    Sky+ Box that is.
New brochure out in retailers. To qualify you must buy a tv worth €250 or more. However, I went into a sky agent who deals with satellite only (not an electrical goods shop) and they're offering the same deal.

    Includes existing customers.

    Offer ends 24.12.06

yes. I saw that in a shop a week ago I think. But I couldn't see any TVs I wanted. They were all "HD ready" but all showing an RF SD feed of Discovery HD. I couldn't see any that actually had HD amout of pixels either.

If you were buying a new TV over 250 Euro wouldn't you more likely want SkyHD though?

so all i have to pay for is the install?

    Yes.

If you buy a TV for 250eur or more, you get Sky+ free, or Sky HD for half price. Installation charges apply.

Possibly, I think it's €244 or so. but at ANOTHER €15 a month for what, 6 or 7 HD Channels? Nah.
Anyway, you missed the part where I say at least one satellite shop is doing the deal WITHOUT the need to buy a tv. Which they don't sell....

Oh and phone-line. She was VERY insistent on the phone-line.

But frequently they do free or nearly free offers with subsidised install. If you sub to full package etc..

Ant on such deals you absolutley have always needed the phone line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭J@yK@y

    This sounds interesting!
I am a Sky subscriber - 6 mixes. I want to upgrade to Sky+, I am going to take out sub to the 2 movie channels to avoid the €15 sky+ charge (rather pay €20 extra and get movies then pay €15 extra for record abilities). I have been trying to introduce a friend so I get the free sky+ box but from what I read here I don't need to do that, I can get a free sky+ box anyway.
As I will not take a mirror sub, is this going to cost me installation charge? €75?

So, how do I get this free Sky+ ?
Where do I sign up? or....what's the catch?

    cheers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,434 ✭✭✭Dr. Nick

Ordered today. Yes, just the installation charge. Go to a local provider that doesn't sell tvs or isn't bothered about this part of the deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭J@yK@y

Thanks Dr Nick - can you please pm me the name and location of the supplier you ordered off?
    Cheers.

I went in to a dealer today and they said they'd pretend I got a tv and get me the box for free with just the €75 installation. Great stuff especially since I nearly bought the bloody thing for €149 last week!!!! I'll wait on the HD box for a year or so I think even tho I have a lovely Sony Bravia 32v2000 ... just too expensive even at half price for the amount of channels!

So just to get this right, if I get the Sky+ box I don't need any additional subscription on top of my current one ? I have the old Family Pack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭J@yK@y

No Jip - you still need to pay the €15 monthly or else upgrade to 2 premium channels.

The costs above are installation costs only, up until now it has been €149 for the sky+ box and €75 to get it installed. According to reports above, the box is now free from retailers (subject to conditions) and you only need to pay €75 for installation.

Sounds cool, was looking to get Sky+

Could someone please pm me the name and location of the supplier you ordered off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭Piusno1

I want to upgrade to sky+, I have 4 mixs and all Sky sports what am I expected to pay ? Will I still have to €15 each mth or is that only for multiroom. or do I pay €149 for the sky+ box once off , I heard something about €69 for the + box,
I am lost in all this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 404 ✭✭colmranger

I am in the very same boat as yourself.

Yesterday i called sky and we are expected to pay €149 to upgrade to a sky+ box, we also have to pay €75 installation fee. The installation fee is only free if you agree to also order sky multi room which then would add an additional €15 per month to your sky bill regardless of what package you currently have.

If you cancel your account and then re-join as your partners name or some other family member's name you will be entitled to a €69 sky+box and half price subscription for 6 months, (this is not really suited to me as i also have annual premiership+ sub which i would lose if i close my existing account).

SKY+ has a €15 surcharge for the live recording/pausing facilities, however if you have some premium channels you don't have to pay it. With you having all sky sports, I don't think you'll be charged.

you should do a fake order run here tho - > https://survey.sky.com/order/
    & see how you go.

@ this new offer, I called 2 agents about it.
1st one confirmed it was a go - free sky+ with 75 for installation
2nd one (my local agent) - hadn't heard of it

I guess you just have to choose the right ppl :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭J@yK@y

Are we not allowed to name these agents that are providing the free sky+ offer without tv purchase?

Surely this is no different than a post on the "Bargain Alerts" forum i.e. Company XYZ offer a free sky+ box if you sign-up.

