I am determined this year to join a team sport, anything considered, does anyone have any suggestions, I live in the Clontarf area and have a car.

Also, does anyone know where I can use a swimming pool without joining a gym – I’m not the gym type. I’m also interested in kick boxing or aerobics classes. As you can see I’m trying to prise myself away from the TV a couple of nights a week.

    Thanks for your suggestions

If your in Clontarf you can swim in the CRC. They have adult only hours, lane swimming ect. Failing that theres westwood. I think you can use the pool exclusively without having the use the gym.

Theres also Clontarf Rugby club on castle avenue, if your into that sort of thing. On thursday night a local soccer team have a kick about near the wooden bridge on the seafront, you could approach them too...

EDIT: Sorry I thought you where a guy! There are some womens aerobic classes in westwood, spinning classes also. It would also be a great place to learn about team sports in the area.

BTW The CRC has women only hours too.

OK if its a team sport you want and you are of the female persuasion you could do much worse than tag rugby which will be kicking off in march april ... played it once or twice last year and it is really great fun, its a mixed gender sport ... team of 7 needs to have a minimum of 3 girls on the pitch at one time.

Its mostly a southside thing but Clontarf Rugby Club may run a team or two and failing that tagrugby.ie will be launching a find a player, find a team section to their web site soon. In the meanwhile it is quite a tiring sport so get yourself fit.

And between you and me I know where you are coming from on the team sport thing ... its a million times better than the swim, gym on your own thing. Good luck and sure I may get back to you cos I'm thinking of getting a few mates to set up a team on the Northside ... I'm in Beaumount

Last time I used CRC the water wasn't very clean, although it was warm (31 degrees). But the hot water ran out in the showers. Its a 17.5m pool.

There is another pool nearby - St. Pauls - at the top of Sybil Hill Road, near the junction with the Howth Road. Not as warm (usual 26-28 degrees), but 25m. They also do adult only hours and laneswims.

Great, I'll look up the tag site, thanks for the suggestion, meanwhile I'll be swimming in St.Pauls which I've decided to walk to/from. Would you PM me when you're looking to recruit your team.
Thanks everyone & happy new year!
