It's going to be in the Victoria Club or New Vic as its now called. I'm not involved and I don't know when it will be open but I know who is running it and its not likely I will ever set foot in the place.

Nicky is there anything being run on a weekly basis in Limerick? I play online a little, but have only ever played live once.

PokerEvents have a weekly game in the Greenhills $80 + $20 double-chance freezeout. They have a decent enough structure and have dealers. Theres usually about thirty players. Be aware though that a lot of the prizemoney is given out in tickets to bigger games

They have also started weekly pub games in a number of venues around Limerick which I think are $25 plus one rebuy, self-deal. check out their website for details.

I think there is some weekly game in the Hurlers as well but I have no details on that.

There was a young man from the Fitz,
who got such a pain in his T*ts
with bad beats from the heavens
so he pushed with 2, 7
and the guy that he dogged was in bits.

There is an ol guy called the Chief ,
who plays poker as though he's a thief,
he's not scared of all Ins,
    as regardless he wins
with bad hands, bad calls, and good grief..

There was an Emporium in town,
where to win you must play like a clown,
    even when cardless,
    they will push in regardless,
to take the 50-100 blinds down.

That would be savage. Why do ye always complain about bad players and bad beats.... just play like a safe and then cut them down?

Any news on when the casino in the Vic is opening yet? The rumour mill had it opening around now and, as I haven't been out in Greenhills for a few weeks I might have missed some some gossip

    I heard Thursday.

    Hi StraddleFor6

Is this the cardroom supposed to be opening in the New Vic or the one associated with the Corrib casino in Galway? Either way do you know if this is an official opening date or is it still a rumour?

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,864 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

So the Vic isn't a snooker hall anymore?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 250 ✭✭dingle

From what I heard a few weeks back they are taking out some pool tables, which are in a seperate room, to make the cardroom. I assume the snooker hall will continue on as normal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 250 ✭✭dingle

I just phoned the New Vic and the poker room is definitely opening on Thursday night. They're opening 'unofficially' for a week or so before implementing a regular tournament schedule. I believe the tournament on offer on thursday is a €20 rebuy (I think rebuys/topup is limited to two).

If anyone wants more details, the New Vic's number is 061-314674

    Hey all,

Sorry for not posting sooner...been up the proverbials.

The New Vic Card Club (in the new vic snooker club) opens its doors to the public on Thurs 30th nov. however from Thur 23rd Nov. there will be a week of "preview" tournys. The aim is to get as much feedback as possible with regard to the type of tournys people want to play before putting a definite schedule in place. There will be cash games and sit and gos also available (Texas and Omaha) from Thurs 23rd on.

We have 8 tables and all the usual nick knacks. The Vic will continue to run as a snooker club but all the video games, pool tables, jukebox etc are gone. We are very much trying to set up a club rather than a businessand think that poker players will se and appreciate that if you give us a spin.

Speaking of Nicks and Knacks, I would like to wish anyone else in our neighbouring counties the best of luck with their endeavours and extend a warm welcome if they ever want to call in or bring a team or whatever.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

Oh yes ....no we are not the club that advertised for staff in the leader.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,309 ✭✭✭Vertigo100

"nicks and knacks!" Real subtle john. Anyway back to the poker. Wht time do you reckon the cash games will go on until as i am more of a late night player and would be more interested in the cash games until i can get some free time for the tourneys. Any chance you could PM me with a number i might ring tomo nite around the 3.30am mark to see if there is any action?

    lol, that's just lovely.

If you're managing the poker room John I'd be more happy to pop in and best of luck with it. I know you would do a good job.

I do have concerns about your asssociate however, since the list of people still owed money from his last venture in Limerick is as long was the wall of china.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 116 ✭✭john@thenewvic

    lol nicky...fair comment.

New club, new people and hopefully good times for all.

The cash games are expected to last quite late. We are staffed up untill 7am at least. Large pots of coffee already in place.

Feel free to contact me anytime on 086 3997584.

In fairness Nicky it wasnt his fault it happened, and it went on behind his back. I know ye have had differences over other stuff but when he found out he did what he could to fix it.

Actually none of the above is true at all in my opinion, but I am delighted there is a new venue in Limerick and I am glad someone like John is involved.

Right we all had different opinions of the last venue that we played poker in but now we have a new spot and its only fair that it is given a fair chance no matter what personal differences or experiances we had previously. Besides that i am looking forward to it and ill prob be up tomo nite with a few lads at about 4ish so ill ring the number you left john. Poker is Back im lmerick at last

You're some mess John. Is Pip dealing tonight? You'll have to provide some sort of ear muffs on the way in if he is. God he talks too much.

Hey... Is there any chance that there might be a table for 7-card stud at this... I love the game but it doesn't seem too popular, mates always go with hold'em... it'd be nice to get a live game?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭fl&sh

might be a good idea to start posting more cash and tourney info,as you get them,on your web site,if you haven't got one, posting your mobile no. could come back to bite you in the ass.hope to make it in a bit more often than i played in the cold club.lol
best of luck with it anyway

    Hi John,

Enjoyed the night last night. The room is a bit rough around the edges at the moment but once ye finish the decorating it should be nice. There was a good crowd, hopefully that continues and even improves once ye start advertising properly. Chips, chairs , tables etc were of a good standard. Dealers were professional and seemed experienced.

The one quibble I would have, and its a fairly major one, is the structure was very bad. The basic structure should be at least 20 min blinds with all levels (75/150 and 150/300) included. This structure should also be extended for the bigger buyin events. Also, once your up and running properly, starting the tourneys at the advertised time is important (I know in the first few days or so it's very difficult to do this with all the extra admin stuff and little teething problems)

Any idea what tourney your going to run on the official opening next week?

Best of luck with the venture.

Was in the new vic club last night and appart from the obvious stuff like throwing up a few photos i thought i thought it rocked. Loads of room, and well cool when they turned off the main lights. It was like TV. All the tables have their own set of lights nice and tight to the table if you know what i mean. I asked about the 15 min thing and i was told its just for 1st week by the way. All in all i thought it was well good.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 250 ✭✭dingle

PokerBillyJoe, I agree the room is good, and once they finish the decorating as they said, it'll be really good. The only problem I had was the blind structure and if they're sorting that next week then I look forward to playing there for hopefully a long time to come.

Looking forward to seeing what tournaments they are going to run. Must call in again next week and suggest what tourneys I'd like to see there. From what they said on Thursday they seem open to feedback and suggestions.
