The Irish Times Chequered Flag Xmas Crossword should be out this saturday.

can any people trying it please help me on this thread.

My head gets seriously wrecked by this crossword every year.

That being said, you won't find a better crossword anywhere (except for the year they screwed up the grid).

    Thanks

    35 - Sam
    90 - Cottagers

76 could be BENETTON is the first T definite?

/Edit Is the clue for 11 typed correctly?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 mepei

    Thanks Hagar.

Yes 11 across is Erins I think - as in Erin's Own

I was thinking 90 might be Centipeds?

Benetton sounds good but that would mean that 82 across is incorrect.
The clue is 82 across: 0
I thought it was LOST but if Benetton was right it would be
    L--E

ah yes Lose would fit for 82 across.

    Erins sounds good.
Cottagers is also a nickname for Fulham FC who play at Craven Cottage in London.

Can anyone explain why 54 down is O'Gara??

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 mepei

I'm afraid I don't have the crossword clue anymore but I think it was something to do with a Munster rugby player and I think O'Gara was even there in an anagram.

There is a dvd out for the Munster heineken cup 2006 campaign with "The Brave and the Faithful" in the title, and O'Gara is the only Munster player that fits the clue .

Tears in Turin by the midfielder was the one that I the most difficulty with, I was thinking tears as in "cuts", but it eventually clicked.

Edit: Is it just me or was this year's crossword easier than previous years? I expected to get some mileage out of it but I finished it on Christmas Eve.

I'm pretty happy with my answers to the rest of them, so I can do a swap of info!! This is the first year i've sat down and tried this crossword - great way to finish of the Christmas mince pies...
