Hi not sure if this is in the right section so can amod move it for me if I'm wrong please, thanks.

I broke my foot at the end of May (5th Metatarsal fracture, common sports injury but it didn't happen while playing sports), I was in a cast for 4 1/2 wks, doctor in Beaumont said it had been healing very well so was able to start walking without my cast and keep my crutches, have now finished as of a few wks seeing the doc and also my physio, there's still a bump on the side of my foot where I broke it, also it can still get sore at times..........

Is this normal has anyone ever had a lump/bump where they'd broken something months later?

    Sue

I broke two of my fingers on my left hand and had to get a few pins in them to hold them. That was last november. theres still a lump at the base of one of my knuckes that wasnt there before, Could have been where they took the pin out.

The bump is new bone matter afaik.

Yeah it is. It's like if you get a cut and then scar tissue grows back to patch up the hole in your skin. The bump that you can still feel is (in simple terms) bone scars. ;)

this is correct. doctors told me this is the lump i was left with in the hand bone of my small finger which broke and they couldnt set back correctly because of its location at the edge of the hand and their reluctance to put a pin in my hand. afaik its the calcium/bone built up

Ah so I see said the blind girl (me), thanks :)

So any idea if it will go away? It's not huge but there's a definite difference, I find that certain runners/shoes dig into it ya see :(

Well I still have a lump on my nose from when I broke it about 5 years ago and a lump on my hand from when I broke it a year ago, so it's quite possible that you'll be stuck with it.

If it's only a couple of months ago it may still be some swelling and could go down a little more.

If it's still painful you should really go back to your doc about it.

    Hi Ya,
Used to be into competitve dancing quite seriously over the years i have broken numerbous toes and each of my ankles twice.
your 'lump' may go away but i know that one of my ankles is acompletely different shape to the other and i also broke the plate that holds you toes together when i was 15 and this then stopped growing so one foot is a size smaller than the other, now i know people often have different size feet but this is madly extreme.
anyways best of luck with the healing process just dont push yourself to hard to soon!

So do you have to buy 2 pairs of shoes when you need a new pair? Or do you just suffer with having either one fott crammed into a shoe that's too small or one foot swimming around in a shoe that's too big?

Haha the doctor in the hospital asked me if I was a dancer or a gymnast when I went in actually, never happened doing sports though, was my own stupid fault!

Yeah as well as the side of my foot my ankle is different to my other one as well, slightly more raised but spongy unlike where it broke which is a hard lump, thanks for the reply, comforting to know there's others out there with odd shaped feet ;)
