You can get alot better car than them for less than that price. I never had any of them cars so im not going to comment. €500 is alot of bucks, personnally i'd go for an off roader like a monster truck or a statium truck. but if you really want an on roader get a traxxas nitro 4tec 3.3, 1050HP to the tonne!

I bought my revo from modelsport.co.uk and they are brilliant to deal with. they have a lot of stuff on there too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭Plug

Or also you could try towerhobbies, good to deal with aswel;)

    500? very nice;)
Stay clear of boystoys they are possibly the biggest rip off for models!
Carson arnt very popular but they are good an you can get sapres handy and not have to import them.
The HPI RS4 3 EVO [one form boystoys] is a very good car and can be bought form other places for cheaper I would think :)

    Thanks for the replys guys.

Plug I found the Green Hobby & Model site but they only seem to sell Carson models or is that just what they list on the site, is there any other places to pick one up in Ireland?

I'd like to pick one up this week if at all possible.

    Thanks again

Carson are popular and good value. They would be a high spec at a medium price. The engine has a really good reputation. The spare and upgrade parts are available and reasonable price.

I was in Green Hobby today and at five o'clock there was only one CR4 spec Carson car left.
In onroad they've quantities of Carson 2WD CR series, but only one CR4-4WD.
(If you asked they might upgrade a CR-2 series to CR-4 for you on the spot, or you could get the option parts and add them yourself)

The special deal 1/8th Carson Raptor monster trucks sold out for another week within 48 hours of arrival. (arrived xmas eve - gone today)

Patrick (the Green Hobby & Model shop manager) is taking orders & deposits and selling Raptors and CR4 in advance of delivery. He still has Stormracers.

You should take a look at the new Carson Twistracer which I put on their website a week ago. It has both on-road and offroad capability, the same engine inside, and is built on the already proven Stormracer 2 chassis.

I got the Carson 1/16th Mr Fu offroad truggy for my son on xmas eve. Electric. Not as hot as the LST Mini T, but it cost a hundred euros less and is very hot. the batteries are still new and not yet run in, so it should get a little hotter in the next week.

How about Carson at 200 euros less than a similar size HPI with a similar size engine?

Not my place to quote prices.
You would have to speak with Patrick about specifics.
His tel number is on the website.

Does that include 100% RTR? Irish1 you might be ontio something here:D

I'm talking about CARSON cars only here .....

At Green Hobby the Carson nitro cars are sold in a lot of different combinations and generally the customer chooses whichever combination they themselves prefer.

All the Raptors and Twistracers were RTR all in one box type deals.

The Stormracers and Rally CR2s and CR4s would have been mainly (but not all) RTR .

Some of the Stormracers and Rally CR2s and CR4s were sold as discounted deal with 90% built chassis, car body of choice, radio - in their individual boxes to people who want the better JR radio that comes in those packages. Those customers fit the radio themselves.

Some customers choose prepainted body - other customers ask for a clear body with paint included. I was looking at Shelby Mustang and Porsche Carrera on xmas eve and both were clear bodies. (I ended up getting a Mr Fu truggy instead) I think most of the muscle car bodies are clear, and the WRC series mostly prepainted with those cool sponsor decals.

I was on about do you put everything in the package under the one price? Including fuel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,626 ✭✭✭✭vectra

    That Carson Raptor looks neat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Thanks for the info coolwings, if you were to buy a Carson Car tomorrow which one would you go for?

Also can you give me a rough idea of price for that car, I don't mind buying a 90% model, but its just the Green Hoby site doesn't have any prices on it, so I have no idea what kind of money I would need in my pocket tomorrow if I want to come home with a full kit.

    Thanks again

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,455 Mod ✭✭✭✭coolwings

Plug: Yeah - the price includes the lot, fuel, glowstart & all...

Vectra: I think the Raptor is cool too, I got to start one the other day, it has a nice deep rumbling sound from the tuned pipe. But I have my Specter so I won't be getting a Raptor anytime soon, unless one of you lot wants to buy it and help me move up :-)

Irish1: I maintain the Green hobby website (about three weeks behind at the moment ! ) and I got myself for a Specter about 4 or 5 months ago. It is incredibly fast over grass.
There's a thread about it on boards SPECTER THREAD.
Still trying to get a decent video of it but it's hard to drive and film at the same time and I have limited spare time to get out with it.

On the prices - they change more often than you would think. Right now they are down a bit. Esp the 1/8th sizes. The varying prices (on over 2000 items) is one of the reasons why they aren't on the website. I wouldn't have the time and the prices won't pay for a full time programmer. So it is a window not an online shop.
You call and if there is a good deal going they will tell you, but sometimes it's in what you want, and sometimes it's in something else. Patrick is the man to talk to. I saw a guy buy two Raptors xmas eve and he got the second one for a price that would make your mouth water.
Also - right now we are planning January sale which will change prices yet again. As usual the regular customers will hoover up the best bargains within the first 24 hours. They are already asking us what will be in the sale so they can call before it goes on the web.

