Let this thread be a monument to our love of pie. Whats that you say??? You don't like pie??? *takes out shotgun* I knew I could persuade you... *shoots anyway*

    owl.jpg

Post you favourite pie flavour, your secret tips on making pies, and how you like it served. Served with vanilla ice cream after been heated in the microwave, eating it on a cool autumn evening. I see pie eating as an art god dammit!!!

So, without further ado, some stuff about pie...
    wikipedia wrote:
A pie is a baked food, with a baked shell usually made of pastry that covers or completely contains a filling of meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, cheeses, creams, chocolate, custards, nuts, or other sweet or savoury ingredients. Pies can be either "one-crust," where the filling is placed in a dish and covered with a pastry/potato mash top before baking, or "two-crust," with the filling completely enclosed in the pastry shell. Some pies have only a bottom crust, generally if they have a sweet filling that does not require cooking. These bottom-crust-only pies may be known as tarts or tartlets. An example of a bottom-crust-only pie that is savoury rather than sweet is a quiche. Tarte Tatin is a one-crust fruit pie that is served upside-down, with the crust underneath. Blind-baking is used to develop a crust's crispiness, and keep it from becoming soggy under the burden of a very liquid filling. If the crust of the pie requires much more cooking than the chosen filling, it may also be blind-baked before the filling is added and then only briefly cooked or refrigerated.

Pie fillings range in size from tiny bite-size party pies or small tartlets, to single-serve pies (e.g. a pasty) and larger pies baked in a dish and eaten by the slice. The type of pastry used depends on the filling. It may be either a butter-rich flaky or puff pastry, a sturdy shortcrust pastry, or, in the case of savoury pies, a hot water crust pastry.

    Yum

    "Poontang Pie"

When I want something to eat

    And to feel satisfied

I ask this waitress so sweet

    Do you have, poontang pie?

She looks at me and says no

And then I start to cry

So now where should I go?

    To get some, poontang pie?

So I go to a strip club

There, I don't have to try

Some are loose, some cost alot

    But they got, poontang pie

    Apple and Blueberry suck

    Leaves me empty inside

All of you wish me good luck

    Help me find, poontang pie!

    THE END

Movin' on Up by Jeff Barry and Ja'net Dubois - The Jeffersons Lyrics

    Well we're movin on up,
    To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
    Movin on up
    To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

    Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
    Took a whole lotta tryin'
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in teh big leagues
    Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's you and me baby
There ain't nothin wrong with that.

    Well we're movin on up,
    To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
    Movin on up
    To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

A survey by the American Pie Council and Crisco® found that apple pie is the favorite flavor among one out of four Americans, followed by pumpkin, chocolate, lemon meringue, and cherry.

    • An overwhelming 76 percent of Americans prefer homemade pie over pie from a bakery or pastry shop, restaurant, diner, or supermarket.

    • The average American eats six slices of pie per year.

    • The term "as American as apple pie" traces back to 14th century England. The Pilgrims brought their pie-making skills, along with the apple seeds to America. As the popularity of apple pie spread throughout the nation, the phrase grew to symbolize American prosperity.

    • Before pie was America's favorite dessert, fruit pies were commonly eaten as part of breakfast in the 19th century.

    • Other names for a pie are: pastie, oggie, piraski, piragie, patty, and pierogi. More common names include: streusel, tart, turnover, and crumble.

    • The term "upper crust" refers to early America when the economy was difficult and supplies were hard to come by. Only affluent households could afford ingredients for both the upper and lower crusts of a pie; thus, the term "upper crust" was born.

    • Shoo-fly pie is a wet-bottom molasses pie that was originally used to sit on windowsills to attract flies away from the kitchen.

    • The American Pie Council is the only organization committed to preserving America's pie heritage and promoting Americans' love of pie.

    • Crisco, developed in 1911, is the quintessential ingredient for creating America's favorite tender, flaky crust. The Crisco manufacturing facility is located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Nah, that's a slanted representation from Crisco who is a company that has always strived to appeal to Americans by being so very American.

Then again, maybe Joe Volvo and Sally Soccer Mom saw that report and made all their friends switch to homemade apple pie so they'd fit in. (fickle bastards!)
