just wondering what the reaction would be to this. a new poster on the forum, Hawkerhunter mentioned a paintball site opening at the end of the month in Ashbourne. he says that if we're interested, he should be able to get it to be used for airsoft.

no trees, all barrels, forts, bunkers, and inflatables,

sounds like it a speedball site. although the mention of forts and bunkers does mean it has some kind of airsoft potential.

would anyone be interested in giving it a go maybe? or even just heading up to check it out? this is still all up in the air by the way, i'm just trying to see if there's enough interest to maybe persue it further

i dont know much about speedball but it defentetly sounds like a typical speedball court. how big is it? and buy "bunkers" do ya mean inflatable pillars or what are they?
Id play anywere at this stage as long as some1 in dublin has a look 1st and lets me know what its like before i make the journey

well he said all barrels, forts, bunkers, and inflatables,

so i take it that the barrels, forts and bunkers are actually physical objects and not inflatable.

yeah i'd pretty much play anywhere at this point. i'm getting sick of waiting.

i asked him how big the area was. i'll post up the details as soon as i get them.

sure man its in Meath, only a couple of counties over from ya! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Meath ehh, well that makes a slight difference.
I hope im wrong but i dont think bunkers etc in paintball or physical objects at all :(

well look at it this way. its a field for us to shoot at each other in! that in itself has got to be worth doing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

id make the jourey if enough of us head down anyway. At least id get to see that machine pistol of yours *giggles with excitement* though i dont think my camo would blend in very well with the inflatable red bunkers lol

The site is only 15 mins from the M50 on a good day because of the new by-pass. It is a great site and it would suite airsofters proper. The site is speedball and an urban setting. The speedball course (inflatables) will only be for paintball as far as i know, and the rest of the course, the barrells, bridges, hunts, bunkers could be used for both if there were going to do paintball. But

In an airsoft skirmish, what are the costs in volved? Do some neeed co2, pellets, power, marshals etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭N.O.I.P.

I would imagine that the only thing we would need the site to supply would be marshals as most people would bring their own consumables, then again I plan on using 2 AEGs on full auto all day so it wouldn't hurt if they had a healthy supply of BBs :D

It sounds very promising. I'd check it out when it opens.
Haven't played CQB/FIBUA/MOUT yet. Well, not properly anyway.

    We would need marshalls alright.
If we could buy BB's and gas (green and 134) that would be perfect!

Cheers for cleering that up Richie, sounds very promising now :D

all that's really needed on the sites behalf are marshals. although if its a small enough group the first time, i'm sure everyone would take their hits and we might be able to do without. deff for big games though.

hopefully everyone will have a stock of any consumables they need so that shouldn't be a problem. i for one need bbs. if there's a potential skirmish in the near future, i think i'll be purchasing a bulk lot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Ya their will probably be a small group the first time and we'll spend so long playin with each others guns before the skirmish [id say we could make do without marshalls if their isnt 2 many players. Any ideas when this is likely to happen?

well, i'm gonna ring that guy pretty soon. (cant tonight i'm afraid as i'm going out in about an hour)
i'll see what he has to say about it and get back to you all.
i'd love to get up there as soon as i can. even just to take a look around and check it out. maybe have a small game and see if the place works.

cool, id be up for that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 993 ✭✭✭ditpaintball

how many shots do you think you would go through in a game? what kind of games would you play....capture the flag etc?

The guys up there would certainly look into the possibility of having it alright, depending on insurance and all that kind of thing.

What safety equipment are you ment to ware? A mask or safety glasses?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Both Protective goggles or masks can be used [its personal preference between players] And as for how much ammo one would go through that could be anything but they are cheapER than chips and bought in bags of 3500 or their abouts.
Gameplay wise well i think the standard paintball woodsball type games would be fine [cap the flag and those defend the fort/village types and the like, anything realy]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 993 ✭✭✭ditpaintball

ah rite. so you would be fairly milling through the ammo then. These goggles or masks would be specially designed for airsoft use and all that?
what about the bb's after they are fired - are they just left on the ground?

you can get special ballistic glasses and things, but any decent goggles will work. as long as you put some form of defogging thing on them.