Would really like to know who is offering the deal - would not know where to start finding an agent....

    I'm not sure, lol.

any mods/admins mind clarifying things here?

I just looked in the golden pages & picked one at random mind you.

Do we still require a phone line for Sky+? Will this go away like the orignal Sky did? i have a VOIP line and I don't think Sky+ will work:(

it was in Wicklow so I doubt it will be of any use to you.

I did find somewheres else in Drogheda. There are surely some agents running it closer to us, we just have to find em. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,434 ✭✭✭Dr. Nick

I think this was the kind of deal a lot of us were waiting for.
I bought a wireless phone signal sender/receiver from them with the money I saved. Installation next week I'm told.

I just found the flyer I picked up instore:
The Satellite Store, Main St. Ballincollig. tssb@eircom.net. 021-487 2311
Interestingly, the flyer says: Covering Munster. First Dedicated Sky Outlet in Ireland.

The actual brochure is the same one I saw in the new Curry's at Mahon point earlier in the week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 Rubylad

If you get a Sky+ box, do they take away the old Sky box? I wouldn't mind keeping the old box and using it to pick up the free channels, rather than getting Multiroom. Would that be possible, do they change LNB to a quad one?

Your original Sky box is your property, so you keep it. Yes, they change the lnb. A few bob to the installer I'm sure he'd run another cable down for your fta box.

So if they don't also sell TV's in the store the offer is ... go in pay 75euro installation and walk out with a sky + box (or wait till the installer guy comes out) .... I've already got the sky world package so has 2 premium channels ... So its litterally a free sky+ box thats amazing ... anyone know of any agents in dublin that dont do tv's

Sorry for going off topic a bit but I was wondering what a "a wireless phone signal sender/receiver" was? My Sky box and tv are in a very awkward position to run a premanent phone line to and thus have been holding off on Sky+ as I believe you need a permanent phone connection. Could this device help?

DECT based wireless phone extension can work well. Avoid mains tranfer ones as there are privacy, regulation, reliability and safety issues with them. Look for "DECT".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 309 ✭✭wardie

    Watty,

I have a video sender but my wireless broadband affects it. Would the wireless broadband affect a telephone wireless signal too or would that be on a different signal range ?

Cheers Watty. Where would you pick one up and how much do they cost? Maplins etc I suppose? Like Wardie I too have a Digisender for Sky and wireless broadband and a couple of mobile phones on the go am I in danger of frying the familly :D or at least causing a lot of noise bringing the other devices/signals into conflict?

€75 installation fee? For what, pluging it in?

Can we not just pick up the sky+ box somewhere?

lol, I don't believe your average joe/jane would be able to install the dish with Quad LNB & hook up the cabling n what not to the Digibox.

can you really get SKY+ boxes for under €75?

I just met a guy who is installing skyplus boxes to any existing customers for €99 complete!

PM me anyone who wants his number.

No, you can't. Wierdly, that'll cost you €300+

That's what I originally intened to do, but it's cheaper to get a fella to come to your house to do it. Go figure.

    Oh, and it's €85. €5 perf. €5 'admin'.

Great. But that's more expensive than what we're discussing. Unless he waives the phoneline of course.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭Pacifico

Why what is involved installing it, if you already have Sky??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,434 ✭✭✭Dr. Nick

Attaching a quad lnb, running another cable, and hooking up the necessaries.

    Not rocket science in fairness.

So johnny storm ... do you already have a sky+ box and he's installing it for 75 or do you have a normal box right now and for 75 euro your getting a sky+ and installation?

It seems to good to be true so just making sure haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

I already have regular Sky and he's supplying a Sky plus box for free and installing it for €75.

If that's not the case I'm going to be very disappointed :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭fisab

I assume that if you are out of contract with Sky (i.e. with them more than 12 months) and you go for this offer, then you are tied in with them for a further 12 months?

and you get a 12 month guarantee on the new sky+ box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,192 ✭✭✭norbert64

well I didn't just mean the sticky, lol.

what the heck, we could have rung Sky themselves & get them to give us a list of Agents in our area. :D

good to know those guys are running it tho

mind you a quick look on there site @ the SKY+ boxes, this is the one they seem to be using - > http://www.pacemicro.com/corporate/products/productDetails.asp?nav=products&fullid=products_&productID=DSAT-TDS470N
