Zelda TP : Not rocking my world

I know this going to be controversial but

I'm not enjoying Zelda as much as I'd hoped I would :(

Graphically its a bit of a murkey mess to me and this isnt a criticism over not being HD, but it's just that it all looks a bit washed out and murkey - like a lot of the N64 titles ended up (windwaker looks better IMO and has better facial reactions too), I really think they should start to add voices to NPC's at this stage, and I just dont find it that much 'fun'.

I have relished practically every zelda game and tolerated even not so great ones like the Philips CDi titles, but this one just isnt doing it for me.

Story wise only about 9 hours in and its only just about holding my interest, mainly i think its just hope it gets better.

As for magical wonderful lanscapes and the general fantasy world, again it's just all a bit bland for me. Again WW did it better for me, and games like Kameo have made vibrant wonderful lands so much better. Hell even the Minish Cup seemed to have a more interesting game world.

I'll wait till I've finished it, but it certainly for me isnt a classic like OOT or Link to the Past was.

I think the battle scheme isnt as tight as WindWaker or Ocarina, the Bow & Arrow / Sling Shot feels great in use, but the process of activating it and then moving is all a bit distracting especially in tense action moment, Z Trigger auto aiming tries to rememdy it but still.

This was the game I bought the Wii for and yet I have more fun with Wii Sports as shallow as it is, than playing this.

Very dissapointed, surely I cant be the only person who's not so keen on this Zelda. :o

As much as G.O.W doesnt rock my world either, I'm getting more fun from Assault Heroes and Viva Pinata.

Feels like the top games this year for the different formats just arent floating my boat  damn

Ah no, for one I think that this iteration is one of the best.

While one part of me thinks that the Wolf parts seems a little tacked on, I still am enjoying the game.

Everthing about this game, to me at least, screams pleasure. While not as good as OOT, I think this is the Finest Zelda title on a post-16 bit machine.

Im find the game play great, graphics are grand for me and i dont even have a HDTV. THe only thing is that the bosses are a bit too easy. Once you figure out the Achilles Heel of it ,it only takes me one go and its destroyed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,180 ✭✭✭1huge1

wow i seriously think this is almost as good as oot and definetely better than ww
im loving it but at the start it wasnt great tbh but once i was out in hyrule field things just got a lot better, i suppose it was the same in oot i hated the deku tree

Nought but the words of a charlatan! The testimony of a bounder and a cad....

I think it's fantastic, different, dark and a new direction like the Minish Cap...

Hmm good review but alas must disagree. At the same point as you - around 10 hours - and I've loved every minute. Full of new ideas and surprises. I actually like the familiarity (it really is very similar to OOT) but refreshingly new as well - horse battles are great fun:)

Somebody said to me that it seems that zelda fans who dont seem to be liking this adventiure much are the ones who really liked Wind Waker.

Not sure if that's true, but going on other discussion groups it seems plausible.

I loved the minish cap 'The Gnome' by the way :) Just this one kind of feels like work rather than fun.

Its a weird feeling on thiws one. Like I have to complete it because I have to, not because I really want to. :o I'll give it a few more hours and see if it grows, it's just I dont see why it should take 10 or more hours before a game becomes enjoyable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,350 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

20+ hours in and loving every minute of it.........360/PS3 games have taken a backseat since getting the Wii.
Around Snowpeak Ruins at the moment, and apart from looking at it through composite for the moment :( , I'd rank it alongside Ocarina, will just have to see how the rest of the game pans out..
Liked Windwaker myself, nowhere near as good as Ocarina though, but enjoyable enough in its own right.
Might have to slow down to enjoy the game more, as all the other launch games were bleh, so I'll probably go off and do a bit of fishing for the next few hours :)

its been loads of fun for me since i first booted it up ive got exams till Wednesday which are taking away from my Zelda time  . I'm gonna play so much Zelda once these dam exams are over!

I have to say I'm loving this game. And I agree with your comment, that people who really liked the wind waker probably like this game less.
I liked the Wind Waker but it just wasn't what I was hoping for.
But this is really everything I hoped it would be.
It's definitely in second place along side Majora's mask for me.
OOT is just hanging on in first place now.

