Muse to play Wembley Stadium

Muse is the first band to announce a gig at London`s new Wembley Stadium since last year`s aborted attempt to re-open the iconic venue led to shows by Bon Jovi, the Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams and Take That being re-located.

The June 16 gig will be Muse`s first stadium show and comes on the back of worldwide success for its latest album, 'Black Holes and Revelations' (Warner Bros). Tickets go on sale Dec. 9. The exact capacity for concerts at Wembley has yet to be finalized, but will be in the region of 75,000 people.

The band is currently on a sold out 39-date arena tour across the U.K. and Europe, playing to an average of 12,000 fans per night. Speaking pitchside in the new stadium - which will primarily be used for sporting events, including international matches for the English national soccer team - Muse drummer Dominic Howard admitted to Billboard.com the gig was 'a huge step up' for the band.

"It`s something we`ve dreamed of in the past," he said, "and now definitely seems the right time to do it. It`s going to be amazing, overwhelming." Singer Matt Bellamy jokingly promised "flashing screens, a helicopter balloon drop and maybe a spaceship" for the show and said the band hoped the concert would have the feel of a mini-festival.

"We`ll definitely have three other bands [on the bill] and hopefully some of those bands will be pretty well known, and we`ll try and make a real summer event out of it," he said. Muse is also planning two other European stadium shows around the same time, with details to be announced.

The original Wembley Stadium played host to dozens of legendary concerts, including the original Live Aid in 1985. It closed in 2000 and the rebuilding process has been hit by huge construction delays. Bon Jovi - who played the last concert at the old Wembley in 2000 - had been due to play the first gig at the new stadium on June 10 this year, but had to move the show to Milton Keynes Bowl.

Wembley Stadium`s Chief Executive, Michael Cunnah, told Billboard.com there is likely to be one big music event before the Muse concert, and said he was in negotiations with a number of promoters about booking further shows.

Won't be in the hemisphere myself but if I was there's no way I'd miss that. Gig of the decade, to be honest.

75,000 actually seems small compared to the new capacity, i would have thought it would be closer to 100,000 at least.

Still though, this is definitely one gig i'd be sure to go to.

Seems strange that considering tickets are on sale in 4 days, that there's not a mention of it on ticketmaster?

Muse are class. I wouldnt mind going to this myself. But Wembley Stadium? I didnt think muse were that big. A slot at slane is on the way id say if they can carry this off. Who else big enough will be touring next year?

Muse are getting really big, they played 3 shows at Wembley Arena accross the road this month, 2 in the NEC & 2 MEN (manchester).

Getting ticks for this on Sat, anybody know how much they cost?

They've promised big u2 style stages

Well I wouldn't hold my breath for ticketmaster. Got an email from Muse (on mailing list) saying tickets are on www.gigsandtours.com but they arent showing prices yet :/

Saw them last week and there sure as hell was nowhere near 12,000 at it. Prob around 2,500. Great gig though and the stage was seriously impressive. They had 2 large screens each side of the stage and a large one behind the stage where they were beaming real time video footage and the editing of it was amazing, I've seen alot of DVD's that didn't look as polished as real time footage. Hope they release a DVD of this tour!

That was pretty sad, after their biggest gig ever an all.

Yeah, definately! Although Im sure one of the best ways to get over it all might be to return and conquer the place once again.

Ok, anyone know how to go around getting tickets for the French one? Its on the 23rd June, right after the LC, and I pretty much want to go to see them outdoors as I wont be seeing them at ****** if they play. Iv tried looking around but nowhere except their fansite microcuts.net have any news on the gig. Has anyone gone to a gig in France before(other than Rock en Seine festival) and how did you go around getting tickets if so?

According to Muse-Messenger.com (French Official Muse fanclub) And Altavista French Babelfish translation:
Here it is official, MUSE will play the Park of the Princes on June 23, 2007. The places will be offered for sales as from Friday January 12, 2007 starting from 10h00. A pre-sale will take place on the official site www.muse.mu as from Wednesday January 10. Do not trainez because there will not be for everyone! In addition, MUSE could make some festivals this summer in France, but nothing is still confirmed. On the other hand not from dates of envisaged before June 23, the group will return to France only for the Park of the Princes.
So if you are on the Muse.mu mailing list you will get a link, i think.

Well.. they've been playing arena tours since 2001 there. They're massive in france, unfortunately for you.

Yeah France is certainly their biggest market!

