Check out this, says it is newly added and I never saw it on the page.

Might have a go at making one of those belts.

Looks like a safer alternative for those without a rack.

Good for taking pressure off the back too.

Interesting. I have a dip belt so might try that one and report back how well it works. I'd imagine though that it wouldn't work too well with heavy weight - eg a few 45 pounders hanging down between your legs would be awkward and bulky. Also mounting the plates onto the chain would be tedious and awkward.

If you're looking for somewhere to buy a dip belt I got mine in Workout World on the quays cost about 30 quid. It's pretty weak though. The most weight I have used with it is about 58 kg for weighted pull ups. The leather belt part is fine but some of the chain links have started to bust open and I replaced the fasteners with heavier duty ones ages ago. Am now thinking of getting a heavier duty chain from a hardware shop and fitting it to the belt.

Looks awkward and silly to me. I reckon training to build up Leg Pistols to the point where you could do one holding a kettleball would be far superior goal.

They're actually a decent enough little exercise. They can be awkward to get started, especially when you get up to doing them with about 5 wheels hanging on that belt ( I would also suggest you buy a good high quality, high load belt rather than make one ).

It's very equipment intensive…..when's the last time you saw 2 free flat benchs down your gym? And it takes the squat from being a full body exercise to being a purely leg exercise.

Could be good for people who have lower back trouble on squats and find the front squat difficult.

Advice : Start low, don't go to failure.

Not sure about this particular exercise (i.e. using a dip belt & two benches), but WestSide use a similar idea for one of their machines. The idea as already mentioned, is to give your legs a decent workout without requiring alot of pressure to be put on the spine. As someone who's had their squatting limited by back trouble in the past I think it can be a pretty useful exercise for some.

Would this type of squat not restrict the flow of blood to the legs?

It also looks to be a bit of a nut crusher when standing straight!

For the first bit, nope, not really, you should be wearing the belt in such a way that it is rest on the hips, and while there will be a bit of dig in it will not be enough to restrict blood flow.

For the second, just make sure you are using a chain with the correct lenght to a) clear the ground in the ATG position and b) not hit you in the nuts.

One thing i will say is that weight will be restricted. I used to know a guy who had to go up to about 100kilo's for 30 to 40 reps on these, and clearance between the benches while keeping a decent stance, and the wheels hitting off your legs etc if your not extrememly careful was a pain in the ass.
