Try to avoid anything with the word 'Diet' in it tbh. A long-term healthy eating plan that you can implement on a daily basis is going to see you succesfully lose weight better than any fad diet or quick-loss weight scheme.

    Eat 5-6 meals a day.
Figure out what your calorie needs are according to the stickies and use it as a guideline.
Eat plenty of fruit and veg (minimum 5 portions a day)
Avoid processed foods and eat wholefoods wherever possible.
Keep starchy carbs to earlier in the day and taper them towards the evening.
    Drink lots of water.
    Get lots of sleep.
    Move around a lot.
Check the stickies for all the above information and lots more (it even has a shopping list to help you buy the foods you need).

ye I would also advise anything with the word diet in it. cause then idea of most of those diets is that they help you lose some weight however they generally mightn't be what you want to do long term and as soon as you come of them the weight goes back on.

However if you do a bit of trial and errror with what foods work for you to help you lose weight it is generally easier to stick to something like this long term and so you can keep on making those loses in weight.

other then that I would just be repeating what g'em said. Just remember sometimes it is easier to change a few small things at the start and then continue to change stuff over time rather then jumping straight in with a new diet plan and exercise regime as quite often you will get tired of this and quit. So make sure you allow for the occasional cheat as this will help keep you focued as you know you have soemthing to look forward to.

also if going to the gym doesn't work out for you try of think of something else that might interest you that would help keep you active as the gym isn't for everybody but a lot of people think they have to go to the gym to lose weight when they don't they just have to do anything that helps keep them active no matter where it is

    Hey telecaster,

Firstly, calories are the amount of energy that's in a food, while carbs are one of the different types of nutrients you find in food. The other main nutrients are fats and protein. Protein, fats and carbs all have energy (calories) in them - so it's possible to have a diet that is low calorie AND low carb.

The main thing is to drop the amount of calories you eat below what you need so your body has to eat itself for energy (lose weight). It takes a bit of working out initially but it's worth the hassle.

Use the forum stickies like the guys said & you should be able to work through it.

I count my calories, but I am not on any fixed diet (as in particular foods each day).
If you calorie count you should get a decent digital scales to get correct portions. Eating 6 equally calorie sized, equally timed apart meals will help greatly, it increases your metabolism and means you never go hungry and never get stuffed. This means your stomach will shrink due to the lack of massive meals in one sitting, so you get fuller quicker. Your next meal is never far away so you can resist snacking easier. When I was eating like a pig my stomach would grumble all the time, it never does anymore.

When calorie counting you naturally end up eating healthier foods as you compare things. e.g. you think, will I have a 250kcal chocolate bar for lunch or 2 spicy chicken fillets. It makes you realise where you are getting excess calories from in your diet, some may surprise you, i.e. how high and how low things are. The bun on a quarter pounder can have the same calories as the actual burger. A pack of standard supernoodles has the same calories as about 4-5 chicken fillets!
