Television coverage is just about certain to take place.

I've been talking to a student film-maker and he's thinking of doing a guerilla documentary....

I need about six players to follow through the tournament that will be willing to do interviews before during and after (bad beat stories not allowed)....

My thinking is this, we get one student from each of the major colleges around the country.

    Any volunteers?

Hopefully one (or more) of the players involved will make it to the final table.

Roy 'The Boy' Brindley has offered his services to do the final table commentary.

Well I think Joe should get UCD's place, he would be good on camera although it would be 1 long interview!

I have no issues being DCU representative or whatever the word is. I will be playing for good few hours because naturally I will fold everything bar aces...

Well considering DIT's most attractive poker playing student(AOD) is unable to attend the event I am happy to represent DIT poker on da telly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,502 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

You should really find an excuse to get me on camera. I'm so good it hurts. Plus, I'm far more articulate, witty and charming than any of the other people regularly posting on this topic. Thats right suckers - like it or lump it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

    Lloyd you crack me up.

Lloyd and charming are not two words which I would associate with one another.
Also "Thats right suckers" how old are you Lloyd, seriously now.... been watching too much WWF?

    :D

the weird thing is i left a house party about an hour ago, and lloyd was there singing away at the top of his voice.... other words i would not associate with lloyd right now are sober and coherent. :p

    Lloyd/Doc Farrell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

Lol I'm sure Doc Farrell wouldn't be seen dead playing a student poker event where as Lloyd is trying to pass himself off as a student in order to play a student event.

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

    Cheers rob

Oh your UCD, I always thought you were DIT. Well in light of the new information I now nominate Joe for UCD's place ;)

Phantom: I didn't attend the Jackpot tonight as I was doing a project. If you ever make it to 4th year you will know what's it like :)

No criteria.....I'll be leaving that decision to Mac (the guy who is hopefully doing the documentary).....

I will be suggesting Fobster though as he is the first boardster to register....lets go peops start registering - times a wastin'....The more people we get registered now the more we will get in the end.

I've been under a bit of pressure because a lot of the players that have pre-registered have concerns over opening an online account. If the opportunity arises can you all tell people that I am not some chancer trying to screw them out of money....

    Registration closes on Jan 25th.

    Must go through this link
    http://www.pacificpoker.com/?sr=967402
    or www.pokerireland.ie

    Happy Christmas.

Hey stephen i was just wondering if it might be a good idea to maybe have someone fromm 888.com there on the day who can accept cash and set up peoples account there on the day. that way we can basically pay in cash and 888 get their new accounts and we get the $20 bonus!! Everyone wins...Its not a problem for me to register online but i would be handier to pay in cash and also i have a feeling the online registration may affect numbers.

BTW great work in securing the sponsor! This is gonna be a great tournament!!

Same here, if this is the only method of payment for the tourney I can see maybe 50 turning up.
I know you put in a lot of hard work in for this Stephen and I sure every student that plays will be thankful for your efforts but I know loads that wont play this if it means setting up an online a/c with pacific poker.
Most students that have played an organised event with a similar set up to this are used to registering a half an hour before and handing over cash. Alot will be put off by what seems to be extra hassle.

    I agree with the above.

If only I was still in DIT I could be on telly... Wait I still carry the logo which could mean something and considering Jeff sadly cant attend I wouldnt mind representing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

Yeah I can think of several people who want to play but have some aversion to online stuff. Is there a way to register if you already have an account?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

Registered but agree with the above posters, there should be an alternative way of registering.

Great job organising the sponsors and the event though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,646 ✭✭✭cooker3

I have just registered, stupid that username has to be between 4-8 characters.

Anyway agree with above. It would make life a lot easier if you could register on the day. I like Karl's idea of having representative from pacific/888 helping out.It makes sense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

In all fairness they are adding money. It also makes it a lot easier for the organisers to not have to handle all the cash on the day.

Anyone that already has a pacific account get onto support or email Stephen you can still register.

First to register...says I'm still ineligible, boo-urns! Damn bureaucracy!

Do you have to 888 signup through your website carfax? What if we already have an account? Will we get this signup bonus if we use the instructions on your webpage?

Lastly, if we used neteller to deposit $92 and paid for registration could we then instantly withdraw the $20 left over without any neteller/888 fees?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

I just deposited the 72 for the tourney reg. Do I have to throw in another twenty to have resting in my account until the tournament?

Result! And about time too, with a $5 bonus to boot for all the hassle.

Now where is the 5c/10c omaha?

Edit: played 5c/10c nlhe and two sets busted by flushes, and KK cracked...$0.02 left in account :p

Another excellent idea Carl and its one that we are planning on carrying out.....However, it is not confirmed, so at this stage all I can do is to ask all players to register online.....And if we are taking cash on the day player's will still have to open their accounts beforehand and will probably have to turn up before 10 o'clock on the 27th......All of these are still if's though.

I can't see why players wouldn't want to register online and the vast majority of responses have been really positive.

Remember we haven't even started to advertise this and we had just under 300 people pre-registering (and counting).....We're planning radio ads, newspaper etc....and we'll have a section up on the www.pokerireland.ie site shortly with all of the different ways that players will be able to register, Neteller being the most obvious one for someone that doesn't have a credit card.

I know that registrations on Pacific are only at 7/8 but hopefully we see a sharp rise in this after Christmas....I think that the extra bit of hassle involved in registering is made up for by the quality of the tournament on offer ( I know I'm patting myself on the back there but its Christmas).

Thanks for all the support again guys.....Anybody been talking to Mac???

This may all be true but I can only offer the best tournament that I am capable of running. The fact that players are used to doing something one way should not mean that they will not do it another although what you say is true....Some people will be turned off from playing because of it.

The only thing I can do is to tell as many people as I can about it, tell them the terms & conditions of registration and take it from there.

The actual costs behind this are really high and if the price the players pay for such an event is that they have to take five minutes to open an online account then I don't think its too much to ask and Pacific deserve to get more players because of the fact that they are backing the event.

That sounds excellant, with all the advertising.
Hopefully people will not be put off. I think people were just making the point that some people might be though. Ultimately all of us reading this be playing in it so it's not us that need to be converted, it's the people who are uncertain that need to be converted.
