Yeah. it's the full game but with only 2 maps. I'm told that the core of the game is so big as to make maps smaller but we'll have to wait and see if that's the case.

After a round a few thoughts

The soldiers all look alike, the lack of a blue nametag seems to be the only way to tell who's who.

No 1280x1024 support in this day and age?

There's no atmosphere like BF2, BFV or 1942. The flags are just two bars of apparently random colours, no red commie stars, EU blue etc.

And the end of first ever round, going top of the leader board it disconnected just a few tickets before match end claiming it had lost connection to the EA master server, rather than the acutal game server.

Getting the dogtags of those I'd stabbed was nice. Credit to whoever Mooseh is for being to willing to have a knifefight with me.

Downloaded and installed double clicked icon and...error message

I had a problem got an "unable to locate componant" error message saying that the application could not start because d3dx9_29.dlll was not found.

anyone else get this or know what it's about? It says reinstalling may fix the problem but it didn't.

Sounds like one of the files that was part of the updates to DirectX9c. There were various later releases by date. Think the last one was the August release.

All the download servers are busy now. My EA Downloader is telling me that my estimated time for download to begin is 18 mins 11 secs. God, I hope it's not 18 hours, 11 minutes!!!

    +1(although I haven't played POE(I will after reading this))

Been playing it a lot day,

It is fun, but the game kinda looks "funny", in BF2, everything is more "real", I mean guns and everything has a more real feel/look to it, in BF2142 it is a bit different, and titan lags as hell too, I like the air vehicles though, but again it feels like a cartoon, maybe it's because of the map?(dark yellow colours)? apcs and tanks are not in correct proportions I think(I think they're too big)

Personally I enjoyed flying a lot(although the gunship's rockets aren't as powerful as in BF2, and it's impossible to hit anything with a TGM), and using a battle walker, but didn't enjoy guns(you get bored with them pretty fast) and sniper gun is annoying with it's swaying, atleast in call of duty it's more logical, when you prone it sways less, but not in 2142

I quite enjoyed it, I think the titan mode is very good.

What's the bet that before Christmas, this year, there will be an announcment of a Patch release to fix some major screw up.

So, next january I predict the following post on the EA Website:

“The news many of you have been hoping for – the long awaited 1.2235621 patch for Battlefield 2142 goes live in two years time. After much anticipation the new patch featuring only the crappiest features you have come to expect from EA will be sponsored by Wilma Dickfit Inc. (Customers should be aware given the complexity of programmming that this patch may need another patch for it to actually function":D

I also enjoyed titan mode. More for the novelty of a new format than anything else. Though while I'm playing it I do keep wondering "is this it?". I expect that novelty would quickly wear off. Titan mode should be used for maybe one or two maps that way you wouldn't get sick of it. Each map should have a "titan mode" of their own. By that I mean a unique way of winning that isn't just hold more flags. That would make me want to buy the game. My idea does sound a bit like ET:QW but a bit of imagination would make it unique. You could argue that it hinders the learning curve of the game but I'd picked up the idea after about 2 rounds (admittedly not everyone had as I was left defending our titan on my own against about 5 boarders) but regardless it's a weak excuse not to make a better game.

downloading now (couldn't get a slot last night)

i really hope this is good, but after so many patches and so much crap from bf2, i don't have a lot of hope left in me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,263 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

Ive kept an open mind on this game.

And oh my is it ****e.

Its too easy to capture posts. 10 seconds after capturing a post its already
gone to the enemy. I think thats because everyone has some sort of super
fast transport. The game is like a mixture of Mech Warrior/ HL2 / Bf2 / War World
    Tactical Combat

Infact its almost exactly like War World Tactical Comabt except 2142 has infantry
, flying vehicles and more debt.

Well Ill play it again some other day and maybe then Ill understand why people
would like this game. But right now I much prefere Bf2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,240 ✭✭✭✭Fanny Cradock

It's really like a skin for BF2. Other than the obvious aesthetic differences, the game handles the same; the classes are the same; and the vehicles are the same. Nothing ground breaking here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

played it now and while it is just a lot of re-skinning, it is better optimised (going inside the titan isn't like entering some sort of FPS suction device) and the menu's are far nicer.

the demo has me sold anyway, even if it feels like the gun sounds were lifted from quake4

Here is a fix for you :)

right click and properties on the shortcut on desktop,

    you will see

    "D:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

    change it to

    "D:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

u can put any resolution you want in there

it will still show as default in the BF2142 options, but as you will see its running a custom res.as you will see its running a custom res.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for great in game menus.... Think I'll buy 5 copies when it comes out...

I'm aware of the fix, since I had to use it on the original BF2 as well, before it was added in a patch. Which just makes it very odd that it's missing at all, let alone since we know they specifically added it to the BF2 code in a patch.

are you even going to try and say that the menu here is not sleeker, nicer and running 10x better then the bf2 menu was? gone are the days where you double click a server to get absolutely no response for a few moments...

also, i've noticed a lot of people saying that it's an improvement on bf2, and pretty cool as a futuristic game, but the "hardcore" are lashing into it (predictably) for crap like "the flying is all wrong"... well y'all enjoy bf2 then... i'll enjoy 2142, and then enjoy quake wars when that drops...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭hairball

agree with that mayhem, i can't understand why people are moaning that something's crap, when in fact it's not that its crap at all, merely different, i'm loving the fact that it takes a little more skill and patience to get good in most of the vehicles and i love the fact that the two tanks handle completely differently, it has, in the limited opinion i've so far been afforded, more variety than bf2 in terms of handling differences and that just makes it all the more enjoyable in my opinion and yes it might be not much more than a very detailed mod, but its a good one and will sit well as a companion to bf2, poe2 and forgotten hope 2 when its out.

Well, that must be something with you, because I played twice today, about three full rounds, and had no issues whatsoever.

Titan mode was a bit laggy mind, but that's my pc, not something I'm going to blame EA for.

Anybody notice that when your on a moving titan, when you place a command or someone dies. they move as if attached to the stationary scenery outside and not move with the titan. So you have all these dead bodies gliding by you.

    Or is it just me.

Its too arcady for me. Maybe its a good game but its just not my cup of tea right
    now.

It reminds me of Hl2 and Halo too much.

what i want to know is why people think hexagons are futuristic. So many futuristic games use hexagons (star wars being one example which i basically think everyone has ripped off). slightly off topic but its been bugging me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 51 ✭✭Dreamcrusher

i havent downloaded it cause over a gig for a demo is taking the piss. But i have to say im not eactly surprised with the largely uniformly negative views so far. I think EA have finally pushed people just a little too far with thier dead horse flogging this time by charging 50 notes for what seems to be essentially a glorified mod. And an ill concieved mod at that
