A few weeks ago I bought a heart rate monitor. I had spent the past months doing a fair bit of running, 5km every second or third day, plus sprint triathlons... so would consider myself fit enough.

When running in the gym for approx 25 mins, getting up to 15kmph towards the end my heart rate was reading as 105% of my max heart rate. Is this dangerous or what? I didn't feel knackered... just the usual running feeling. My heart rate monitor was causing other machines to pick up the reading through wireless transmission and flash "high heart rate" to all machines around me.

    Couple of possibilities.

You can get high readings due to poor contact with the skin. Not enough sweat (unlikely in the situation) or the chest-strap moving a bit. They're usually obviously wrong like 190 when you're only starting out but they're not always obvious.

That may actually be your max heart rate. How did you determine your previous estimate of max heart rate?

Interference. You can pick it up from machines, overhead wires, other peoples chest straps.
