Driving on M1 this afternoon just before balbriggan exit and a motor bike passed me at about 160kmh followed 8 seconds later by what turned out to be unmarked red jeep at about 140kmh with lights in grill. Motorbike actually pulled in which surprised me. Cop looked delighted ! Also saw another unmarked car on M50 just after Dundrum exit. Bit of an eye opener.
The M50/M1 are constantly frequented with unmarked Garda vehicles (beige and blue Subaru Forresters, a Subaru Impreza, a red Mondeo ST3000, a fleet of 'ordinary' Mondeos, a few Lagunas and a litany of Toyota Camry's). My favorite are the unmarked motorcycles - Gardai in one piece black leathers (given away by the compulsary diagonal reflective strip). ;)

In the US I saw in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois they have signs indicating that if you hit a roadworker you will be put in jail and receive a large fine.
