Should be an historic event for poker in this country imho, looking forward to it too

    sounds great!

The structure should make up for having to play with bloody students.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,771 ✭✭✭carfax

    Thanks lads,

We really need every student player to tell as many other students as possible about this.

We are literally in the final final stages of the negotiations with a sponsor and there will be lots of bonus's on offer for participants.

I just need as many people as possible pre-registered not only because it will make registering more straightforward but because it will look good to have loads of interested players.

    stephen@pokerireland.ie to pre-register.

Send the email to pre-register and all questions will be answered.
    stephen@pokerireland.ie

A student is somebody that is currently studying in my opinion.
I've had one inquiry from an 18 year old leaving cert student so far.

We talked about this in another thread, anybody currently registered in 3rd level education.
2nd level students should consult Carfax on an individual basis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,902 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

So max no. of entrants results in €28.6k prizepool. Plus extra for sponsors.
Can you leak any info about sponsors carfax, who's involved.
I was thinking about this the other day and I realised that aswel as a pokersite making a good sponsor, somebody like toyota (sponsor WSOP) might also get involved, without infringing on the other sponsor.

You should get a ticker count-down thing for your sig carfax, www.tickerfactory.com i think

    Thanks lads,

Just need to keep this going. I'm getting plenty of emails now with players pre-registering but I need everyone to keep telling people about it.

Its the players that will make this event and I just want to make sure we get at least 400.

    email stephen@pokerireland.ie to pre-register.

    Cheers.

Wonder are any other Nuig people going to turn up.
    Email sent.

Blinds 40 mins or an hour? Says an hour on the site I think.

I'd imagine so, as long as its a proper course. With a min duration set by carfax,
and not a week long course on sewing

Lol, no, not sewing. I've to repeat a few modules from last year starting January, part time 'til June.

And will you be a ful time student again next year? if so it can't be a problem.

You know when this was originally proposed who realised how technical the definition of a student would get!

    Lots of recently graduated students???

Quick reminder again to anyone reading this thread for the first time.

Email pre-registrations to stephen@pokerireland.ie now please.

Getting loads of responses and I'm sure we will make the 400 player mark at least but just want to get the word out to as many people as possible earlier rather than later.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.

Super, im just finished 5 yrs of college and this tourney comes along

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,771 ✭✭✭carfax

    Hi all,

Just wanted to send out another quick reminder to tell anyone that might be interested in playing in this student championship to email me.

I've been getting a great response but everyone should know that I will not be looking for payment of registration until closer to the actual date.

What I do need is as many people pre-registered as this will make it easier to guarantee people a place in the tournament etc......

    Thanks,
    stephen@pokerireland.ie

Also, you do not have to be a full time student to play, just a student of some description.

    Pre-register now please.

    RESULT.......

Send me an email so BigCity.

It just gives us a lot more leeway with sponsorship with more and more people pre-registered.

    stephen@pokerireland.ie

    Cheers mate.

Just noticed on pokersoc.com "Satellites: Satellites will be running in colleges throughout the country right up until January 24th. Online satellites for this event will be confirmed soon". Thought Id give you a heads up that UCD (and Id imagine other colleges) are finished up on December 1st until Jan 23rd 07. Don't want to discourage you but it means that, with us anyway, there will be no more meetings before the event itself and therefore no practical way of publicising the event to our members (emails dont seem to work).

On a more optimistic note, it does sound like a brilliant tourney and Ill defo mention it to anyone I can here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,404 ✭✭✭Goodluck2me

word of mouth seems to be th eonly way right now if getting the word around.... i think posters would make a huge difference too. if its well advertised then it should really be a success.

    check pms Carfax...

Thanks for the heads up. Its really a simple matter of sending out an email to all of the players in the Poker Soc in each college......DIT have by far the most pre-registered players so far and thats really down to Jeff and Anto telling players about the tournament and sending out a group email. For this to be a success we really need all of the colleges telling players about it.

Its not just important in terms of college poker but also for the future of the sport, imo.

    stephen@pokerireland.ie PRE-REGISTER NOW!!!

If emails aren't working then fair enough.

But you can only do your best to tell people about it and word of mouth is the best way to organise a tournament in my experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,902 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

DIT bolton street and kevin street are running a €25 euro freezeout in the next week or two, expect a large number of players so if you van get posters to me Carfax ill try put them up at the event for the janurary one.
i've been telling alot of players about it at the bolton street game and ill try get a group email/text sent out after the bolton street reezeout to avoid confusion

is this the "1 in 10 wins a trip to croatia" game where "blind levels increase throughout the tournament" ? I'll be donating to that, (Dec 9th??), stephen, if you could get posters together by then or fliers even to advertise at that event. We'll be running a qualifier before we break for x-mas with "tickets added" via hoodie sales... I HOPE!

RE Posters: do you have any artwork you wanna use? i can have a stab at a poster if ya want. And if you wanna get them done at short notice i suppose Reads of Nassau st do bets deals, they'll even take a few quid off the price if you let them stick a READS banner on the poster.

    Hi,

I think I have a competitive quote for flyers/posters so I will get this sorted out first thing tomo morning.

It will probably be Monday at the earliest before I can get them out to peops though as I am in Sligo on Saturday (in the Adelaide Casino for those of you that might want to play in a €200+€20 freezeout).

    Thanks for all the support.
Sorry if my messages were a bit short earlier but just getting back to each individual that pre-registers is time consuming I suppose.
The number of people that have pre-registered is fairly substantial especially considering its 2 months before the tournament takes place..... but again, to anyone reading this thread for the first time email stephen@pokerireland.ie now to pre-register and guarantee your seat.

For more info check out www.pokerireland.ie

    Thanks.

Not sure whats happening with the DIT tourney, it may be a rebuy now and i dont like the sound of some of the details.

The National Student Champs defo won't be a re-buy tourney.....I think DIT is talking about a different tourney there.

And yes I am a fan of the hard sell (no matter how good a service you offer people just seem to want more)....One question I was asked was would I be subsidising anyone travelling to the tournament from outside of Dublin, he he.

You could try to contact them and ask for a mailing list.

was talking to a few of the boys in UCD today about this and ive never had so many positive responses from it so it all seems to be going well. id also think apart from wheni win it i could make some money from Jeffery and anthony etc, by doing some sort of a team element to it (nominal fees obviosly as to not effect the game (or give you excuses)) like 5 best UCD..v 5 DIT versus the 3 best in trinity, (not sure it theres a fouth player there yet...).. what do you reckon?

also what about getting dealers for this, was thinking novelty dealers would be funny. ( i dont mean liek clown outifts and wigs) more like people we know? role reversal etc?? anyone?

    Lol,

Its actually a bit of a problem to find dealers for this. The best of the best will be playing in the thing.