    ** EDIT **
** I just read Coolwings post and saw it comes with nitro ets, Just ask how much nitro and get some more if needs be **

I would suggest that you Ring Green Hobby & Models first thing tomorow morn before they are sold out and get a deff. price before leaving home. Also. You may need some batteries etc. I am not sure how far "RTR" goes. Sometimes youy get the batteries. sometimes you dont. ( I bought a carson C5 Recently " 1/5 scale Petrol car " and it came complete with batteries for receiver and Handset, So all I had to get was the petrol at my local service station and some 2 stroke oil )

Ask at the same time what nitro they reccomend you use on that model.and for a price.
In fact. Ask for a deal price on everything. You never know. As Coolwings said, They will be having a January sale shortly so maybe they might just be generous to you as it is the season of goodwill and all that. :D

That link isn't working, I'm sure the Specter is really good but I'm more after a on road car like the ones I linked to.

Do you or anyone else have any idea how much the CR-4 Full outfit or CR-2 Full outfit costs, I'm just looking for an idea, I'm not going to hold anyone to any guess they give.

*Edit* Thanks Vectra I'll give them a buzz in the morning so.

On a side note does anyone know of tracks or clubs etc in Leinster the nearer to Carlow the better.

Thanks for all the speedy reply's

I would estimate at around €450 ... Could be wrong but thats just a guess.;)

    As for Clubs..?
They are far and few between
I run one down here in Cork
    There is one in Navan
There is an offroad one in Dublin.

Personally, I think you should consider an offroader of some sort.
I know the excitement of speed and lovely bodyshells is very appealing.
    BUT
The appeal effect wears off when you find you have no place proper to run it.
    On the other hand.

Buy a Monster Truck and go find a field with some humps and hollows... Find a nice bank of grass on the edge of a field and have a bit oh hillclimbing fun.
Find a Building site and you have an instant track ( when nobody is about) :D

Have a good long think about it before you part with your cash. ;)

Thanks for the info Vectra, I'm sure an off road model would be more senisble but I normally don't do sensible when it comes to hobbies e.g. I'm currently watching Charlton and Fulham on a 200" screen.

But mostly because I'm a rally fan and I would much more enjoy using an on road model. There is a large car-park near me its about half an acre in size and is empty most of the time.

Anyone know anything about ORCA Ireland?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,455 Mod ✭✭✭✭coolwings

    They race in Clontarf, Dublin.
Sharing the St Annes Park track with another club.

You should get in touch with the Carlow model car racing group. I will see if I can remember a contact.

Haven't got permission to spread it around, but if you call me at Green Hobby tomorrow morning I could give it to you, or pass your name to him. :D

Vectra's right, im in Kilkenny, just a 25 minute drive each way, thats nothing. We could meet up sometime and show you how to get the thing up and running, no problem. I race with another lad down here and more to come.
    GET AN OFF ROADER!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Cheers plug I appreciate the offer and I'll give it some thought before I splash the cash but TBH I will probably go with an on roader its just of these things I always wanted to buy as a teenager but could never afford to splash the cash on (probably still can't :D).

High speed with sideways action is worth a lot more to me than jumps etc. Just a personal thing I guess.

    So you like drifting then?........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Well actually its funny you should say that because my idea of drifting is coming up to a 2 or 3 right or left turn in a rally car and taking it sideways. However when you say drifting now people think of the drifting series on a track which is an impressive skill but tbh I prefer to see a rally car come up to a bed at 120mph and then drop to 50 or 60 and take a bed and get back to top speed again.

I've been lucky enough to sit in a WRC Subaru and Ford Escort during testing and thats what I like to re-create, unfortunately the nearest I will get to it is with a 1/10th model seeing as the real thing costs about 400,000 to buy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,149 ✭✭✭BFassassin

Well have you got a good amount of tarmac/concrete to run it on. If not off-road is your only option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Maybe I might just have to get one of each then :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

For what you're willing to spend mate, you will get an off road car/truck that will go just as fast as an on roader. I have one on roader and three off roaders and the speeds aren't that different, 'cept for my menace21 truck. It does around 70mph. The only possible difference you will find is handling, and even then there's not a huge difference. Here's a video of one of my off roaders doing on-road runs.

Well I purchased both a on road Carson 4WD and a Spector but the on Roader needs to be built and I couldn't get the Spector to start. But I forget the sticker package so I'll up tomorrow and collect that and they might be kind enough to start the spector for me.
