    Hello all,

Jus recently started going the gym to maintain fitness over the winter period when im not playing as much sport. I'm looking to build a bit a muscle too ;)

Anyway, i was wondering, What product/food should i eat directly before and after training?
    What should i drink?

And also, is it a good idea to go into the sauna before/after a workout?

    Hey RoadSweeper,

For after training, you need to take in something high in protein if you want to gain muscle mass. You could eat a tin of tuna or a chicken fillet or supplement with a whey protein shake. Protein supplementing is convenient and effective but not necessary if you are willing to prepare your food the night before.

Before training, it is advisable to eat about an hour to an hour and a half before training. An nearer to training and you will get cramps etc.

In terms of what to drink, you should drink plenty of water - before, during, and after training to keep yourself hydrated.

I would avoid going into the sauna before training as this will dehydrate you and generally make you tired, which is the last thing you need. After training, going into the sauna is all good - jst drink plenty of water.
