I agree, so I think we could start planning it now. Nicky do you want to do the honours again or would you like a year off. If so, I can take over your mantle this year.

What events do we want and are shorthand or Horse tourneys possible on Stars?
Unfortunately Stars don't allow these yet for Private tournaments, however, I'm sure you'll all be delighted to hear that Russell of Stars Support said "I will however forward a suggestion to our ideas team." So hopefully next year we can incorporate these new games into the schedule. Unless they come back before the end of this years Championship.

OK, so we need to decide on a few things:

    (1) What events do we want. Should we stick to the same events as last time. Link to Final Results

    $10 NLHE,
    $10 LHE,
    $10 PLO,
    $10 PLO8,
    $10 Stud Hi/Lo
    $10 HU matches
    $10 PLHE,
And of course the $20 NLHE Main Event...

    (2) What days and dates will we have them on: Wednesday and Sunday nights over 4 weeks??

    (3) We also need to decide on a point/ scoring system, do we want to stick to the same point system as last time or do we want to go by $$$ won...

    (4) Any suggestions for alterations, additions or subtractions, buy-in amounts etc. etc....

Mods: I posted this in the main forum instead of the Tournaments Section to try and increase the exposure of it. Move if you think it is necessary.

    .

I would go with $ won

I think the Main event should be increased to $50 entry

Ill try and play in this this year.
Ill be on a complete learning curve as I know very little about the other games, but this will be a nice kick up the arse to get into them.

I reckon the buy-ins should be a bit higher as well.... for all.
    20/50 maybe.

Then the main event winner wins the leaderboard.

Would like to enter this but $50 is too much for us poor country boys.

Personally I agree with Laf and Lloyd about the points system, but I'll set up a blog similar to what Nicky did last time and I'll post both, but I think the Points should be the decider.
    LuckyLloyd wrote:
Juicing up the stakes shouldn't really be neccesary. Sure all any self respecting Boardsie would be playing for is pride right? To heartlessly dominate the opposition? No...
This is also a good point IMO too, I also think if we keep the buy-in's at $10 for the side events then more lurkers and casual passer-byers might be enticed to play and other entrants may try out the new games that they might not have played before. It will also keep the total outlay needed for the championship lower for the small stakes players.

After all it's all about the kudos more than the money surely.

We could possibly make the ME $30.

Any other's prefer a Monday/ Wednesday or a Wednesday/ Sunday or some other combination. Possibly we may need a poll at some stage.

Yeah ME could be $30. I think the points could work something like this: points = (Numrunners - position) * buyin

I'd like a Stud high tourney in there and i'd prefer the Omaha Hi/lo to be limit.

Sounds like a great set-up, if there's any help needed organising i'll throw in my tuppence worth.

I'm all for the $50 main event and intend on playing in them all :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

yeah O8 should be limit, and there should be a stud hi, also a razz tourney is needed.

Razz would be funny but I guess if HORSE isn't available as a private tourney that Razz is probably the same. If not i'd be up for this too.

As for points I think something like what has been suggested:
    points = (Numrunners - position)
    with the ME being
    points = (Numrunners - position) * 1.5
but only the top 20% get points (more people than get money but not everyone) and 1st gets a bonus of 5 for all tournaments and second get a bonus of 3 for all tournaments.

Maybe give everyone who plays 2 points as well to encourage people to play all or most games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Ye, sorry I think O8 and Stud Hi/Lo should both be Limit too.

Stud Hi is no problem putting in aswell, Limit again??

    I can't do RAZZ unfortunately.

I like this point system too, I was thinking along these lines:

Points = 2 (for playing) + (Numrunners - position) * (1.5 for ME only). Although I think everyone should get points as it rewards participation in all the events and sufficiently punishes a missed tournament, but not so much that it puts you out of the running.

Although last years System worked pretty well, so maybe there's no need to change it. I'm also not sure about bonus points for winning and coming second. Anyone else have opinions?? Although on the other hand it would reward correct play, as in we're playing to win the tournament and not to creep up the positions... hmmm maybe I do like it after all. I'm open to what ever the majority thinks.

Any other thoughts on Nights to run the tournaments.

if you play every tournament you should get 5 extra points too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Too much hassle for me, so noooooo....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,696 ✭✭✭Hectorjelly

A point system is terrible IMO (at least as it was setup last year), I think its ludicrous that someone who finishs outside the money gets more points than someone who gets knocked out earlier All it does is reward tight boring poker. There are other better ways to reduce the effect of the main event.

edit to add, imposters suggestion is good but the bubble should get nothing

I suppose we could award say 1 point per $ won for the side events, and maybe 0.33 points per $ won in the ME (assuming it's a $30 Buy-In) to even up the effects of the ME.

Or we could award bonus points per $ won.