Rock en Seine, come on it has to happen. €70 for a two day festival with about three stages and some big names play it. Take two years ago for example, QOTSA and the Pixies, thats enough for me. Would keepa look out maybe for it. Looks hopeless for stadium gig what with crappy school that morning.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

Has anyone actually received their tickets yet? And any news on who is supporting?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,338 ✭✭✭aphex™

    Nope

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,798 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

AFAIK, the Klaxons will be supporting them in Wembley. Funny stuff, the first time they were asked, the Klaxons lads told them to **** off by accident. An interview days later, they were pretty much begging to be asked to play. All worked out well for them

What tickets you get Mossy?? Pitch?? I'm on pitch.

I think theres a competition on muselive.com to win vip box tickets if anyone's interested. Creative use of google would get you the right answers.

Invite me if you win. :)

Well Elites, at least we will see them. I'm fully prepared to leave the Beastie Boys early to see them again...all excited now, Citizen Erased live once again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,798 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Well for some to be at the front. I really wanna be close, but also really wanna see Beasties, and its possibly a once-in-a-lifetime thing for me, ya know? Would have really loved to go to London, as said, a stadium gig with them playing, it'd be so damn epic to say the least. This damn Leaving Cert, cutting down on all options. Hoping for another amazing light show aswell

Just got an email from Ticketmaster saying
    Dear Ticketmaster Customer,

This is a courtesy email from Ticketmaster regarding your purchase of tickets for the Muse event that is due to take place at the Wembley Stadium.

Please note that the tickets for this event will be printed and supplied to Ticketmaster by the Event Organiser.

We do not anticipate receiving the tickets from the Event Organiser until closer to the event date.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause you, but unfortunately this is beyond our control.

Why is this taking so long?

That is very odd, that the organisers post the tickets to ticketmaster, who in turn send them out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,338 ✭✭✭aphex™

I bought mine at seetickets.co.uk and they say they haven't been printed yet. They say they'll be sent out 1 week before the gig

a week? that might be a bit dodgy for us Irish then!?
Yeah I would hope to get the tickets at the box office if necessary (then do a chargeback!). Nobody in Ireland or the Uk has received tickets for this gig though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,798 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Rodrigo Y Gabriella will be...lost in Wembley.

Sunday gig would be cool for Biffy Clyro, pah to MCR though. Muse are supporting MCR in USA at the moment, must be a reciprocating thing now in Europe.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

    The Streets

Must check out Rodrigo Y Gabrilla.

Edit: Just listened to some of it, although it is great, it is hardly stadium material though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭yevveh

I've seen RyG a few times right back to the 'Foc' album. Agreed that it's not stadium material, that said they were getting the crowd going in the Green Room at UNSPECIFIC IRISH FESTIVAL there, so perhaps they'll get a similar response at Wembley.

Though, on the bright side, BIFFY ****IN' CLYRO! Jesus! I'd definitely go on the Sunday if I could, I wouldn't mind sitting through MCR if I got to see Biffy. That said I've seen Muse far too many times already and don't intend to in the future, unless they start playing Showbiz and Hyper Music again :p

AFAIK it is, at least for a good while anyway. It'll probably be some massive cool lightshow. Hopefully like the lasers when they played the EMA's lasst year. More of that stuff. Check out microcuts.net for tour dates, excellent site for info on the band

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,798 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

^^me too. I'd seen them at half 6 that morning, just before I left for the gig. But still, the big screen displays were a nice touch. Hoping for something epic on this tour. Speacially as a dvd is coming I think

CSS and we are scientists have been added

I'm going to the Sunday gig, should be epic.
Then Pearl Jam the following night!

I've seen Rod y Gab loads of times in Dolans and they are great.
Seen em at a major Irish festival last year too and the atmosphere was brilliant, very different to the smaller gigs. I was surprised too, by the crowd they had in the tent as it was overlapping with the Chili Peppers and Sigur Ros.

    No real interest in MCR.
Don't know anything about Biffy Clyro though, what should I get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭yevveh

Pretty much anything is good. Blackened Sky is their first so chronological order ain't a bad way to do it. Nomatter what album you pick up there's gonna be great songs on it.

not my cup of tea, but whenever i don't know anything about a band i just myspace them, possibly the only good reason for the exsistence of myspace.

i'm not going to this because if i saw biffy and muse in wembley i'd probably die from over jisming.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

Tickets arrived today. Why do they wait so long to send them out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭yevveh

I don't know why but I do know that they generally don't send them out til 2/3 weeks before the gig. At least Ticketbastard Ireland anyway.

Looking good. Goto the Microcuts website for other pics. Some are just too big to put up. Looks....epic! Cant wait to see them
