Right I have been in touch with the Henry Street Game and this is 100% what's going on.

Price of Wii console at present is €280.
That is subject to change as on the day they will be ringing around all the stores to get a group pricing and that price should go down by 20 to 30 euro.
If you are in the first 110 pre-booking in the store you are GUARANTEED a console on the day.I rang in today and booked my games and accessories too.
Apparently they have 96 consoles in their shop now and are getting a couple more over the next few days.

They are getting more copies of Zelda than they are Wii consoles so hold onto your knickers.Looks like a lot of people (Including myself) are getting a happy ending here finally!!!

280! That really is taking the piss. I hope it does come down. I pre-ordered mine in Smyths and if they try and pull the same crap Ill walk away without my Wii. Fuc£ em all to hell!!

Sounds like Game told you what you want to hear. For weeks Game have been taking pre orders for Wiis and they cant deliver on these promises. It was just a scam to get deposits and gurantee them that they have people as future customers. Many people next Friday will be told to come back in a week or so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

€280!!! i am so hoping your right about it coming down because the max i can spend on the console is €260 as ive to get zelda to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

ok ive made 3 calls to game in the last week
    1st call quoted €250
    2nd call quoted €250-€270
    and just now quoted €250-€280

    thats a bloody disgrace

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

GAME in the square just told me €270. none of the between this and this bullshit just straight out €270.

I think thats reasonable, especially as Irish stores (for the majority) will be getting their Wiis from the UK where its £179, which is roughly €270.

hmm €270 i can live with that seeing as its €250 with my preorder
so that leaves me with €50 to buy zelda
but id say it will be €60 so i might have to borrow €10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

I think its pretty certain that Zelda will be 60.
I'm tryin to figure out what else I wanna get, probably Wii Play, dont think I could afford another game after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭mr.noobie

i was in smyths today n they said €280 i hope it comes down then i can prolly get res steel aswell as zelda

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

They didn't "just tell me what I want to hear"
I originally only contacted them to ask if I was even getting my console and gave them my number. They said yes and moved on to ask me did I want to pre-order anything with it and also told me 4 of their bundles.
We'll see on the day then I suppose....

Any word on what time the store in Henry street is opening. I don't suppose they're doing a midnight opening?

Is it Gamestop you mean? If so, then yeah I was told by a staff member that they will be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

well this thread is called "game henry st..." so I assume he means game

anyway. asd of Yesterday the wii was priced on GAME's tills as 270. how do I know? cause i checked it myself!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭Luluk

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'll be getting my console then, as I'm number 60, so I'm a happy camper in that regard. Shame about the price, though, but maybe that'll come down like you said. I'm going to phone them tomorrow morning to confirm. At this point I won't be surprised if they tell me something completely different!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

well you see a lot of people that work in the shops at this stage dont really know how to check things on the tills so they dont actually know whats going on. that goes for some managers too so they just say what theyre told.

Prices do change though. it is 270 at the moment but may go up or down(hopefully).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

€270 is in line with the UK price though, so cant see it changing here anytime soon! (Damnit!)

How do you know what position you are on the list my Serial No. is 1074 does that mean 74 or a depressing 1074? When I asked game they said i could pick up my preordered Wii anytime between friday and Monday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

    You're number 74.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭Gonzo_Reporter

Well I got the call this evening to confirm that I will be getting my hands on a Wii on launch day

The also asked if you wanted to reserve any games

They are opening at 7.30am according to the lady who called me

Now I am not sure that is just for people who pre-ordered or for everyone

Also they have limited copies of Wii Play which will be sold on a first come first served basis.

    Cya all on friday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Linku

Ok, I'm confused. My receipt has a serial number of 0017, but I only preordered on the 17th November, and they said they'd just started taking preorders again, and that I might not get one at launch... they hardly only took 16 Preorders before that? My friend was in earlier that same day and they weren't taking preorders.

It does say 'Wii Deposit $2' though, maybe that means second round?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

Mine says the $2 also. But I'm getting my console:)
Don't worry about it you should get one.
And they told me they were worried about selling Wii play as they have recieved the game itself but not the Wiimotes that are supposed to be sold with it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Linku

Great.... hopefully they'll call me tomorrow or else I'll have to pay them a teary eyed visit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

Don't worry, you may bot even need to.
I was told that they haven't even finished ringing people yet and I would have been rang even if I hadn't.And I was also told that if you were between 0001 and 0110 you can walk in there on Friday and pick up your Wii.
I wouldn't worry about visiting them or ringing them.Just show up and grab it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Linku

Yeah but I went in a few days after I preordered to ask if I could pay upfront to guarantee one at launch, and I was told that as I preordered so late I wouldn't be getting one from the launch batch.

