Basically after christmas im going on the V-diet,im going to give it my best for 28 days, basically for this diet i will need a far amount of supplements to get the best results, obviously protein is in there so that isnt an issue but there are other things such as flax and fish oil because i wont be eatting any solid foods. So i was wondering if anyone here can recommend a good health shop that do good prices on say ZMA,flax oil, fish oil and carb drinks etc.

    http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=05-009-diet
here is the diet plan so if anyone here(dragan, jon, gem im lookin at you here)can recommend other alternatives for what is listed then that would be great.

    thanks again.Peace

Flax oil you can get from any health food store, it generally cost about €10 per bottle for 200-300ml. Fish oil capsules you can generally buy relatively cheap in bulk too, I get mine for about €8 for two month's worth. The Biotest ZMA is actually one of the cheapest ones you can buy (even with the shipping costs), it works out at about €11 per tub. Surge and Grow! are pretty distinct but something like RAM from Nutrition X is quite simialr in its carb profile to Grow! afaik. You may need to do a homemade job for the Surge equivalent- buy micellar casein (from myprotein.co.uk for e.g.) and mix with whey to the desired ratios, or otherwise look into how much it would cost to just order from Biotest directly.

Fibre caprules and Guar Gum again you can get in any health food shop (drink plenty of water with the fibre tablets, they will swell a lot!!) and for your sanity and to supress your appetite to manageable levels the fat-burner is quite necessary too. If you've never taken one before I'd recommend trying it for a week before starting the V-Diet, they can take some getting used to (you may get the shakes, get very jittery, increased or decreased concetration, irritability, mild palpitations... :o ). HotRox from Biotest won't get past customs here but you can get some reasonably decent ones in Irish stores.

    Hope that's a help.

Just to add that you can get Hot Rox from the shop (I'm sure some hepful person can supply the name) on Capel St if you want.

Of course an equally helpful person might suggest an alternative!

I've pm'd you this info as requested but I'm going to stick this up here too incase anyone else feels a burning desire to try this diet tobeat the post-Christmas bulge!! But be warned, if you do, it's hard!! we're talking no solid food for 6 days a week and even then it's only one solid meal on day 7. Harsh, but it works, and it's only a short-term dieting strategy. I've never actually done this diet so I'm just going on what I know from the website. But both Dragan and I did the Get Shredded Diet which is similar but different to the V-diet so check our diaries to see what supplements we took and when for more info. The V-diet is 28 days, the GSD is usually double that, and personally I'm a firm believer in the thermogenic properties of wholefoods for nutrition and weight loss.

So you have 5 shakes a day right? The most important times for shakes are first thing in the morning and last thing at night. First thing in the morning it'll give you the protein to set you up for the day and at night it'll give you the necessary protein to stave off overnight catabolism. The mixture of whey (fast release protein) and casein (slow release protein) will ensure that your body keeps getting protein between shake times. then the other three will be evenly spaced throughout the day (mid-morning, early afternoon and dinner time.

The one time you'll want to take the carb heavy shake (i.e. the RAM shake - whey and simple carbs) is immediately post workout when your body needs a quick supply of simple carbohydrates and nice easily digestable whey protein. Taking flax oil and fish oils with your shakes is best- you don't want to take oil supplements on an empty tummy- the fats will be used for storage and not for energy.

Take the fibre capsules between meals when you need to fill up a bit.

A decent multi-vit like animal stack or even the Mulitbionta Active Multi-vitamin whould be taken first thing in the morning on an empty tummy too (although you'll want to check the recommendations on the label for that). Taking BCAAs would be hugely beneficial too- these are the Branched Chain Amino Acids (leucine, valine and isoleucine) which will help to preserve muscle mass on such a calorie deficit- take them again on an empty tummy between shakes and straight after a workout (I get my BCAAs from bodybuilding.com, it's about €20 for a month's supply). You can also get full profile amino acid supplements from ProLab and TwinLab which have all 20 amino acids in them but they tend to be carb and calorie heavy and may interfere with your daily calorie allowance. I took the ProLab aa supplements - 6 hyoooge horse-tablets per serving twice a day mid-morning and mid-afternoon along with a serving of BCAAs straight after my workout.

ZMA will help keep your testosterone levels up and you take these just before bed. Take them on an empty tummy then take your pre-bed shake about 30-60 minutes afterwards.

You can have 100g of carbs a day right? Well carbs will be most needed first thing in the morning and straight after a workout- that's where the post-workout carb shake comes into it.

    Hope that's a help.
