No need for a licence. However I would advise trying something other than an inflatable raft.

What kind of boat would you recommend?? (baring in mind I don't have a car)

Maybe a sea kayak - you could tow that behind a bike.
    There are also inflatable kayaks.
You don't seem to know much about the sea. At first you must stay close to shore and remember you should always travel in pairs.

anything you can carry will be too small for the sea. Even an inflatable kayak is pretty big and heavy. If you want to go any distance you'll need some equipment to be safe which also adds to the weight. Your best bet is to check out some of the smaller clubs around as they often can help out with boats.

Please don't use an inflatable raft for the sea, I guarantee you'll end up having to be rescued by the local lifeboat (that's if any ever notices you drifting out to sea).

Join a local club, be it windsurfing, kayaking, small dinghy sailing club or else try and get on the crew of a bigger yacht from either Howth or Malahide and explore the area with experienced locals. Have a look at the ISA website www.sailing.ie for more information.

Yeah I gotta say kayaking sounds like the better option.

I'll check that website out and join one of the clubs :)

    Thanks for the advice!!
