Just wondering has anyone used slim fast to lose weight and has it worked? I'm three stone overweight and would like to slim down by next summer. I have no free time really for much exercise so diet is going to be the key. I'm a part time student part time worker and full time mother of two young children. Any ideas to fit in execise at home and on the slim fast issue?

Hi foxy I wouldn't be to worried about going on the slimfast diet, as it may work initally for you but once you stop the weight will just back on probably even more.
You say diet will have to be the most important factor to help you lose weight, but to be truthful even if you had lots of time to exercise your diet would still have to be the most important thing to help you lose weight. What I would suggest is post up your current diet and we can see where you main pit falls are, also put up your height and current weight.
In relation to the exercise, this will depend largly on the time you have available to you to do exercise. So I could suggest things like going for a walk in the evening if you have somebody else who can look after the kids, or at least try and so some bodyweight exercises, like squats, pressups, dips etc when the kids have gone to bed for roughly 20 minutes 2 -3 evening per week and then at the weekend go out and be active with your kids this way you don't have to seperate your exercise from your family life you can just merge the and at the same time you will be making sure that your kids are getting some exercise aswell.

As a mother and student/worker it may prove expensive. These lipotrim and slimfast diets work since you are on a calorie deficit, and the portions are tightly controlled. If you simply learn how to count calories you will be better off in the long run as you can stick to calorie counting for the rest of your life, and eat normal food. Get a digital weighing scales, I got one new on ebay for about €15. When counting calories with normal food you can make comparisons and see what is making you overweight, e.g. a burger has about the same calories as the bun. A full tin or beans or 2 chicken fillets have both got less calories than a chocolate bar.

Most people go way over the portions they should, you look at cornflakes and it says maybe 200kcal "per portion", but people just stick twice that in their bowl. You must weigh foods, after a while you will just know "the look" of how much you are eating.

Exercise is extremely important, esp. the bodyweight ones jsb described, otherwise on a calorie deficit you will lose muscle and your metabolism will slow down.

Eat 6 equally sized (caloriewise) meals a day, this way you never go hungry, and never get stuffed, so your stomach is never stretched. After a few weeks you will feel full on less, as the stomach shrinks. It also boosts your metabolism eating like this.
