I really want to start working my lats more, but I can't do pull ups. Should I just load as much weight is nessecary onto the pull down machine in order to be able to do a few sets, or is there something else I can do to strengthen these muscles?

i know how you feel, im a sucker for pull ups & chin ups, instead i would recommend bent over rows; they work your lats, middle back and your bi-ceps.

hmm, read that in a magazine last night, am going to the gym in a few minutes and will try it out. Probably load the pull down machine until I can do 3-5 reps.

Any tips on form? Obviously it's easier to do when your stomach muscles are taut/flexed....I've never actually been shown how to do a pull up, which is also a small part of the reason why I can't do them imo...

click here for the exercise, id do it with low/medium weight as trying to do bent over rows with heavy weight on a barbell will put more stress on your lower back and possible injure you.

Thanks for that, I was actually using that a month ago, but stopped since I went back to the gym, was concentrating on standing machines....Will definately incorporate it back into my regieme, along with a lot more free weights moves.
