Just wanted to let people know and also complain about the pool in Total Fitness in Castleknock. It's disgusting. There is dirt everywhere in it. It only becomes clear when you go to another pool (Crunch - spotless).

    It's a disgrace, i don't know how it's allowed.

    Have you complained to management?

Sweet, its often worth doing. Often times hundreds of people can spot something like that and never mention it to management, while just one person bringing it to there attention could resovle it.

A fair point regarding mentioning it to management and staff.
Unfortunately, based on experience, this will get you nowhere with total fitness.
On 3 separate occasions Ive complained
    a) the smell and obvious dirt in changing rooms
    b) the permanent removal of lights at the end of the pool - making spotting the wall for tumble turns a interesting task
    c) the changing of club opening times. Posters stated 'due to popular demand by members' but over 1000 people later signed a statement indicating the change in times had nothing to do with their wishes.

For the record, my experiences are with the malahide road branch. Maybe complaining in writing the the management and staff at other branches might be more fruitful.
From what I know Total Fitness in Ireland was sold as a franchise about a year ago and the original standards are being neglected by all accounts.

I was in the Malahide branch once and found the same problems. The dirt on the changing room floors is palpable and disgusting in both. I've seen at least two people shaving in the communal sauna and staff seem to turn a blind eye.
In general, the building is old, dead looking and dirty.

When you pay a large amount of money, you expect better service. I will not be renewing my membership with Total Fitness.

A friend of mine is actually a life guard and trainer in Total Fitness, not sure if its whte one with the pool problems, but he could tell you horror stories about how it's kept. As hes often said to me, the only way things will get better is if a member of the public threatens to involve the health and saftey board.

Yeah it's the same in Castleknock, I joined in July and machines that were broken then are still broken. The only benefit of Total Fitness is that it's pretty big and you never have to wait for a machine...but the general filth and shabbiness of the centre sometimes makes it unbearable to enter.

Hi I was in Total Fitness Dun laoighaire on friday (ok Iknow its not the Malahide one)but different place same problem.
Firstly i went in to use the toilet, all were broken and OVERFLOWING,someone had gone into the cubacile and proceeded to use the toilet evn though it was full.Basicly it looked like a toilet that you would find on the 3rd night of Oxeygen. The smell in the changing room is awful. I found what i hoped was mud in the shower. No hot water for the showers.all in all a disgrace.
To be fair the one in town is very good. But at these prices dont think so.

Why are you all putting up with this?
Go to the manager, demand to end your contract NOW/get a refund for the rest of the year.

If the problem is that obvious and management haven't done a thing about it, I wouldn't hold out much hope that they'll do something when one person complains.

We aren't putting up with it anymore.

    - Smell of stagnant water in changing rooms. Absolutely filty set up.
    - Tiles in Steam room were hanging off for months. Very easy to cut yourself on it as the tiles on the seat were falling off.
    - Showers broken for over a week - forcing people to shower in a public area
    - The plunge pool constantly broken and yellow water in it!

I could go on, but I don't want to get petty.

What annoyed us the most was the attitude of the club manager. We are finishing our contracts asap.
He was very unprofessional and dismissive. He tried to tell us that they had to "get special parts in", while the person on the desk said "The office in the UK won't give us the money". It is just not good enough.

I have to back these guys up with the complaints re. Total Fitness.

The place is filthy, and no amount of complaining to management seem's to resolve these issue's.

The one and only reason I use T.F. now is because its almost on my front door and traffic on the N32/M50 makes it almost impossible for me to travel much further.

    Management and staff attitude suck.

I wouldn't recommend anyone join T.F. unless like me your badly stuck for somewhere else.

There is no Total fitness in town or in DunLaoghaire.

Maybe I'm just used to training in less than clean places, but my attitude would be "get over it". I know when I go into the gym I'm there to train. I don't give a flying fck what the changing room's like.

Now if the pools manky I totally understand why people would be peeved, but a dirty (as in not perfectly clean changing room)? Meh.

No shower for a week in Total Fitness .... Get over it!!
Tiles falling off in the Steam room for 5 months .... Get over it!!
Plunge pool out of order .. Get over it!!
Smell of someone elses urine in the shower .. Get over it!!
Don't let me forget to mention the spinning bike that fell apart while I was on it!! The pedal fell off!!

Meanwhile, they put Playstations and free internet access in the lobby!!! (Great usage of club money)

I agree, a gym is for excercise, but it has to be hygenic and safe, and Total Fitness is far from that.
Like you, I just want to go to the gym, but I don't want to leave myself open to injury or un-safe conditions.

They don't look after the place - so it is quite acceptable for people to voice their opinions.
I'd rather pay the extra and go to Westwood.

I don't think the intention was to say ALL TF staff are bad. Infact the ones I've come acroos in Castleknock/Blanch have all actually been quite good.

Agreed, the instructors are probably what keep the members returning.

Dunno about the pool, but it's pretty much faultless otherwise. A really good little (well big) gym.

cool, what are they like with the price is it very negotiable?

we were quoted €505 each and there are 3 of us so I was thinkin could i haggle to €1200 or something? (they offer 10% if you have a card for another place sorry cant remember the name, so there should be some negotiation with it)

Tbh I really don't know... I'll have a look and see when i'm up there if they do discounts for referals. If they do I'll throw your name in for ya?

yeah , I agree with everything was said before about Total Fitness , Malahide Branch. It's unacceptable to charge so many people 55 euros monthly and didn't even care about them , not cleaning the place and being just an assholes about that.

Lol at the above poster dragging up an almost 2 year old thread

I wonder were the issues resolved?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 Paragti

No it's not resolved. I just came back from the gym. It's still the same dirt + sand on the bottom of the pool.

In future DO NOT drag up OLD threads. You have being warned.

I just got a warn for "Dragging up old threads"

What do you mean " DO NOT DRAG UP OLD THREADS" , there is still DIRT on that gym and there is still nobody who do anything about that. Where is the point of opening another thread when this subject is still active. I am about to gather a group of people who thinks the same as me and we will go to the management to report about that. That threat will help me to gather those people.

Your warn was unnecessary , I'm kind of disappointed , that was my first post here, I hope next time I will get a better welcome.

    Thanks
    Mike

Don't worry about it Mike he's just been site banned.

I'm not sure if he was trolling or just an idiot.

I use TF Blanch. It's not exactly spick and span if you examine it closely but I'm from the "not arsed, it has good equipment" camp.

I think it's due a revamp, might be on hold now depending on how much their business is down I suppose.

The last I heard they had been planning on doing a bit of a revamp on the gym floor but they're just gonna be doing the dressing rooms now.
