training too hard?

I've been going to the gym for the last month now, 2-3 times a week. I spend between 40 mins to an hour there. I only started doing cardio again when I went back to the gym, I do between 10 and 15 mins on either rowing, ski or bike machine, in 5 min parts. I also use weights and try to target every major muscle group.

The problem is; When I finish I usually feel like crap. I feel light headed or have a bit of a headache, and I sometimes feel if I went for any longer I would throw up, although I didn't get that today.

I'm not expecting to have achieved a six pack in a month, but I don't feel like I'm making any gains in that I haven't found cardio any easier since I first started back. I was lifting weights for 6 weeks previous to this and felt much better after a session.

Is it something I have to work past or am I pushing too hard too soon?

Well for this we really need to know are you suplimenting your workout with a good diet? If your training like this your not going to feel good if your swallowing snack boxes on a regular basis.

whats your diet, daily pattern and we can advise more. Your exercise routine doesn't seem too hard so give us more info and also tell us about you? Size, weight, do you smoke etc...

Well first off I think I should mention I'm asthmatic. I take two puffs of the ventolin before I head to the gym and usually two puffs half way through.

My diet is normal I guess. I try to ensure I have some protein before I go to the gym, either scrambled eggs or home made bagel with peanut butter.

More often than not, three square meals a day, meat, poultry in the evening, fish of some sort twice or three times a week...

Always get veg into my dinner, although I don't eat much fruit...

And I very rarely eat fast food. I've read too many books like fast food nation for that....

Not exactly specialised towards the gym, but not unhealthy either imo...although I have been meaning to try and make it more suitable for weightlifting.

you seem to be doing alright from the looks of it. Apparently the feeling of almost throwing up is your growth hormone kicking in, id be more careful about the headaches and light headedness, i imagine you are not getting enough energy into your body before you do your workout sessions. As for you making gains i would try:

    a) getting more calories into your diet
    b) getting more rest
    c) changing your routine every 4 weeks.

By keeping variety in your training along with plenty of sleep and plenty of good food you should be making gains.

Well it's less than an hour since I got back to the gym and I feel fine again, so I know I'm not absolutely killing myself. I've already noticed that when I eat a meal involving protein as mentioned above I am able to train better for longer, thats obvious to everyone really I think. So I guess the next problem will be structuring my diet so that I am getting enough energy at all times during the day. Perhaps it's time to invest in a protein supplement.

Its good your getting protein in your diet, but when i actually meant with energy and workout is mainly more concerned towards Carbohydrate consumption. Protein doesnt fuel your muscles for workouts.Ensure your getting plenty of complex carbs like rice or pasta before your workout (along with protein) and creatine if your taking it. This will ensure your body is energised for your workout.
