Heads up NutritionX fans, 2 new products by NutritionX - Recovery Accelerator Matrix (R.A.M) and Xcellerate.

R.A.M is a complete recovery fomula combining the optimum 2:1 ratio of carbs to proteins with added electrolytes, Arginine and glutamine AKG. I tried the orange flavour and it tastes great

Xcellerate is a complete endurance shake with a 4:1 carbohydrate matrix with added electrolytes. I can say the Lemon and Lime is class.

Both are on sale in Pro-Nutrition Phibsboro!

Hey I went into Mick in the supplement store and he reccommend N-large 2 to help with bulking and to use as a recovery drink. I am just using it after weight sessions and physical training (rugby) sessions.

I have been using it for the past month roughly and have been finding it good I have added a few kgs anyway, as I have only really started heavily on the weights this year (although I am twenty) I am not sure whether my gains have been due to the supplement or just that I have started training.

Sorry if I'm kinda hijacking the thread here, I basically am asking should I keep with the N-Large 2 or switch over to R.A.M to use for recovery?

    regards
    Luke

Firstly if its working for you - don't change it.

There is a big difference in the N-Large2 and R.A.M. NLarge is a weight gainer with 52g of protein to 86g of carbs - 28g of which are sugars and 5g of fat per serving.

R.A.M on the other hand is a specifically designed recovery formula with the right 2:1 carbs to protein combination. 30g of whey and 60g of simple carbs.
After your work out it's simple carbs that your body needs, along with electrolytes and glutamine AKG and Arginine AKG to reduce muscle stress and replace water.
The fats in N-Large may work against rapid absorbtion of the nutrients also. Mick knows his stuff and im sure he's probably using N-Large himself.

A chap I know from the gym Jon who is also a dietician was telling me the average persons body cannot absorbe anymore than 40g of protein every 2 hours. Granted some can but most cant. Any point so in having products that give you over 50g of protein a serving?

    Or is it even true?

Ideally after a heavy workout you should take in 25% of your daily protein requirement - for me, and I'm tiny by the way, it amounts to 42g of protein and I'm only taking in 2200 cals at the moment. If I was a bigger guy say 180-200 lbs and looking to get larger I'd easily be taking in over 55g of protein.

Your dietician friend isn;t wrong per say - a normal person (not that I've ever met one at 2500 cals, (the normal recomendation) wouldn't need take in over 50g protein - but people engaged in weight training, sports etc aren't part of a noraml classification.

As a sports nutitionist and trainer I frequently will design porgrams that require in excess of 50g protein during certain meals - but the important thing is that they are catered for the individual - generalisation are just that general - and usually worthless.

Ask yourself not so much what the "normal" person needs - but what do YOU need. :D If the answer works out at over 50g of protein during a meal then take it. :)

I've heard that, thats why R.A.M only has 30g :D

If I recall my Leaving Cert Biology correctly there is a point at which nutrients reach saturation and will stop being absorbed into the body. It's like everybody leaving a stadium at once. There comes a point where the exits are all blocked.

The difference being that your body can't queue up the nutrient like people queue leaving a stadium. It just keeps going and eventually gets excreted. In the case of protein you pee it out I think.

I think this was in relation to things like vitamins, but I assume it is the same for protein. After all doesn't your urine get stronger colour and smell when you take on lots of protein? This is the excess being dumped.

Has anyone here used EAS 100% Whey? Just wondering as I bought a 5lb tub for €47 today so curious as to how good it is.

if it is the chocolate flavour you are on to a winner. I actually really like chocolate EAS and mixes really easy, however it has slightly less protein per serving then the other 2

    Hey guys,

I have had the joy of trialing RAM for the last few months and will happily say that it is one of the most impressive supplements I have even used. The first day I used it I was training with a competitive bodybuilder and we were doing legs. It was a very, very punishing session and my quads and hams were actually cramping on me between sets at the end. I was expecting the worst case of DOMS ever….but this was not the case.

I downed my RAM and went off home and ate all day and slept 8 hours that night, the next day when I woke up I very, very gingerly moved my legs, but they felt good. Normally the day after a good leg session for me is torture, the day after that not worth mentioning, so to have RAM cut my DOMS pretty much in half was unreal.

Since starting to use RAM I have made some very substantial gains, that will be backed up by the lacks of T-ha ( who was also trialing and also made some substantail gains ) and G'em who I train with regularly.

All in all, I am putting RAM up there as a must have product. I would strongly recommend it.
