    Hi

I was sick for 1 month (viral infection) and very run down after.

I decided to get some Vit B12 shots to build up the system a bit.

I got 1000 mcg vials, however I am not sure how often to take them or for how long?

Anyone got any experience with B12 shots?

I have vitamin b12 deficiency, Pernicious anemia.

To start with i was getting an injection twice a week, then every week, then every two weeks, and then every month. Then i was told when the levels were up it would be every three months probably.
However, i stopped going for the injections. (I must start going again but 50 quid every week was killing me)

I got about 8/9 of the injections and i did feel i had a bit more energy after them. I dunno how long you will have to keep taking them. I'd say only the doctor can tell you that. With me it was meant to be forever.

    hi There:

I d be eating pretty healthy, lots of veg, fruit, lean chicken, tons of water etc so in theory all should be well. However I am convinced the sickness I got deplete alot of "good" in me, that needs to be supplemented to build up.

I know my own body, and we all know when something like energy is out of whack a bit.

I also train daily, so I would be putting strong demands on my body.

I m out in Thailand right now, so you can buy 20 shots of 1000 mcg of B12 for about 5 euro! so I am going to get the local nurse to shoot me up a few times a week btwn now and xmas. and maybe for a few weeks in Jan. just to be sure.

I have to get the scope done to find out the reasoning behind why i've got it. Should have got it done months ago but sure.

Was it this infection you got that set it all off yeah?

The prescription here is cheap too, it's getting the doctor or nurse to inject it thats the pain.

When you go back to the nurse she should be able to tell you from the blood tests etc how long and often you need to get them. After a few they do more blood tests to see if its improving etc.

Energy was the big thing with me. I had zero. If someone takled to me i could have cried because i was too tired to answer them. That did improve with the injections, the shakiness didn't.

    Millionaire,

Why no red meat ???? , don,t understand why this is not in diet, also maybe Vit C for your health , take 3 Gms aurally three times a day.

Know your system can metabolize 10 Gms of Vit C intraveniously, do you know what the Vit B Max is ????

    .

I am 100% convinced. I had a little open wound on my foot, it was raining season and all the streets were under 1 - 2 feet of water of 2 weeks.

Long story short, dirty flood water, from backed up sewers got into wound, I had a raging fever for 4 days from shaking with the cold to burning up so bad, I was seeing visions in the bed room of big scary dudes, and me jumping up to hit them I was. I was too stubborn to go to hospital, but my left shin turned black, so I went to doc, said I had viral infection, and cell infection in leg, which could turn to gangerene, and he would not undertsand why I did not have blood poisioning as well!!!

So on drip of anti biotics daily for a week , and pills for a month. but the anti bios wreck you too. so was sick for a month, and weak as water for another month.

So defo vitamin and all had to be wiped out after that. I am only starting to feel right now, and i came down with that end of september!!

So I am going to take all the Vits I can for a month or so.

    Sounds nasty.

I only found out i had it because i get blood tests for feeling tired all the time. Nothing like yourself.

No wonder your drained after all that.

I asked about taking vitamin b12 in tablet form but no good because i can't absorb it or something so it has to be given into the muscle. (sometimes was the butt, sometimes the arm, the joys of it!). Doctor also told me to get centrum. I did but now taking multivitamin, fibre, vitamin c and iron.

I think my blood was rechecked after the first month. I know i got it checked three times after all those injections and the levels were still drastically low. Hense the scope wanting to be done.

Make sure ye ask when you go back for the next one and good luck.

Are you able to buy the injection urself for self injection? or do you need a prescription? i wouldnt fancy paying €50 for something i could do myself

When she started giving me them in the arm i asked could i not just do it myself if she showed me exactly what to do and she told me no. Be interested to know if anyone else that gets those injections are allowed to do it themslves, might try another doctor. Someone i know also has the Pernicious anemia and told me it can be fatal if you dont get your injections, probably bullcrap but i have joined the VHI healthsteps so will get about half of it back. Maybe another doctor/nurse would teach someone to do it themselves.

I can get it over counter and self inject if I want to, but I prefer to get a nurse to do it, as its intermuscular...so butt is best.

I was diagnosed with Pernicious Anemaia a few weeks ago, had the scope, scans, blood tests etc, I was told that once my B12 is up a bit one injection every three months for life would be good enough, I'm lucky though my sis is a nurse so she showed me how to give myself injections..scary at first but you get used to it..and you dont have to pay the doctor for the privilege!!
