Fitness/ Weight Loss Plan Advice

I`m planning on starting an exercise/ diet plan soon to try to lose some weight and I would really appreciate any feedback. I have read through this forum and stickies and hopefully taken the advice and made a plan

Ok so currently I am 26 and 6'6 and 18st 4lbs. I`ve never really followed any sort of rigid plan for very long and up to a few months ago i was about a stone lighter but now I am hoping to drop a couple of stone and end up at about 16 stone which I think would be ok for my weight. i have no great wish to get super fit or super thin, but I want to be relatively fit and slim. I am definitley hoping to lose my gut and look a lot slimmer.

SO here is what I have planned.

For exercise I have decided to start jogging. As I have never really done any exercise I have tried to start slowly and have been following this for about three weeks: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml. I am hoping that within two months I will be running for 30 minutes three times a week. Any feedback on that programme would be recommended.

Now for diet here is what I plan to start doing. Previously I was skipping breakfast in an effort to cut calories but from reading through things today I realise that is not a good idea and so I am going to go back to having one.

For breakfast now I am planning on either having two weetabix with skimmed milk or a smoothie with a banana, half a cup of low fat yoghurt a teaspoon of honey and a cup of ice crushed.

Lunch was always a big problem for me especially with white bread sandwiches. I am planning on knocking white bread completely out of my diet and replacing with wraps or pitta bread. Is this a good plan? I would be planning on either having a wrap with sliced meat/chicken/turkey/tuna with lettuce, onion and a small bit of low-fat mayonaisse or a bowl of soup and an apple or some other fruit

Dinner will mostly be potato, veg and meat or some variation of that or pasta with a tomato sauce and some chorizo sausage or rice with a low-fat sauce and some chicken.

Right now I tend to snack a lot late at night and I am hoping to quit that. Instead I am planning on having a snack at about 9pm (8 just seems so early to stop eating!) of one of those weight watcher type snacks.

I am also planning on drinking 2-2.5 litres of water a day.

So does that sound like a good plan? Obviously its going to be a big change for me so I would hate to start following a plan that was flawed. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't feel I know enough to give advice on the nutrition side of things but that running programme you've linked is good. It's tried and tested and has got untold numbers of people up to running 5k distance. It's where I started last january and I did the dublin marathon in october. So it definitely works.

If you're finding it unpleasant going then you're probably running too fast. Almost every beginner does. I certainly did. The most important thing is increasing the amount of time you spend running, NOT how fast you run. If you run too fast you'll just feel ****e, you won't spend as long doing it so you won't provide the same training stimulus and you're asking to injure yourself :)

I'm no good at taking that advice myself though and I bet you won't be either :) Hope you enjoy the running, once it stops being a battle for breath it's quite relaxing.
