I wan't to get into airsoft, and i've been oggling the AEGs for about a year. So here's the big dilemma, do i go all out and spend the cash on something amazing and amazingly pricey or be a bit more conservative and keep the the piggy bank intact? Plus any suggestions on what to buy? cheers

Id go for something abit cheaper at first, you shouldnt waste loads on money on a fancy gun unless you've had a decent bit of airsofting experience.
Id reccomend Tokyo Marui for a beginner.
their guns are generally easy to use and dont break too often.

As for gun its up to you, I myself own a H&K G36C, its nice and sturdy and has served me well.
It might be an idea to go to your local airsofting area, and give it a go. Maybe ask to try out some guns to help you decide.
    Good luck in your quest!:D

Ya you cant go wrong with tokyo marui. But if ya wanna save some money and still have a very good quality AEG then have a look at the chinease clone AEG's over on www.gunnerairsoft.com Their excellent value ;) .
    wereabouts ya living anyway?

I'd say play a game of paintball first. If you enjoy that, then chances are you'll enjoy airsoft. Especially if you like playing it with replica guns!

So if you enjoy paintball and think you'll make the effort to play airsoft, then I'd say invest in an inexpensive AEG, and not just a pistol. Because with the price of shipping, you could get an extra gun for that! So rather than buy a sh*t one and then have to get a good one soon after, it might be worth the gamble getting the moderately good one.

    Up to you though!

when a lot of people say "for my first gun, should i buy something fancy and expensive or go for something cheaper? Tokyo Marui fits into the "expensive" catagory. not the cheap one! (cheap maybe compared to CA guns and some others, but for a beginner, TM is still pretty up there price wise)
so if you suggest someone go for a cheaper model, they might end up buying a CYMA or something.

if you've been oogling aegs for that long, then i think you more then likely are going to like one. no point in trying out paintball or anything first. just jump in the deep end and make a purchase. you will not be disappointed i guarantee!

splash out and buy a Tokyo Marui for your first gun. UTG and some other companies are making progress, but they're still not near the Marui standard. they have high lemon rates, will break out and need replacement parts pretty soon and probabaly wont put up with a lot of abuse.those cheap clones would be good for a second or third (!) gun perhaps, but i wouldnt for a primary.

as ive said about a billion times already, check out www.ehobbyasia.com

cheapest Marui guns by far. some excellent stuff there too.

thanks for the info, think i'll splash out. if ur going to do something you should do it right! but whats the deal with PAYPAL, never used it before hard/easy to setup or use? i've got got doubts about ordering from outside the EU, i'd rather order from the UK but they seem to be the dearest????

paypal is simple to setup. as far as online buying goes, its an absolutely brilliant tool.
ehobby are excellent. you should have no worries about ordering from them. three of us here have bought from them that i know of, and none of us have had a problem.

as far as price wise, there is a massive difference between them and UK sites, ie; Wolf armouries.

my Famas would have come to about 350+ on wolf with everything needed.

only came to 260 with ehobby. which included postage from china. and to top it off, i got my order in about a week :D

we should have a site to start playing on soon on Meath. where abouts do you live? must come along to a skirmish as soon as you get your gun :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Any idea what gun your going get? If yer going 4 a Tokyo Marui just get what ever 1 looks best to you as their isnt a big difference in performance between em.

Well it says Checkeslovakia for his location details, so he would want to be fairly dedicated to travel to meath just for a skirmish :D

a couple of the newer Maruis seem to be shooting a bit faster. m14 280fps and the type 89 295fps. but yeah, the rest seem to be between 260fps and 275

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

*pistolwhips Oisin* we cant be comparing type 89's and sexy m14's to other AEG's pfftt

i was thinking of getting an m4, specifically the Colt M4 S System RIS TM, its at

    http://www.wolfarmouries.co.uk/airsoft/bb/product.asp?page=product&id=TMM4SYS

but i'm being strangly attracted to a Sig 552,
by the way im from meath so skirmishing won't be a much of a problem,
I hope to have a one of the above and a pistol by christmas

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Well as stated by my "marketing companion" Ehobby is the best place to get Tokyo Marui guns, heres the s-system http://cgi.ebay.com/Marui-M4-S-System-SIR-Airsoft-Electric-Rifle-AEG-Gun_W0QQitemZ270041320318QQihZ017QQcategoryZ64635QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
The sig552/basic m4 are about $100 or so cheaper again which is great value.
Sig 552 looks class ;) good luck with your dilemma its always hard choosing between em all.

    s system on wolf - 260 pounds = €383
    s system on ehobby - 319 dollars = €249

you'd be mad to buy from wolf

The good fellows over at www.airsoftireland.com have a forum section dedicated to selling guns. Generally theres some nice equipment on there.
Also if you ask im sure they'd let ya tr before ya buy.

I'd beg to differ on that.
While it's true, you may not notice a big difference initially, the latter gearboxes are obviously the better ones.

G36c's use gearbox 6, as are the new P90s (I believe).
The older the gearbox the less reliable they are. Gearbox 2 have had some really foul problems after a few goes. If you're thinking you may upgrade they are also more difficult and less robust to upgrade.

But yes, in general, what ever you want. I love the SIG-552 and have been thinking of getting that myself, despite my G36c (which I love dearly).

It's tough, cause there are so many nice guns :D

Ah a fellow SIG enthusist. I am also planning on the 552. Got a cheap one from salou 50e last year and love the idea of the folding stock:D

Hes only reffering to the price difference realy [which id tend to agree is extremely important] but wolf armouries do have a great reputation id just find it hard to buy from em when i see the prices and service on Ehobbyasia ;) Their mightened be a g36k on ehobby though [they have some g36 though im sure] as the only bad thing about the shop is the selection isnt as large as it could be.

oh dont get me wrong, wolf are great guys. their selection is amazing. their postage and communication is excellent as well. i was very happy with my purchases from them.

simple fact though, most things they sell you can get somewhere else cheaper. when compared to chinese sites, a LOT cheaper

Assuming an AEG does get stopped by customs and doesn't go straight through what do I do? or is there anything I can do before it arrives? Can you simply pay the duty when it arrives and it will be sent on? How to pay? Any possible problems? etc. etc. etc. Not exactly one last question but any info would be great! thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭johnser

If your AEG gets caught for Import Tax and the like, when the courier / postman goes to deliver he will tell you how much is needed when he is at your door.

If you dont have the cash, he will take it with him and it will be able from the sorting office the next day. just arrive with said cash and you can take it away. They wont let you have it unless you pay the duty.

Take the Dart at Bray station, then get off at Tara Street or Connolly stations. From there it's a short trip on the LUAS to Tallaght. For Liffey Valley, there is a decent bus service to it from the city centre.

    Journey time = 75 - 90 minutes.

Oisin, if there a skirmish in Tallagh you can have a seat in my car as opposed to using homosexual public transport.

cough cough cough, i think you need some calpol oisin or go see the doctor if not for a cold then for an addiction to ehobby. Thanks for all the help, i was just having too many problems getting onto ebay.
I just ordered a Sig 552 with red/green dot scope, foregrip, extra mag, some ammo and a silencer. I'm going to chew my own arm off just waiting for it. My left arm obviously, so i can still shoot with my right. I got it off UNCompany which is still a lot cheaper than most websites.
Again thanks for all the tips, as soon as i can hit a barn door i'll be ready to skirmish.
