Just on the Argos site now and guess what....it is STILL saying out of stock. I have chosen a load of different shops and no joy :-(

I went into Argos this morning, ILAC and Jervis, and neither had Wii's in and after a protracted phone call the lady who was helping me returned only to say that they didn't even have an estimation for when they could be expected in stock.

Wiffy suggested Smyths would have them, but again there were none. Speaking to one of the staff members she said they had several calls about the same thing - apparently their website is a little borked and says they're in stock but they're not.

Game both on Henry St and the ILAC didn't have any either, nor did HMV Henry St. Gamestop was closed when I was passing.

Hopefully that'll save some of you getting soaked trapsing around town looking this morning.

    @mixie,
Thanx a million for doing that! I HATE when people give out wrong information. Was gonna head to my nearest Argos today which would have been an hours drive only to be diassapointed again...phew!

I rang HMV limerick today (parents gave me vouchers for there for xmas) and the girl on the phone said they wouldn't have them in until Feb. WTF

My parents went in to Gamestop in the crescent shopping centre on xmas eve and they had them in stock (they had already bought the vouchers for HMV), how on earth are HMV dragging their heals so badly

No worries, 2 hours in the rain for that myself which is why i posted :D

I can see why the OP thought it would be in though - the instore check&reserve said the stock should arrive the 25th December. I guess the OP figured it'd be the next business day they'd get stock in, which would be today.

    @Mixie,
When I checked online and rang in to the check and reserve service in a few stores there was no stock listed at all in any of them? Which number did you ring and what stores did you check? Just curious....

I rang tallght argos this morning and they said they had none but there was one in waterford. went to try and reserve it but didn't come up on website.
Hope that helps someone! I couldn't travel to waterford anywho and they wouldn't send them to their other shops when i asked on phone.

I didn't - I went into the Argos stores in the ILAC centre and Jervis street and used the in-store blue checker machines. To be clear, those machines said no stock, but that new stock was expected to arrive Christmas Day (but obviously hadn't - this was confirmed by staff ringing to confirm with *someone*).

    Hope that helps.

Not sure how correct it is but the Smyths site, www.toys.ie says they are in
stock in a number of shops. I only checked the Dublin ones but at least 3 said in stock.

Yeah, I checked there (Smyths, Jervis St) this morning (as it said on the site that there's some) but they (and no other smyths) had any and said it's a mistake on the website.

    Thanks though!

Smyths in Claremorris (Mayo) don't have any either :-(

I checked today too at the same time and did not see any? What gives....

I looked on the Smyths site and it said they were 'in stock' in Blanchardstown, and seeing as I work in Blanch, I thought 'great - I'll ring and reserve ' etc. But they wouldn't pick up the phone.

So I had to beg my boss to give me a half hour off work and I drove there - big mistake - the Blanch shopping centre is a no-go area - total mayhem. Couldn't even get to park, and half hour was up so I had to come back to work.

Rang Smyths again when I got back and of course this time I got through. They said ' yeah it says 'in stock' on our website but that's actually only for people with pre-orders, and we won't be taking any more orders'

You'd think they could have stated that on the bloody site - jeesh.

Moral of the story - don't trust Smyths website...

I booked one in argos earlier...

I went into the store... I checked the stock, it said it was out of stock. (it had also said out of stock on the website)

It said to press enter to check the next delivery... it said the 27th... so I went up to the counter and after a little haggling I got it booked... delivery isn't till after closing though... I'll have to wait till tomorrow

I went into smyth's early this morning as their website said it was 'In Stock', but unfortunately it wasn't. I could preorder one for €25, but I didn't bother.

I also tried Argos as I had been reading that they were getting stock in. Again, they didn't have any. However when I was checking their instore check system the display said that they were getting 2 in on friday and to talk to cashier, so I did and I was able to reserve one. I will have until tuesday to collect it. I'm very happy but will only believe it when I see it!

I'm not too sure if they are only getting 2 in or if there were only 2 left to reserve.

galway argos have em in stock...

Well I work in Argos, and my store actually got 24 in. I had one pre-reserved (I TOLD YOU ALL TO DO THIS - Stores can reserve from what's coming in on deliveries, the website can't). By the time they were on shelf, 18 of those had been pre-reserved. The other 6 were snapped up within a few minutes.

lol now there sold out in Galway

I had done for Jervis, it made no difference since there was no stock in store.

    That or they lied.

Appreciate the headsup though, shame they didn't get them in really or I'd be here thanking you instead... or off playing Zelda... definitely one or the other though :D

I also work in an argos. Most of the staff that wanted one managed to reserve them on an incoming delivery.

Just to clear up an issue, if you 'reserved' one to be collected, it won't show up on the blue stock checker. The blue thing is for prospective customers, who want to buy an item on the spot. Avoids queueing for the till only to be told someone else has it reserved. If you did reserve it, you would have been given a reservation number. till person types that in and you pay for your wii (which no other customers know about) and go home a happy camper.

I suspect your reservation was subsequently cancelled after 2 days (an automatic thing) and someone else is now a happy camper with the wii that was originally reserved for you, but due to someone not telling you properly about how reservations worked you missed out.

Hard luck, hope you get one sorted soon...you won't be disappointed!

so you did get wii's in today then?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

I have all the numbers of the stores which I called but nobody answered. I looked online on most of the stores and it said none in stock. I also rang the reservation number and again none in stock. I'm looking to get one down the country in Atlone, Longford or Castlebar and can't understand why they have not even one at at least one of these stores?

Just picked up a wii in Jervis St Argos about 20 mins ago. I'm not sure how many are left but get your skates on if you want one.

When I called the store, the website showed 'out of stock' so don't trust it.

Argos Jervis St Phone number: 8781160
    Wii catalogue number: 568/3257

    Good luck :D

Just to confirm, is the Argos site untrustworthy? Am I better off entering the code into the stock checker in the store(Galway) itself?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭The Roach

Finally got through, only to be told they've none in stock. :(

grrrrr - after Smyths in Blanch told me yesterday that they had none, my friend tells me she was down there and overheard a woman saying to the girl behind the counter 'I know you have Wii consoles - you probably have them behind the counter for people' and the sales attendant said ' No, I swear, if we had them, I would give you one'.

Anyway, my friend tells me that just after the woman left the store, a guy who had been hanging round by the games shelves came over and said 'jeez talk about bad timing' and the girl said something like ' yeah I know, I can't hand it to you over the counter now because she'll see, you'll have to wait'

So it looks like you need to know someone working there now in order to get one... makes me mad ..

    maybe he had it reserved

I was thinking that myself - but if he had it reserved, she could have handed it out over the counter no problem, and she wouldn't be asking him to wait a while.

Yeah, but she had to tell the lady that there were none there in order to get her to leave them alone, so wanted to wait till she was gone before giving out the reserved one!

Just on the Argos website there, and I've reserved a wii for myself in the Iilac centre Argos and one for my mate in Stephens Green... theres no fine print on the mail they sent or on the site saying that the reservation wont be completely definite so i guess i'm gettin one tomorrow!!! YAY!

So, to recap, Argos has some. if that helps people!
