is it healthy to lose 6 pounds in three days?
My friend claims his dad has lost the above amount and i'm worried. Is this just water weight or is this actually possible?

he may have lost it but chances are most of its just water and muscle. not a healthy rate to loose fat at.

It's not necessarily very unhealthy, but it will more than likely be mostly water and some muscle, and depending on how it was lost, will probably go straight back on once he starts to eat 'normally' again.

I thought so, he initially started with 8 but i told him he was full of crap and i'd put it on boards so he dropped it to 6. Just another quick question what is the healthy body weight of a 20 year old?
Last year i weighed 75 kilos, 11st 11lbs, and now i weigh 12st 8 lbs and i'm wondering whats my optimum weight?
oh and i'm very active i play basketball for my college, go to karate 3 times a week and do weights 3 times a week aswell generally on the days i do one of the other two.
I take pro-x after working out aswell.

You can check your BMI online but it will not take into account muscle mass, i.e. some bodybuilders would be regarded as morbidly obese. You need to know your body fat %, for a 20 year old male it should be about 8-15%.

As for loosing 6lb, I can weigh myself and a few hours later be 6lb heavier, if I was dehydrated water would be taken in. A pint of beer weighs over 1lb, think of how many you could hold before going for a piss.

It also depends on the time of day that he initally weighed himself, for example after i have had my dinner on a workout day i.e. losts of fluid in the system aswell i can be up to 4-5 lbs heavier then i will be teh following morning after i have gone to the loo and before any breakfast, so i wouldn't be to worried just make sure he is weighing himself at the same time and under teh same conditions each time so you can note any real change. That and i would say it will be mostly water that he may have lost

a healthy weight could be anywhere between 10 -15 stone even more but also an unhealty weight could also be in the same scale.

I would be more worried about actual BF and activity levels rather then actual weight to be truthful

It's all relative to your height. Someone who is 5ft and 12st will be overweight, while someone who is 7ft and 12st will probably be underweight.

If you're in or around 6ft for a b-ball player, 12-13 is about right and could go up with no problems.

What do you mean by "alright"?
Do you mean you'd be concerned that the extra weight would hamper your game?

    what do you mean?

and yeah i was wondering if it would be a bad idea cause i'm trying to increase my jump by doing plyometrics and i thought extra body weight wouldn't be a good idea. Also i'm afraid if i put on the extra weight it won't be a good idea to have it when i stop exercising for periods of time.

Probably water as people have said, although I have managed to lose up to 5/6 pounds in a week, and it would definately have been fat. This is part of a sustained loss of 35 pounds so far averaging 3/4 pounds a week, so no, it's not just water ;-)
