ANyone got an estimated sim free price on launch for the N95. See nothing on expansys.
This site estimates it at €550 sim free which seems v. cheap..
Any concrete pricing & ship date announced yet?

Seems about right. While that may seem cheap for that spec now, bear in mind this isn't due for another year nearly. I suspect it will be similarly priced to the N80 and N91 on release. About 650 or so on expansys.

Was in my Nokia Center today getting a phone flashed, and we were talking about it. She said Summer 2007.

I dunno what you're using but I've used it on the N91, N70 and now N80, and while not as fast as a normal phone, it's certainly not slow. Are you leaving things open by mistake? A friend of mine was complaining about slowness and he had about 10 apps running in the background.

My E61 would have to disagree with your speed assumptions..
Best symbian device I've used to date. I wouldn't call it slow at all.

Has made my palm & wce devices redundant.

I agree with chrislad that symbians multitasking ablilities can cause it to get sluggish if you leave apps open.
But I'd take decent multitasking over palm/windows anyday.
    Roll on N95

I had an XDA Mini S running Windows Mobile. Now THAT was slow. And buggy as hell.

scopoo would already like to pre-order 6 N95's, unfortunately he's on the wrong forum. May I suggest posting on adverts.ie?

    or possibly www.dontselltonigeria.com ? :D

I've heard Q1 2007 for the launch. I'd expect it to be priced a little above what the N91 is priced at given the 5MP camera and GPS etc.

Komplett have them to order for €549 with an estmated delivery time of 45 days. It looks like they will be released in middle of February.

Looks like quite a phone for sure, ive been using Sony Ericsson now for a few years as i lost faith in Nokia, ill wait to see what the reviews are like before i decide to purchase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

Last week the price on Komplett was €1299! Obviously a mis-print but it was mad to see this price listed for a phone.
Now that the price has been rectifed to reflect the std list price expected, has anyone put in an order on Komplett?? I may skip my N73 plans and go straight for the N95! I wonder will x-series work on N95 when it comes out on three?

Yeah I couldnt believe it today when I seen the price had dropped 700 quid! I wonder is the 550 a mistake because it seems very cheap for a phone of this calibre.

Well even if its a mis-print if you order now at that price they would have to sell it at that price to you when it comes out. I am very, very tempted......;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

i've read the €550 price point elsewhere recently (can't find it now, sorry) so I don't think it's a mis-print.

i'm just wondering what GPS software will come with the N95.

I have nav4all on the g/f's N80 (and briefly on my 6230i to test it) at the moment and it's okay at a push as long as you don't use it constantly. it uses an online map repository to download map data so it's not ideal for long journeys as it will cost a bundle in gprs/3g data if you aren't careful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

The €1299 was a misprint. The €550 is the correct est retail price.

advertised price is only a treaty to buy....

you are not entitled to it at the misprice, altho they may honnor the sale, as they made the mistake.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭4Xcut

They must sell at the advertised price, be it incorrect or not. However, if they do not wish to sell at this price they can withdraw the item from sale and relist it at a later time. Also if the order was taken, then they deffinatly have to sell for this price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

At the end of the day €550 is enough for it at the rate mobile technology is progressing and prices of component parts dropping etc.
Lets be realistic here  :D

Well the N93 is a similar model(although 3.2 MP and without the GPS) and that is currently about €750 sim free in shops. Saw a price list in the telephone centre last week, so expect it to be more than that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

Its £349 stg on the Komplett uk site, so if its a mistake.. its a pretty big one.

So did anyone pony up and pre order from komplett or wha'??

    Considering doing so tonite....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

Thats 45 working days approx so realistically 2 months... just spoke with komplett. stocked at supplier specifically means: you order, they then call Nokia and place an order... so basically whenever Nokia wants to ship it...... so it could be later still.

But she reassured me you can always cancel your order if you see it somewhere else first....

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,331 ✭✭✭Splinter

did ya order it? im gonna hold off til its released then order one, wanna make sure the first batch dont go dodgy as per usual...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

I'll order it today I think. First batch will be of course be dodgy. Nothing some firmware won't fix I hope. If hardware is dodgy then its back to finland.
    12 mts warranty etc etc.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,331 ✭✭✭Splinter

question...if i order from komplett and goes dodgy can i bring it to a nokia repair center like irish telephone center on nassau st or do i have to go back through the supplier?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

Please. someone correct me if I'm wrong but I always assumed that Nassau Sts Nokia was the Irish official Nokia (shoppy-outlet whatever) so buying a sim free Nokia model you should be able to deal with them directly? Komplett are only a reseller not the manufacturer etc... THats what I kinda assumed...Am I talkin ****e here?

well anytime i had a problem with my phone when i got them from vodafone i just went through there...but id like the official line...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

just read the N95 is going to have a 950mA battery... possibly a battery vampire then especially with GPS and wifi.... any thoughts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭quintron

Q2: N95 has HSDPA chip. Does this mean that the chip will automatically revert to 3G if HSDPA is not available? Basically by virtue of it being a HSDPA chip, does it automatically support standard 3G signals? No point getting a sim free phone if data will not be supported by present irish network limitations..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 415 ✭✭dec2000

yeh I'm very interested in this aswell - even after the launch of the Iphone, this looks far superior on all fronts. the only disappointment for me is that its only 160Mb internal memory and upgrade to 2gb, which is not alot if you plan on taking pics with the camera, while having Mp3's to listen to...

There is a good review from the MoblePirates on YouTube, I;ve yet to see a bad word about it

€550 isnt alot for this type of phone, but at the same time, its not something you want to spend alot on and a newer shiney model arrives. Anyone know if any other manufacturers have anything planned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

I have an N80 which has a 950mA battery and if you leave the wifi & 3g on and the nokia wlan wizard running it'll last less than 24 hours with no use, but with wifi & 3g off it lasts 3-4 days with light use. unfortunately, there's no simple way to turn off wifi completely, you have to go into the advanced settings and reduce the radio to 4mW (from 100mW) and then disable the wlan wizard. then you have to reverse the procedure if you want to use wifi again. 3g is a little easier to turn off and on, but still there's not much point in having it if you aren't going to use it.

the good news is, that with the wifi it's simple to update the firmware wirelessly with a couple of button presses on the phone which it will do painlessly with nothing more than a reboot without messing with your settings.