Edit: I just noticed this thread is Henry St... I preordered in Dawson St >.<

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

Well I hope that's just because they knew so little back then.
As if you're in fact number 17 you're ahead of me and I'm getting one....

    ***EDIT***

^^Ahh well I have no idea what's going on there other than a midnight launch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭Luluk

Just an idea... Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, but it seems strange to me that someone who ordered in mid November would get a serial number of 0017, when I ordered in Henry Street in early October and am 0060. I can't believe they had so few orders as to number only seventeen up until November. It could be that they used several different order books, and that there are multiple people with the same serial number.

Also, does anyone know exactly what time the Henry Street branch is opening on Friday morning? And am I right in thinking that there is definitely no midnight opening in Henry Street?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

No midnight launch on Henry street.
And I was told around 8am for opening.(That's not concrete though)

    Ahhhhhh I'm 113! For god's sake!! :(

If you see some bloke outside the shop staring murderously at all the happy customers its just me, walk over and say hello if ya like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

^^^For you and the guy who said he was 0115.
He first said for those who are say in the first 0120 and then he corrected himself and said to be safe if you're in the first 0110 you are guaranteed a console. But he never said anyone just after that mark wouldn't get one.
Just keep your fingers crossed and show up on time.
Good luck to both of you.

My fingers will be crossed for you Daddio, because your mod and username combination is awesome.

Thanks AceCard (I'm 0115), just rang Game to ask but he said they are calling everyone on the list and just wait and they will call me back. The suspense is killing me.

I wonder if I'll still get a call or if my call counted....
Anyway at this stage I was promised the console so I'm just going to show up and grab it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭Luluk

Game Henry Street just called to confirm that my Wii will be there on Friday! I'm over the moon. They asked me which games I wanted, so I pre-ordered Zelda (duh), Super Monkey Ball, and Wii Play (she didn't mention any problem with the free wiimote). So I'll be there 7.30 with a big grin on my face. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

They asked me on the phone did I still have my receipt so I guess it's important.
But if you can provide your name and other details and even your number in line I'm sure you're sorted.Especially if you have your loyalty card.

I'm number 0060 on the first batch at Henry Street and I got a call today to collect my Wii on Friday. I think some of the other branches start numbering at 1000, so you're probably number 44.

No, there's nothing like that. I heard some people have a $2 thingy on theirs, but mine doesn't.

I guess I won't be getting one on Friday :(

I could go to the limited First-Come-First-Served in GAME, Dawson St and bring my "preorder" along anyway but I don't want to walk away empty handed!

I've even heard some people being told by stores they won't get them until January

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 416 ✭✭scary

Game in the Square has gaurenteed anyone who has a pre-order that they will have a Wii before christmas. heres hoping.

A member of staff from Game Galway just rang me there to veriify what Wii package I wanted to get on Friday, they are opening at 7am.

    * Wii on its own €270-280
Wii + One other game €375 (this is what he told me but I think he must have gotten it wrong)
Wii + One other game + Wii Play (includes controller) €385
Wii + Two other game €390
    Wii + loads of games (4or5) €520ish

All games are €60 (bit harsh) and Wii play is €55

Wii comes with Wii sports as standard.

I emailed Nintendo Europe during the week to ask why European gamers were getting overcharged so much (In Japan the Wii lauched for €170-180 and in US for €180-190). I was told it was because of translations, transport and having to get CE certified.which is all rubbish be cause they have to do that in every other region. It seems the Sony and Nintendo don't take the European gamer seriously.

I think I will pick up option for €385, I would be buyin a second contoller and zelda anyway (270+60+55= €385) so I amn't actually saving a penny, so much for bundle.
Will decide for definite on Friday.

You should be ok at 3*, a friend of mine is number 42 in Dundrum and he rang this afternoon and they do have his one.

I rang Game on Dawson street and they said there wasn't a fixed price for the Wii yet but it wouldn't be more than 270. Seems like we're not going to have any idea which branch actually has the prices right till the day :(

This is my first post here. Thought it might be helpful as I have a few friend who are long time customers of Game on Henry Street.

I ordered mine a couple of weeks back and a friend ordered when they first started taking them back in September. He got a call today to say his was going to be there on Friday.

I called and was told I was on phase #2 (November orders) and that I would get a call if mine was going to be in on Friday. (Couldn't give a definate yes but said they would DEFINATELY be there before Xmas) YAY!!!

Also when my friend called in a couple of weeks back he was told that there where a few diffrent sequence numbers. 1001 is actually before 0001 and 0101 is the first of the second phase.

They are asking what games you want for launch so they can put them aside too! Cant wait to get mine heres hoping for Friday! Definately €270!
