As 6th pointed out in the meetup thread, we need to get numbers for folks interested in Charleville Castle, Co. Offaly. Leave your old John Hancock below and we'll get the ball rolling.

I would be interested in checking that place out too and can offer a lift from the big schmoke too - I wont be staying over there though (if thats the plan).

I'm a newbie but am interested in tagging along.

I live quite near and i know all of the site very well as i occasionally work within the whole estate.:)

It doesnt need to be an over night as the sleeping situation is very minimal. There are trains from Hueston to Tullamore which is then a bout a 20minute walk to teh Castle - most of that walk is along the driveway of the castle, a narrow road with a 300 year old oak forest around it.

Theres a kitchen there and someone could always nip into town on a chipper run so you wont starve.

Price wise, its normaly something like 40/45 each for my group when we do an over night and you have to sign a form to get in because the place has alot of work going on and it can be a bit dangerous.

    Any questions on this?

6th - there is parking at the castle right ? What dates are people looking at ? Just checked it on the map here and it looks easy enough to get to http://www.tullamoreonline.net/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    Yep, I'm up for it!

Any chance of a lift off someone?

I'm not sure if public transport knows about Tullamore...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Lots of parking at the castle. Who's organising this so I can give the castle a nod and pass on numbers/email addresses?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

Yep Terri she's dropping up on sunday and was going to get all the details from her in person and find out what times/dates suits.

Hey if anyone else wants to organise this please do.

    Seb.

    Dec 22nd-24th(X-Mas Eve)

    Jan 12th-14th
    Jan 19th-21st

This is just to get a rough idea who can make it when I know there is usualy a lot on over next few weeks such as XMas partys and family so don't be scared to shout out for the jan dates.

Count me in and lets please settle on a date quickly ... I got some other stuff to plan ...

I can only do the Jan dates ...

Fajitas! .. I'm driving ... you can co-pilot ... now all we need is two stewardesses ...

... two additional seats available in my car ... all you got to do is get yourself to Kilmainham on the day of departure...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

I'm (kind of) in Kilmainham, and would love to tag along. Could only do Jan dates though, and not overnight. And only if you don't mind a total newbie...

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,686 Mod ✭✭✭✭melekalikimaka

i could do jan also, over night might be an issue... something bout sleeping over with peeps from the net stigma i JUST can't shake :D

I'm a relative newbie myself ... they're not as elitest as they sound in this forum ... quite a welcoming bunch really ... not sure if Fajitas is taking a lift but assuming he is then you are welcome to take a space ... but you may need to find your own way back coz I'd like to stay over ... depends on the sleeping sleeping arrangements .. I prefer to do me kippin in a bed ...

Got a mate in Laois will probably come fish me out. I have to have a warm bed and a kettle. You never know though.

Don't make me a definite, but a probable. And nice one! Thanks :)

This may be true but I'd still rather drive than be tied to the schedules and wonderful service of Irish Rail ... besides ... I aint carrying a pile of camera gear, overnight bag, sleeping gear, tripods etc on a crowded Friday evening train from Heuston ... or is the plan to travel Sat ? ... even then ... no way ...

Well ... it is a good size sports coupe with plenty of room in the back but only two seatbelts and bucket seats, the boot is enormous ... but it will be full of all our gear ... sorry ... I think it is full with Fajitas!, Xios and sineadw at the moment ... if anyone drops out then I'll put you first on the wait list ... unless of course it is me!!!
