2007 Poker Ambitions/Resolutions

Was reading Dom's blog and he has listed some of his ambitions for the new year... i figure it'd be a good idea to set myself a few targets for 2007. And maybe make a few rules/resolutions for the new year.

    Suggestions for targets and goals?

One resolution of mine is to not enter a tourney if im tired... sounds simple enough but i've done this at least 3 times in the last two months and feel as if i have to win the thing by midnight!

yeah a lot of the 2+2 guys play 50k a month, dont think it would be possible to have a life as well though.

    lol,what are implying?

seriously though,i try to play 6 tables so 500hand/hour,thats only 25 hours a week

i think i should really be trying to play more hours than that a week but i don't want to be over-ambitious

    at what level?

When you play 6 tables at a time, it must be ABC poker, I dont mulitable, but its something I want to try in the new year.

Moving most of my bankroll to stars this year and want to make some sort of impression there, also I've tickets for 3 major events in Jan/Feb and would like to cash in one of the them well, ie final table.

Also, want to develope my cash game, I think this is the only way to make good money online consistant, but more about that later and finally to learn to mult-table tourneys and than cash.

DIT point about not playing when tired is also justified on my case too.

I'm going to try and play 200 hours, about 40k hands, in the next 40 days, and win enough to go travelling until the WSOP or so when I will play my 40,001st hand of the year.

To hopefully be playing 1/2 by the end of the year.

i play mainly 10/20,as well as some dabbling in 20/40 and 25/50,though i'm really only properly bankrolled for 10/20.
i suppose it is mainly ABC poker, although ABC poker at these stakes is much more agressive than normal ABC poker.i actually play better when i've more tables going since i'm less tempted to overthink things/second guess myself

to stop getting knocked out of tournaments when in the BB or by the BB, if i can achieve this in the new year i will win 85% of the tournaments i play:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 402 ✭✭Sparky1808

To be playing $3/$6nl - $5/$10nl as well as play a lot more $100+ buy-in multi-table tournaments by the end of the year and not to cash out like i've done a lot of in the past.

If I wasn't to have cashed out in the past previously, i'd have a bankroll for $25/$50nl by now. :(

I also intend to play in quite a lot of GJP events in the Boyne Valley as well as a lot more live tournaments in Southern Ireland :)

hope to have the br for, and comfortably be beating 1/2 in the next month or two. I'd be happy enough if I was playing 3/6 by this time next year.
I plan on playing a bigish tounry every month through my gjp rb, so I hope to cash in a few of those too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,187 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

To be beating 50/1 and building a BR for 1/2

Also check out the live scene.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,163 ✭✭✭Slash/ED

Start properly managing my winnings instead of squandering them and having nothing to show for it would be the main thing.

Yeah that makes sense, I dont like to play more than two tables at a time.

I want to be rolled for 50/100 by end of year.

I think Robins point is a good one. Over the last 4 months since I moved back to Tribeca I have played just 12k hands at 3/6 although it is by far my most profitable game with a BB/100 of 18.2. All those hands were when I spotted idiots playing, and I never multi tabled so the BB/100 is probably higher than it would be if I played regularly. If I can play 20k hands a month I'll be delighted. My aim is to play 20k hands of 3/6 or 5/10 per month maintaining a BB/100 of at least 10 and to stop spending so much wasted time in the MTTs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

I want to start playing live cash games much more.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,897 ✭✭✭BigDragon

Well, as everyone else is doing it........

Build a BR 4/6 tabling SNG's on Stars and cash on FTP.
Keep playing MTTs on Tribeca till i see what Playtech do (hmmmmmmm)
Get a decent finish in a decent buy-in live game
But the No1 has to be....keep learning and applying what I learn.

I have a serious desire to qualify for the WSOP main event because I don't know if I will be able to justify going otherwise.
The main reason for posting is actually for Dom seeing as he inspired this thread. Dom you may want to fix this part of your 2006 review:

"I would give myself a B for cash games, but only a D for cash games"

While I might agree with it I doubt it's what you actually meant to say.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

Don't post when you are drunk Brian, you are too pernickity. I meant to fix that but couldn't be arsed. Laziness is something I doubt I will fix this year.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

Turn over a new leaf. Go fix it now. Probably involves about 3 clicks of the mouse + typing the word tournament. I made my name posting on boards drunk until Des came along.

I hope you are happy, you made me do stuff.

    :) don't it feel good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

I'm just hoping to be able to maintain my ROI in sit n goes whe i start four tabling with a new monitor, hopefully get bankrolled for £20 sit and goes then onwards and upwards.

I'm also gonna put a few quid aside to play qualifiers for the irish open, I really want to play a big buy in event like this during the year.

Finally going to try and make the drogheda monthly game a regular one for myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭BobSloane

I'd like to be playing the $1/$2 online cash games in a few months and if I make it that far I'd be happy to play that level for the rest of the year.

Also a resolution not to cash out anything until Easter to allow my bankroll to blossom. Big resolution to move down levels if the bankroll dictates. One of my worst leaks I think in the past playing STTs.