the only major protection you need is goggles. no site will let you play with out them. other protection is up to yourself however. i plan on wearing a balaclava and a shemagh around my neck. bb impacts are a lot less painful and dangerous then paintballs.obviously due to their size. all you really get is a slight sting.

you can get bbs that are biodegradable and non biodegradable. i'm not too up on the subject myself. (due to the fact i can just sweep them up in my back garden) i've heard that Excel bbs claim to be but they are not.

i'm not sure if airsoft sites push the issue of biodegradeability. i'm presuming airsoft specific ones dont. paintball sites on the other hand might be a different story.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

Alot of people would be milling through the ammo id say, Alot of paintball masks are fine for airsoft aswell but their are many types which are designed for airsoft andfairly inexpensive but perfectly safe ofcourse like meshmasks and the like, and ya the goggles need 2 be proper ballistics goggles again not 2 expensive 20$ or so.
You can get bio-degradable BB's [more expensive then regulars and less of a variety in weights] But i realy dont how long it takes for them 2 degrade. The common BB's are said to be biodegradable 2 but from what ive heard we will probably degrade faster then em.
Being the tiny size they are though they wouldnt be as noticable as .68 paintballs. My tiny garden must have close to a 1000 in a small 10 foot area and they are realy hard to find ;)

Ackk oisin got 2 the trigger before me :o

we wouldn't necessarily be milling through ammo. that's a player specific thing i suppose! you can get low cap magazines for ultra realism that only hold about 30 bbs. personally at the moment i have 60 round and a 300 round magazines. i dont plan on hosing anyone!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 993 ✭✭✭ditpaintball

keep her on topic there lads.

So in a game, how effective are marshals? it would be easy for them to miss it when some one gets hit no?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

based on honosty realy .i get hit i say hit and raise my gun. Marshalls coudnt be expected to see much atall [they might here the odd ouch from some1 and the person in question shouldnt need a marshall to call em out.

it mainly rely's on sportsmanship, marshals just their to make sure fights dont start? ;p.
Seriously tho i dont think mashals in airsoft should be thier to look for the hits just to keep the peace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,065 ✭✭✭✭o1s1n

basically if people don't call their hits, the game wont work and they might as well go home. it all comes down to honesty.

marshals could be informed if someone wasnt playing properly. but in a small knit group i doubt this is going to happen much.

most of the time (so ive been told) people not taking hits is basically just down to them not feeling the hit. sometimes you can mistake it for say, hitting off a tree branch, or wood cracking under your feet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

if you complain to a marshal then they can shoot a few shots at the person and see if they take the hits

I have a Double Eagle SIG552 AEG and a cheap S&W style gas non blow back. I also have a few spring guns, Glock, Beretta, Walther P99 a H&K P229 amongst them. Am ordering a host of stuff from EHobbey as soon as I get the funds together including a TM SIG552.

Looking forward to possibly meeting you all.

    ah i doubt that'll happen.

i sure as hell hope not! they have quite a few things i want to buy. wont be able to till i get a summer job though.

    ...

or when my next college grant comes in!!!! :D
    *cough type 89 cough*
if the government ban them and try and take them away from me, i can just explain that they bought them in the first place

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭[--SC(+)PE--]

The price wont go up dont worry bout that, my shoty went down slightly since i bought her
Type 89 0isin hmm u realy are looking for some kinda long rifle arent ya [m14 ,t89,g3's ] tis a similar enough list ive been loking at for my DM rifle ;)
Hopefully ill get the china m14 around christmas and be able 2 tell ya how good it is ,or better yet you can tell me from being on the recieving end if all goes well with this new site :p

yeah long rifles are my fav. my Famas might not look long, but she is on the inside ;)

I'm more of an accuracy man myself. i want the best i can possibly get. i used to be more into a single shot bolt action. but now i like the idea of having something i can be accurate with, but still run and shoot at the same time.

plus i have a feeling a long barreled gun will be a necessity in larger outdoor areas.

i cant wait to hear how that china m14 goes for you! i really hope it works out. if it does, it means i wont have to decide between a Marui type 89 and Marui a m14! (no way in hell could i afford both)
