OK I know what she did was a federal offence, but to drag a fourteen year old out of class and without her parents being present is pretty shocking. I've said it before and I'll say it again, 'I don't like the way society is going'.

Doubt this would happen in normal society, only in america as the saying goes. Really is worrying to think how much power this excuse for a country has.

Well I think the point is that in the states it's against the law to threaten the life of the president. Everytime someone makes a threat, the secret service have to investigate. I'd say what really happened was the girl was asked by the agents to leave the class, they asked her a couple of questions and then went on their way. It's just blown out or proportion.

I think even that link in the first post says that's pretty much what happened; it's a complete non-story. She may only be a 14 year old, but she's a 14 year old in a country plagued with the likes of school shootings etc, so of course they have to check these things out.

Actually the sad part is, if she had made threats against her class or teachers, it'd have been ignored until she carried out her threats.

Okay, I don't have a link for this one, it could be BBC but the first article I read on this story said that the secret service had told the child's mother they would be calling to the school and that she had said it was okay to do so.

I personally think that President Bush is a danger to the world but also that any 14 year old who posts something stating that the President should be killed is a prime target for recruitment and grooming for anti-establishment or 'terrorist' activities.

They are impressionable and easily moulded into figures of hate. Therefore they become targets for people who want to use them to their own end (in this case terrorists).

As a result I think that the Secret Service were right to give the little sh*t a scare. I hate saying this but it could be the best thing that ever happened the kid despite the way in which it was done.

At the end of the day it's nothing but a little bit of international "street theater" and that’s about it.

Some kid gets her cage rattled and will now be totally anit war, not really a bad thing. However she may turn into a soft, mellow hippy who does not believe in any kind of physical confrontation which would be a bad thing. Remember, for each person who hates violence there are 10 who are more than happy to punch your teeth out and take whats yours. Just the way it is.

Now then, as it is, the Secret Service have very, very publically dealth with a very small threat in a very big manner. It was even done in a way that gave maximum exposure to the fact that it had occurred. As such, the message is sent. "We look into everything, if we have time to do this, then we have time to find you."

I think that’s pretty plain to see?

Also this is more likely to happen. She could easily kill some pupils in a school, but to get to the president? Now that's a challenge

What the hell is wrong with some of you people? This is a 14 year old KID. She posted something on a webpage without thinking of it in an adult context, she was flippant with her remarks as most kids are prone to do. She is not an adult, so please don't expect her to take it in that context.
She posted something on a webpage and the secret service storm in. I don't see how she would pose a threat to the most powerful man in the world. Some opinions here have been extreme at the least.

Some others are correct in that it is a non-story, but it's alarming to think that you can't be flippant or slightly careless with what you say, in this instance on a website that is primarily used by teenagers, and which is hardly known as a hotbed of terrorist activity or intellectual activity.

We really have become extreme in our own opinions and cold in our view of others.

The killers of Jamie Bolger were 10 when they murdered him, a 15 year old who was 14 when he murdered an 11 year old was sentanced to life in Britain the other day.

If you think that terrorists don't log into chatrooms to recruit kids then you probably don't believe that pedophiles do it either.

Also, don't tell me that you think that a 14 year old endorsing a message of hate is all sweet and innocent!! If her message was something like "White power - kill the n******" then you would probably be among the first to jump on the condemnation bandwagon.

Indeed, have you seen the Jesus Camp clip that was posted on our mirror forum?

The one that shows all the 11 and 12 year olds talking about how they would "die for Christ?". You'd be amazed what you can make a kid believe, and what some people will justify to themselves.

Now then, it's easy to think "sure, it's a website for a 14 year old kid" but it's also important to remember that the website used requires no proof of age, so while the profile might say "14 year old girl" it could also really be a 24 year old man putting up stuff to see who responds and how, and then hit them up with some further information etc.

The simple fact is that from the Secret Service point of view, everything gets looked into, because nothing is as it seems. I imagine that a few years ago everyone getting on to planes looked the same, and people felt completely safe on London buses.

Everything starts somewhere, and whether it was dealt with the right way, or the wrong way at least is was dealt with.

Don;t get me wrong, Bush is a moron, but this particular internet user will be much happier when he is replaced by someone voted in in light of his mistakes, as opposed to replaced by someone sworn in with a grudge in light of his assination.

Just me though.