And I've got to try a few live games in proper cardrooms. Learn me some etiquette.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,400 ✭✭✭TacT

get bankrolled for 1/2 in the next couple of months

Trying to build a bankroll of 40 buyins @ $50 STT on Tribeca. Previously tried with smaller bankrolls but didnt feel comfortable so dropped back to $20 to build a bigger bankroll. I hope buy this time next year to be making either a nice second wage from playing STT's or possibly even doing it full time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭aodea

cash in 50 live tournis big ones small ones i dont mind just want to take every game serious this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,438 ✭✭✭jbravado

Quit playing drunk...show a bit more discipline when clearly tilting-ie consider leaving the game if I cant do so.Stop dumping money at house games after a losing session.

Show more respect to the dealers and not be a cnut when losing.

Try and qualify for the Irish Open.

Move up levels online-hopefully be playing 3-6 by 2008.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

To stop limping in cash games, also to stop leaking money from the sb. Might even try a bit of BR management and I hope to finish the 2 HOH books by the end of the year. A winning trip to Vegas would be good aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

To win at least 100k this year online while travelling around the world.

I really want to go to Vegas and I think this will be my last chance to do so for a number of years. I've been playing absolute rubbish poker over the last few months and I haven't played at all since November. I'm going to continue on this break until February and then my target is to win between $10-$15K between Feb-Jun so that I can go to Vegas in July.

I need to play 400 $30 SNGs a month with a 40% ITM rate in order to do this, entirely possible if I'm playing at the level I'm capable of. My biggest problem lately has been a lack of focus and goal, so that shouldn't be a problem once I get back into it in February. I'll probably play a fair amount of
.25/.50 NLH as well so that should top my winnings too.

Been suuuuch a mixed year that I dont know what I want to do better in the coming months. Part of me says "all of it" but thats just cos I've run bad in the last 6 weeks.

I guess my ambitions would be:
    1. Win a major 500+ buying tournie. I've come close a few times so I know I can, but I need the opportunity and the focus.

    2. "get" cash games. I still dont to be honest.

    3. Play more. This year I played scarily little when you consider how much time I spend around poker. To give myself a chance of winning I need to be in the game.

    DeV.

I've given up cashing out from online poker. In the past its been stifling any progression to higher stakes. Also, now I'm keeping my live bankroll physically separate from real world money, not just a separate on paper for the same reason.

I'll probably cash out when I've amassed about 20K euro at which point I'll buy an M3 (possibly, maybe an old NSX if I'm feeling impractical, I'm open to suggestions).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭sikes

to stop playing all but 1 online sat a week from next week until mid march so i get my final year project done.

other than that, qualify for the wsop would be great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,666 ✭✭✭Imposter

Online I want to get bankrolled for 1/2 again in the very near future and be playing at least 2/4 by the end of the year.

Live I want to get my bankroll up to be able to play 10/20 limit with a proper bankroll and allow occasional shots at the 15/30 game. It would be nice if I could take some shots at the 5/10 NL game if it pops up too as the play is awful (like all the games here :) )

Like Bohsman i'd like to finish HOH 1 and 2 as well as the other truckload of poker books i've bought and are gathering dust at the moment.

I was thinking about this topic this morning, so here goes (no specific order):

    a) Qualify for the 2007 Irish Open.

    b) Qualify for the 2007 WSOP Main Event.

    c) Play more & bigger live tournaments. eg the Fitz EOM game and the Sporting Emporium monthly game.

    d) Play more live cash games, especially Omaha. This does not mean stumbling into the Fitz or SE after a night on the tiles, ready to blow €200 on a nut flush draw. I’m talking about getting into the Fitz sober about 10pm on a Friday or Saturday, sitting down at a €50 omaha cash table with a good stack (€200+) and seeing if my online Omaha skills can translate.

    e) Win more money. Well, duh!!!

    Lol. v funny!

    Mine would be:

    1. Stop tilting both live and online
    2. Don't play when I'm groggy or tired
    3. Get fit again. Start going to the gym two days a week, squash once a week and soccer one other night

to make the transition to a tournament player.
Give up playing online(just can't give it the same level of concentration as playing live), except for irish open and wsop qualifiers.

    Qualify for the Irish open
    Qualify for wsop main event
Spend 3 months in the states playing poker(cash games mainly)

Double my "weekend" cash game turnover 4 out of 5 times its around €500 - €700 each weekend.
Maintain my ability to read people(something i can't do online)

To get a full house on Tellybingo and get my photo taken with Shirley Temple Bar.
To make enough money playing poker so that I may contiue to be able to play poker and in so doing creating opportunities to create poker winnings and thus more tournys.

To gain the love and respect of my fellow poker players so that together we can form a band of brothers and start an air hockey league in Stillorgan bowl..

To re-enter the Lelnster Squash scene and hope the ol cartlidge hold out. To contiune playing the type of football that roy of the rovers can only dream about (and hope the old cartlidge holds out)

To finally own a hotel on Allesbury road, avoid jail and collect 200 Euros as I go forward breaking the bank...(with my new collectors edition of Monolopy, now isn't Santa the clever one)

To regain the enjoyment of poker I had when I started playing Hold Em in 2002.
To see an Irish player win the WSOP main event again.
To maintain my high skill levels. :D