    Any other suggestions?

Although, I just think there should be something to keep the numbers up for the later events, so interest levels stay high. Although thinking about it, even with points, people will still be out of the running by later in the championship. So either way.... and TBH $$$ is the way Poker players keep score after all.

Possibly award 5 points for playing in an event. Meaning if someone plays all 9 events they'll have at least 45 points. So playing at least has some reward.

How is the WSOP point system worked out. I'd like to just have some system that rewards playing in more events and that keeps interest levels up.

Sunday/Monday are both good, wednesday is a no no.

EUR10 is perfect. Pretty much EVERYone who wants to will be able to afford to play.

Point system sounds good, maybe you can add points for people who place...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 175 ✭✭fiddlesticks

This sounds great, just the right buy-ins aswell which would definitely increase the popularity of it.
Sunday and Monday nights are best for events imo..

Sounds good, it'll give me the kick up the ass I need to bother learning how to play these other games. Sun and wed sounds good. Mon not so much

Monday is a definite no-no for me. Tuesday, wednesday would be good for the second night assuming Sunday is the first night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 345 ✭✭Iceman78

Looking forward to this already. Better get some practice in playing other games as only been playing HE and Omaha lately.

Sunday and Wednesday would be best days for me.

So who is going to get a book running on this??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,602 ✭✭✭patmac

If you were to use a points system something like the moto Grand prix could be used 1st:25 2nd:20 3rd:16 4th:13 5th:11 6th:10 7th:9 8th:8 etc down to 1 point for 15th. If you need help with a spreadsheet I would have no problem helping out.

Steo just do a poll for which days of the week suit people best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

The good thing about a points system is that it encourages people to play bad and tight while I rob all their blinds. If I was being honest the best system would be to rank people on money won.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 402 ✭✭Sparky1808

    Sunday's, Tuesday's, Thursday's ...and I suppose I could make Monday's & Wednesday's suit too.

:) Is there any rough guesses on dates yet?

Ill definitely play in these. I think deuce to seven lowball should be added.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

    EDIT:
OK, I've been thinking about the point system and I think what I'm going to do is award points for playing in an event same as last year.
And then 1 Point for every $ won in the side events and 1/3 of a point for every $ won in the ME. This way the winner of the ME won't automatically be the winner of the Series, it includes the point system some like, and properly rewards finishing in the money.

Does anyone have any major problems or objections to this or is it in anyway flawed, I thought about it, but not very hard?  and this way I think most people are happy.

I'll post up a Poll if I can (never done one before) about the days that suit.

Can't put up a deuce to seven lowball tournament. :(

Shouldn't be too tricky. I hope...

I think it is slightly flawed, in that if someone gets knocked out early with say AA v KK (AIPF and then K on flop) they probably get overly punished compared to someone who just tries to limp up the ladder. But I think it's at least a middle ground.

Full Tilt is over 21's. Does anyone know if they have ways of finding out persons real ages?
Or will simply putting in a fake age and not qualifying into any tournements through them be alright?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

    http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/terms.php

    2. Age and Limitations on Use. You must be at least 18 years of age, or older than 18 years of age in those jurisdictions, territories, and locations where the minimum age for permissible use of the Web Site by you is greater than 18 years old

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

Cheers bohsman, I don't know where I got that 21's from. I could of sworn I went through there t+c's when looking at rakeback from them, maybe im getting confused with Ultimate Bet or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,666 ✭✭✭Imposter

If this goes ahead on FT and people don't already have FT accounts then make sure you get rakeback! Send me a PM for more details (or others can help too i'm sure).

Mods: Sorry if this is on dodgy ground but I think it's good for boardsters to know this before they sign up.

I was talking to Lee Jones very soon after they introduced HORSE when someone suggested private HORSE tournies to him and he said he'd look into it and that was a good while ago, but I can't think of any reason not to have them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

I'm about to PM Cardshark, but can anyone else who e-mailed Stars send me a PM, I'm currently talking to the Affiliate team there about setting up some sort of agreement whereby any new players Stars get as a result of this Championship the referral fees will be used as either Added-Money to Tournaments or Prizes for the overall placings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

OK it wasn't Cardshark, but apparently someone else has been onto Stars about this too and got a response, so before I get back to Stars I just want to know what Stars said to them before I respond to their latest e-mail.

P.S. If anyone hasn't signed up to Stars and intends to do so in order to play in this Championship, if possible, please wait to sign up so we can use these new accounts to add prizes to the championship.

It won't affect any sign-up bonuses etc. you'll be entitled to, all it'll mean is that we can use new accounts as leverage to make Stars *possibly* sponsor some Prizes but at the very least it'll get money added to either the ME, Overall champion, etc. - whatever we decide at a later date.
