Im lookin for a relatively easy way to bump up my calorie intake, a lot of the guys at my gym suggested throwng some glucose into my whey shakes. Just ordinary glucose for like 1.50 a packet. Is this not just sugar, and bad for me. How much should i be puttting in my shakes then?

question: should I add glucose to my shake?

    answer: it depends

I would only add glucose to a shake that i am having during or after a workout. basically it will help keep catabolism at bay, but would avoid doing it at other times. depending on the fat that you have in your diet already add some nuts instead which are quite high in calories

while the addition of glucose will help to bump up your calories, that's not why glucose is added to post workout shakes. When you train you use up stored energy (glycogen) and the glucose, which is one of the simplest sugars, will help to replace the lost energy, acting as a quickly absorbed carbohydrate that can be readily converted into glycogen.

If you need to increase calorie intake you're better off doing it by spreading the extra calories throughout the day, and use good fats like walnut, olive and sesame oils, avocados and nuts, or increase your protein.

IM with G'em! well not literally cos I heard she's cranky as hell rite now :D

To answer your final question.. how much to you use?

Work it out.. In a box of Glucose C there are 81g of CARBS 100g

Divide 100 by 81 gives you how much id in one gram.

Now your Carbs to protein ratio should be 2:1, which means for every gram of protein you consume you should consume 2 grams of carbs.
So your post work out protein shake will have roughly 30g of protein in it, so you need 60g of carbs. So multiply 60 by the amount you found out from the sum's above and whack it in!