I think swinging the sword takes away from it slightly...but that's just me being lazy.I really like this game.:D

this is my first Zelda Experience and I love it. So much in fact that I look forward to all the previous incarnations being issued on the VC. So much fun being had switching between this and Wii Sports!!!

I've barely turned on my 360 since I got Zelda. (turned on once to try XBLA Assualt Heroes - for about 5 mins).

I adore this game, and it singlehandedly justifies getting the Wii.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Second that. As I said in another thread, I think it starts a bit slow and it might put some people off, but at a certain point it really starts to pick up and grabs you and won't let go. I'm really really enjoying it.

My only complaint with Twilight Princess is that I'm not getting enough time to play it!!! :(

Same here!!!! Tis a shame cos I am glued into it!!

Marvellous game, 26hrs into it at the mo. I think the Twilight ambience is very effective for creating a dark, lonely effect, with the washed out colours and echoey, discordant sound. Very Silent Hill. And the water and sun effects are great, Midna's face is very exprressive I think. Storyline is good too, with one fantastically mark-out moment being the
    return of bad ass Ganondorf!

I really can't see how someone couldn't at least rank this with OoT.

And Oocoo creeps the sh1te out of me!

I bloody love this game. Everything about it. TmB is spot on, in my opinion.

For what it's worth, i didn't like the Wolf bits at first (but this was cos I wanted to wander around with Link), but after a while i really really liked it. I love the "using the wolf's senses" bit to spot hidden things...dark indeed. Looks great and controls perfectly.

I am one of the ones who really didn't like Wind Waker, though. Didn't hate it, but it's cetainly my least favourite Zelda.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 499 ✭✭Gizzle

And also, with regards to the slow starting of TTP, it's only to be expected as the game is at least twice as long as any Zelda before it! I think the slight wait makes it all the more satisfying!;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,527 ✭✭✭Shred

I'd also like to give this a big thumbs up. I wasn't too keen on the wolf parts either but I'm starting to really like them (I'm only about 13/14 hours in so far). I think it looks pretty well (even more so when you remember it is a GC game) and the controls work well and they're very comfortable (I like to lie on the couch with my left arm hanging over the back of my head controlling the nunchuk and using little flicks of the Wiimote where necessary:D).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Yeah true, plus it eases you into the controls really easily I found. :)
And Gizzle that spoilered scene you mentioned was fantastic I thought too! Just saw it last night! Then spent 2 hours fishing...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,999 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

Just gotta say i'm Lovin' this game! Brilliant is the only word. Got me the cube version, wouldn't mind trying it on the wii just to compare the two. The only thing thats disappointing is how easy the bosses are (so for i've just finished the forth dungeon). But still .......... :D

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 18,853 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kimbot

People are so far into this game!! I am still in the first temple taking my time on it so I can enjoy the game!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

that first temple, my god i spent about 4 shagging hours in the thing and it was the smallest thing that i didn't spot.
bomb plant with that big rock

now i'm on the third dungeon and i'm loving it.

at first i was really skeptical on how the controls were going to pan out and now after 10 hours of playing the game i cannot see how any other controller system would work. the wii-mote and nunchuk combination is just so versitile.

Im trying to finish it before Christmas, but Im 18 hours in and only past the 3rd dungeon, so questioning the plausability of this challenge.
It's one helluva big game. After getting a new item I tend to go on two hour hikes to open / blast / hookshot to all those items Ive left behind. That's the problem with being a Zelda veteran - you want to get everyone of those blooming star containers, but you also have the concept of 'time' to deal with. Lousy reality.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

I've only managed to get past the second dungeon so far (had to go to London without my Wii for a week)
The start of the second dungeon is where things really picked up for me (steel boots ftw!), can't wait to get stuck back into it tomorrow...
Definitely my game of the year so far, and well worth getting a Wii for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,350 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Absolutely no doubt about it being Game of the Year for me..
Had more fun with this title so far than any other, the likes of Oblivion, the average Gears of War, BF2142 etc all pale against this title for me...........come to think of it, it wasn't a surprise at all, this game was always destined for greatness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Kanney

I just got it today so I've just got sword and shield for Mindba (whatever the name is). Really enjoying it, good fun.

