Sky One: lost Season 3 Ratings

The third series of Lost made a successful start on Sky One last night, attracting 1.4 million viewers.
The show's expensive transfer from Channel 4 immediately started to justify the Sky money spent on it, with the first instalment attracting what is believed to be the network's second best audience of the year to date.

Only the Ricky Gervais episode of The Simpsons has proved more popular on Sky One this year, attracting 2.2 million viewers, aired early Sunday evening back in April.

Lost series three launched on Sky One with 1.4 million viewers for the first episode from 10pm, and 1.2 million for the second instalment of the opening night double bill from 11pm.

The Sky One show eclipsed BBC3's homegrown sci-fi drama, Torchwood, which attracted 1 million viewers from 10pm.

Torchwood launched on BBC3 four weekends ago with 2.4 million viewers, but has now settled at around 1 million viewers.

Other 10pm multichannel competition last night included ITV2's Entourage, which attracted 131,000 viewers, Curb Your Enthusiasm on More4 with 42,000, and a Sopranos repeat on E4 which drew 73,000.

And BBC4's Ian Fleming: Bondmaker was watched by 107,000 viewers in the 10pm hour.

Lost made a stronger start on Sky One than 24, the network's last big steal from a free-to-air rival.

The third series of 24 launched on Sky One in January 2004 with just under 1 million viewers, after transferring from BBC2.

In July this year, the fifth series of 24 concluded on Sky One with a little over 500,000 viewers.

Series one of Lost averaged 4.1 million viewers on Channel 4, series two 2.7 million.

On E4, the second series of Lost attracted up to 1 million viewers, premiering after the previous episode was broadcast on Channel 4 at 10pm on Tuesday nights.

However, E4 is available in several million more multichannel homes than Sky One, because it has distribution on Freeview.

For the UK these ratings aren't very good even when you don't count the fact not everyone in the UK has access to sky channels.

24 is so much better then LOST.

Lost is averaging 300,000+ viewers in the Republic coming in 3rd after Rodge and Podge.

Its one of Sky's best performing shows and nearly always had better ratings then 24 which gets a lot more buzz and publicity. O/T Season 2 is great this year.

Sky has a viewer base of approx 10million and 1.5 million for the first showing is brilliant for Sunday. It doesn't include the repeat airings on Wednesdays and on Sky Two. For Lost to be Sky One's number one show is exactly what they want - it performs well and is a brand name for the channel.

As for 24 being better than Lost. I love them both. But why did you bring 24 into this?

Lost is doing well this year considering the lack of people watching the first episode due to Halloween. For a comparison with season one and two visit:

Lost as you can see is usually second or third with sorts being number one or the proceeding episode of Podge and Rodge second sometimes.

I like lost but they need to go some where with it, I hope that the viewers will stay up for RTE Two but with such a long break, It might not do as well as these first 6 episodes which brought us nowhere.

I know what I psted but it wasn't asking your opinion on 24. It was about the ratings. Maybe you should have read the post and actually understand the context.

You brought up 24 in the forum, I was giving my opinion on how much better 24 is to LOST and how the ratings for 24 don't diminish the fact that it is a far better show then the never ending question that is LOST.

I am aloud give that opinion if I so wish.

Are you quoting someone in your orginal post?

That's totaling up all the airings of two episdos BTW (which was overblown) in the first week. Lost (one episode) is repeated at least 4 other times in a week on the Sky network and if you are being picky about this would add up to over Heroes not thet it actually matters.

    Your addition skills are bad.

US ratings are down as its on at 10PM, 11PM for some people. There are also a lot of other ways to watch the show but the network is happy with Lost's ratings performance. When its run like 24 in January 2008 it should bounce back.

As for Sky One, ratings have fallen for all Sky shows since Vigin and Sky's disagreemnt on carriage deals.

Alot of talk recently about LOST having only 4 Seasons. I kinda hope it's true as i don't want them to ruin the show by dragging it out for more money.

I thought it was confirmed that there will be 2 more seasons after this one (season 3) making it a total of 5 series?

It seems about right. I would love for them to keep on making series til they die but 5 seasons seems about right to answer all the mysteries of Lost!

    RTE TWO ratings

    WEEKENDING 1/4/2007 229,000
During Feb an average of 242,000

According to Medialive Sky one only had an average of 11,000 Irish viewers for Lost. (14,000 viewers for 24 :) LOL, had to mention 24)

    Don't know about March

Also I think that Lost's ratings may prove the ratings system in Ireland is a good bit out. I mean Lost has had a drop of 100,000 viewers since it now goes out on Sky first, yet Sky only has 11,000 viewers, some how I think this is wrong.

Having looked back on Season 2 I notice that it didn't appear in C4's irish top twenty at all!

I note that on Sunday night Lost is up againist ER, Dante's Peak (RTE 2) and The Forgotten (TV3) TOTAL VIEWERS ACROSS ALL SHOW 612,000 VIEWERS. So maybe it doesn't do that well on sky.

Also the way Lost is going it will have 5 more series.

Which is why i am saying, the longer they make LOST to more viewers they will lose. I think 4 Seasons, MAX 5 is enough.

Er, maybe it didn't feature in the Irish Channel 4 Top 20 because RTE were miles ahead with Season 2 (and 1) whereas this year Sky get to the TV screens first.

I'm surprised the ratings haven't started to move up; several people I know have regained interest again based on positive word of mouth from other fans of the show and are enjoying it.

For the rest there is the Whine About Lost thread (or several others, by the look of things tonight!).:)

I don't mean to bring 24 into this converstation but....

since I mention that show in my last post LOL......

24 had a terrible season 4, only to come back as one of the best shows on TV in season 5.

This could easily happen with Lost.

Quite a big drop if you compare it with the start of the season.
