I would like the opinions of people who are/have lived in these places. Im going to WIT next year and would like to stay in student accommdation next year and not in some house i have to rent.

I think that development by Railway Square (that new shopping complex and cinema) has student accommodation. A friend of mine was renting an apartment there - very very nice accommodation compared to Manor Village / Riverwalk.

I aint lived in either place, but friends of mine live in both places. Iv been in Manor more - not to fond of the place to be honest but it does most people! Riverwalk I am rarley in so cant comment!

Check out that thread for some opinions.

If your course is going to be in the Cork Rd campus, I would suggest finding a house in Templars Hall. The "student villages" feel more like institutions than homes.

I havent yet been in the apartments in Railway Square, but if the op's course is on the Cork Rd campus it probably would be a less than ideal living place.

    Will you be driving OP?

Ya ill be in the cork road campus all the time so something around there would be good. All i really want is somewhere i would be living with 1st years like myself and surronded by students.

Nah i wont be driving, i have a car but i'll probaly walk or cycle cause ill be so close.

Templars hall is your best bet then. Manor village and Riverwalk are both half an hour walk away. Templars hall has plenty of students anyway.

Manor Village wouldnt be a half hour walk away? Its about 10-15mins walking.. For me anyway.

Never walked to Riverwalk so not to sure about that one

I guess you walk faster than me then.......

Riverwalk is about 5 mins beyond Superquinn....

Thinking about it, if I leave the Cork Road Campus ill get to Superquinn in about 20mins. Sometimes less if there aint many people walking or not to difficult to cross the road. I do it so I can get a lift from the Bus Stop there on the Tramore road. Same to Manor, as its just straight ahead and probably same distance between the roundabout to Manor & SQ?!

From SQ to Riverwalk, is like 2mins. Supprised if it took someone 5!

Well at the pace I see most people walking it wouldnt surprise me...but anyway...this has wandered slightly offtopic.

I dont mind the student villages. I've been to ones in limrick and waterford and i think they are fine. I just want to know is manor village security strict? I've heard that you cant bring people back if they dont live in manor, is this true?

I've been in and out of both, though not during term time.

In term of bringing people back, there is a central rececption in manor village that you have to go through (depending which block you live in), there isnt in riverwalk, though anytime I was late going into Manor Village there was no one on reception....

I know for riverwalk you can just walk on through but it would be kinda gay if your bringin back a girl and u had to pay for her to stay and get permission like being back home with your parents all over again.

Manor doesnt normaly seem to care if you bring visitors with you. People walk in and out of that place all the time, how are they to know who is genuine etc?

Iv been in their many times till 2AM and nobody has said anything. There is normaly a guy at reception but he sits hidden away watching TV :P I also know of people who have stayed over night without hassle.

The one thing that does happen is you get locked in after midnight and to get back in you gotta press the buzzer and the chap at reception is able to open the door. Never been asked to prove I was staying their tho.

Assuming I go to WIT, I'll try stay in College Fields for the first year at least. Manor Village seems a tad out of the way.

Riverwalk is nicer than Manor Village from what I've seen. Neither of them are more than a 15 minute walk from the college.

There is a shuttle bus that runs from Manor Village up to the college in the morning, free for Manor Village residents. Don't know if they do the same for riverwalk, they were not last year anyway.

Student Accommodation in Railway Square is:-

    €85 a week,
Electric Fire (everything is electric, no gas),
FREE NTL Broadband (not to sure of the speed),
Bills to be payed:- NTL (TV) and Electricity,
    No charge for rubbish,
    Only one room ensuite.

Thats about as much as I know about them apartments..

    Where is Templars hall?

Its unbelievably boring. The apartments are just dull, no other word to describe it, not to mention freezing. The chairs in the living room - id swear they bought them from prisons theyre so uncomfortable. Its also impossible to sleep here.

have to say railway square was a pleasure, just hope they've fixed the alarms, when i was there it didnt have security though, broadband was 3mb's, we were brought around by book a room who were terrible id never rent of them, but calicon who we did rent of were really a pleasure to deal with, they were great, it took ages for all the original teething problems to get sorted but im not complaining because they tried there best with everything and in the end had all issue's resolved, it isnt rare to see Pat condon there at 3 in the morning fixing a book a room issue or cleaning.

do a google for calico or calicon cant remember the exact name, due to circumstances i moved out but they refunded my deposit entirely, we had a huge tv in our sitting room and all rooms were unsuite, my parents couldnt believe the apartment when they saw it. however do be warned i seen alot of the apartments and not all were as good as mine.

theres a bus every 15mins from litterally outside the apartment and drops you directly to the college, honest it was quicker to get there than walk from templers hall.

broadband was NTL 3mb. My room was big and spacious and all the interior/furniture and fittings were all new and expensive but i was under the impression that our apartment may have been a view apartment.

Theres generally a good vibe around the apartment block. Its a runner.

i wouldnt live in manor village for all the money in the world, riverwalk was a bit basic to and the broadband was rubbish.

They have a site? Anyway, I called them the other day and they only had profesionals appartments available, and no student accommodation.

I dont think Nickys (neon_glows) is student accommodation.

Students Union have been made aware of the problems at Manor Village and I assume they will be looking into it. Anybody with any problems - go to SU and they will sort it out. :)
