    Hi all,

Well our first tournament is currently underway in Dundalk! The field is high calibre if a little on the cosy side with 32 runners currently battling it out in level 1! It should be an interesting night anyway with the likes of Conor Smith, Flipper Walsh, Paul Leckey and Dave O'Callaghan amongst the runners.
I'll do my best to update you over the course of the tournament -though I can't promise the sparkling wit and repartee of the antes-up team I'll struggle on anyway! Updates to follow shortly!
    Julie

Flipper Walsh is off to a good start here in Dundalk.

Dave O'Callaghan is off to a slower start but its early days yet.

    We ended up with 33 runners so there's a prize-pool of €16,500.

Its level 3 and we have still to lose a player.

    Stephen.

After a tight first few levels the actions is hotting up now with 5 players going out in the last half hour!
Casualties so far include Willie Clynes (who won his ticket in a satellite before the game), The Captain himself signed off, Bob Battersby bit the bullet and Ricky Cosgrove went out in what he himself described as reckless plays, swearing never to drink before playing poker again "All I did was keep trying to bluff!"

half an hour to the break now - 27 players left..... more to come soon

    Cheers Neil,

We're happy enough with the turnout alright but we will have to improve for future. I think the players here are pretty happy with the way we've chopped up the €16,500 pool though.

I've been giving you a plug alright and I'm sure you will get plenty of the lads travelling down to ya. Will you ever learn not to get banned!

    Cheers Neill,
    Stephen.

Yeah, Gholi is playing great and has lots of chips.

So is Dave but he doesn't have loads of chips or anything.

John O'Callaghan has a pile of chips.

We're down to ten players at the mo, exact chip count will follow when we get down to 9.

    Stephen.

Flipper just announced that we are about to be down to 9 when he was called.

He pushed pre-flop with J-7 and was called by A-8.

However we're still at ten as Flipper dealt out the beat for once instead of being on the receiving end.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 Poker_Ireland

The same player dealt the bad beat from Flipper -Vinnie McNamee- went all in with 77 and got called by Derek Williams AK - 10 J on the flop, Q on the turn, and 7 on the river -another tough one for Vinnie

Now we're into the final table :
    stacks are as follows........
    John O'Callaghan 65K
    Echan 65K
    Garret McNally - 44K
    Derek Williams - 30K
    Stephen Murphy - 30K
    Eoghan Lyons - 23K
    Eugene Flynn - 22K
    Dave O'Callaghan - 21K
    Kieran Flipper Walsh - 16K

    Average stack 33K
    Blinds 1000-2000
    Antes - 200

    Good luck to all now!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 Poker_Ireland

Well our internet connection went down and we had some dramatic changes.

First out was David O'Callaghan in 9th place
Eoin Lyons was next out and Flipper Walsh was knocked out in 7th.

There were 5 places to be paid but the players have decided to give the bubble (6th place) their money back.....€500.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 Poker_Ireland

    And we've lost the clamper.

    Blinds 2000-4000 ante 400
Ehsan limps in first position, folded around to Derek (the clamper) in the small blind who thinks and then goes all-in for 17,500.

John O'Callaghan is in the big blind and immediately pushes all-in for about twice that amount.
Ehsan quickly folds and the hands are revealed.
John shows A-Q and the clamper shows only one card - the 7c, and declares that he needs a 7.

The flop is dealt out and we see that Derek has A-7 which does not improve.

Derek picks up €1,000 for his trouble.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 Poker_Ireland

And we have lost John O'Callaghan.

John lost a huge pot when he made a move on Gareth Mc Nally.

John had A-8 but Gareth called the re-raise pre-flop with Q-Q.

Mr. O'Callaghan was then in a race for the rest of his chips with 9-10 against the same player's 8-8.

A flop of 9-8-4 sealed John's fate but it was still a remarkable achievement considering he won his way into the tournament for an investment of €40.

what a great game this was .fair play Stephen and Julie for the effort.
me and my Julie split this for 5.5K each .HU we were even in chips and the other lad could play and nearly 5oc in the morning we decided to chop.
it was a rather though field and specially though first table with Dave O'C and a few other good player that i dont know by name(Dave knew them).
i was chip lead from prob when we were in to the last 20 and never lost it really.
went in to FT co chip lead.
the good thing was that all the good players who had any chips were to my right so i had position on them which allowed me to still/make moves freely.
down to 5 handed and it was really John O'C and another las that i choped with that i was worried about .
John O'C eventually got short stacked and made a move with A8 which got called by QQ and he was out and i was happy cuz the dude who won the chips wasnt really great and i knew it would be easy to get the chips of him.
played 3 handed for a while and made a big mistake and called a huge reraise with KQ after i had reraised .the pot was 140K .i raised with KQ on the button and he goes all in for another 60K to me.i called and he had AJ and made a house.
after that i was down to 90K but a few orbits and i was back as the chips lead.
eventually the other two got it all in and the big stack won and now he had dead even chips as me and we choped.
    the End.

Nice to finally put some faces to names tonight. I actually thought i was ahead preflop.I wasn't really making a move with the A8 he had been raising with crap and i as you said he didn't seem very good i thought he was sticking it in here with any two pictures. Alas those two pictures were Q's :)

Really enjoyed the 5 handed between Dave , yourself , Stephen , me and don't know the other persons name before the final table.

Congrats on the win ..... you and Stephen played great poker at the FT !!

Thanks to Stephen and Julie was a great tornament.

you played an excellent game John your self .sry about saying i was happy to see you gone but i was as i had one less person to worry about.
the 5 handed game just before the FT was really though .couldnt make a move ffs .
in the FT you got U
ul running your QQ in Stephens KK other wise it could have turned out differently.
wp all the same and looking forward to the next one.

Well done also to opr and Daithio. 3 boardsters again at the FT of a big event. What's the secret, lads. :)

Seems like a very well run event, need to make the effort (and BR) to get to the next one of these.

Yeah Lyonzy posts on here too.

I really enjoyed the tournament, best structure I've played in a long time. There was so much play, even when short stacked you could make a reraise and get away from it.

5 handed we had a really good game for about an hour, I think we got a bit unlucky with the table draws. Myself, Opr, Lyonzy, Stephen, and Gholi on one table, with Flipper, the Clamper and three fish on the other one, but it's always fun to play against good opposition at least.

WP Gholi and Opr, the two of you played really well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 421 ✭✭StraddleFor6

Yeah, very well played lads. I was very impresssed with the 5 handed play just before the final table...you really had to work hard to win a pot. Congrats again to all who monied, and for a trully draining, but highly entertaining game.

    Lyonzy.