Well I still haven't been allowed play it all that much!! Hopefully tomorrow and Friday I can get stuck into it!

Turned it on to play a little bit last night. Turned it off 4 hours later. Bloody hell.

Third temple was tricky enough (and very clever). I now
have my sword (nice minigame to get into the sacred grove!), and I've made it into the desert temple.

Love it love it love it.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,885 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I'm really liking it. I think it could be as good as Link to the Past. The game world is massive (far bigger than the world in OoT despite what some reviews say) and there is loads to see and do. Only just at the 4th dungeon because I was lost for ages looking for it bur I was still having fun collecting bugs and killing poes. Practically all the mini games work really well and don't seem tacked on. Controls are gimmicky but they work perfectly which is all that matters. It was slow going at first but after about 5 hours the game just grabs you and you are then hooked. It's also extremely dark for a Zelda game.

Does anyone else crack up laughing when they see the postman coming :)

Oh yes... he's great... but he's lost some of my mail I find... I've talked to characters who have said you must have gotten my letter, when I all I did was wander in and talk to them by chance.

The brave soldiers in the inn were very funny too.

    Daa-daa-daa-daaaaaaah!

    :D

And yeah, the brave soldiers at the inn were hilarious! Especially the one that discovered he was alone :D

loving the game and am so have just completed the second Dungeon. Having a great time playing it. Find it very frustrating when I can see a nice big Treasure chest but can't for the life of me figure out how to get to it. This has happened twice in around the Goron mines and back in Kakiro (sp?) Village.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Generally as you progress through the game you'll get different items that allow you to go back to these things that you couldn't reach before and get them.
Thats part of what makes Zelda and Metroid games so cool, and rewards exploring! :)

Don't forget castlevania in that. It stretched out the 8 hour Portrait of Ruin on the DS to a 16+ hour percentage whoring quest :)

    Just gotta say:
How cool is the mini demolition ball? class
    :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭Stalfos

About 30+ hours into the game myself but i've stopped to look around so many times now so i should be further than snowpeak.
One or two things i feel they should have put in were more mini-games like an archer mini-game. Also i'd like to have more ppl to help out like majora's mask. but a side from that, i am having fun playing the game. Storywise, it's very well done, and i loved the abstract world of twilight and the dark and weird cut scenes like the one after the third dungeon or the one mentioned earlier. I wouldn't put it up there with OOT but it's would be a close second. I did actually like wind waker so that's why it's lost some points with me because the sense of exploration is kinda lost.

Yeah just got it yesterday wonderful piece of equipment. Must admit I thought that dungeon has been the best yet - really original and different. And yeah, water temple - tough but fairer than the one in OOT. Still have nightmares about that.
    And by the way
having just passed Snowpeak, should I be able to deal with those owl statues around everywhere? They are really starting to annoy me, sitting there, big owl heads on them. Please avoid any spoilers in reply if I have yet to get the appropriate item :)

If they have a hole in the middle of them, then you can do something with them later on.

What an end boss, all 4 parts of it, my heart was in my mouth throughout. Still, doing it again with the stuff ive collected since... it'd be a bit easy  Replaying it now.

It took me about 38 hours. Still have a few items to collect. 7 or 8 more heart containers and about the same amount of bugs. only got about 35 poes though. I'll go back and try to get em all.

Finished a few minutes ago. Amazing game. Not as good as OoT of LttP but still a fantastic addition to the franchise. The ending is well worth seeing.

    Lucky man Vyse,
you're about to embark on one of the great games in recent years........defo put alongside Ocarina and Majora's, almost hitting the heights of Link to the Past (remember that one a little too fondly perhaps)

I'm enjoying it now alright. Spent about 5 hours on it last night and will more than likely give it a few tonight:D

i dont know how many hours i have been playing but i think its great.
though the boomerang is annoying to use, as is the lamp being strapped to your belt when you change items wihtout pressing A.
just finished the kariko (i have no clue how to spell it) village bit, after freeing it from twillight
    thought i would hate
the transforming into a wolf bit
but i got used to it pretty quickly.

also Midnas creepy giggle is alot better than Navi.
