...for a pint or two (or three, four, five, maybe even six) and some nerdy camera talk Saturday night coming, in Dublin? God only knows, we might even do some shooting beforehand!

    Any interest?

If the invitation is open to psycopaths from dublin ,then I'd love to go
Be warned though ,I tend to get drunk as the night goes on.

It is of course open to all!

Drunk as the night goes on? You? Never. I don't remember that from the last time at all...not that I remember much other than Dimy taking a whizz at the bus stop on the quay......

    :D

You guys live in Dublin all of your life? I'm a bit new to the area, so I think everything is ripe for shooting. I'd be interested to know what lifers shoot as well as absorb some knowlege. I'm a little shy to commit this early in the week though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

I'm from Waterford, but in college up there.

Feel free to come along though, I'd say the plans will be something along the lines of meeting up at 4 or 5, find some decent areas (canal maybe) to go shooting, then head pubwards after that.

No need to commit now, if you want I can PM you my number and give me a text if yer gonna come out!

I was just watering the trees, anyway, I didn't flash myself! Something that can't be said of some other person here at Boardsie.... :D

I think I'm in, but I have a friend coming over from wednesday till about next week, but he's probably gonna do his own thing on saturday anyway.

    Excellent!

    This sat coming, the 23rd!

Hmmm, right, say if we meet up in town, I think the Canals could be interesting to shoot. Not as many people up around there either. Hmmmm... Porterhouse that night? Or any other suggestions?

Is attempting gig shots at a bar or venue out of the question ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

I wouldn't have a problem...but the venue/bar might if 12 or 13 photogs turn up :D Even the band might be getting a bit pissed off!

Are there any gigs on that weekend? I haven't heard of much.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,332 ✭✭✭311

It was only a thought thats all ,just a matter of walking by somewhere seeing a band playing and walking in.
We could each take a shot on our own whenever the time was right ,just a casual thing like.

I'm sure theres plenty of bars with bands playing ,just a thought though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 709 ✭✭✭Dimy

Dont forget to mention which Porterhouse... there are a couple :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    Actually, just to mention.

I'm not sure what my internet connection is gonna be like on Fri/Sat, I'm moving up to Dublin, so if I have it, all well and good, if not, I'll be tryning to get to an internet cafe/depending on the dreaded text messages!

So, the plans above, timewise, how do they suit? (I know some people might just be interested in the pubbing afterwards!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭Wez

I wouldn't mind heading out if I'm free.. I've gotta get some pics taken anyway, and the canals are always so good!

I think I have something to do on Saturday that's important, but I can't remember. If I remember what it is, then I'll prolly have to back out, I'll see how it goes.. Should I send someone my number incase it's needed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 633 ✭✭✭Tarakiwa

    Damn - this sounds great.
I would love to go along but just cant this weekend.

There is a motorboke roadrace heading right past my house in Tullyallen (Co. Louth) on Saturday & Sunday .......... we are pretty much locked in!

Anybody that is up that way taking pictures & that needs the use of a loo / beer / cup of tea to warm up etc is welcome!

Have a great night out guys.

Well, wherever is handiest to meet up? Connell st is good!

Stupid question, but I've never been down docklands...anything down there worth shooting?

Ah no, I'd say there could be some stuff to shoot alright, just a bunch of guys with expensive camera equipment in certain docklands areas after dark mightn't be the wisest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Who said anything about after dark!

Docks and the dark NEVER go together.

If I was going I'd just bring my film SLR and 1 lens, less obvious!

Nothing much else seems to be going on this weekend, so assuming I can get rid of this virus garbage that's been killing me all week, I'd like to join up. Has a time been mentioned? Should I give my number to somebody on the off chance I can't find a dozen guys walking around with camera bags?

And re: Docklands. Was a little north of there by mistake last week. Can't say I'd want to be there at night (or alone during the day). The Docklands themselves seem perfectly devoid of any safety features and plenty of opportunity to be dumped in the river. I was just glad that when I was there at night, my camera wasn't all that impressive (fire installment for fringe fest). Unfortunately, I forgot to adjust my ISO. DOH!

I don't think the docks are bad at all ,

I'd be interested in coming along (don't want to guarantee that I could, since I've had to miss things like this before... but I'm determined to make it to one of these meetups sooner or later, if you guys would still care to have me around). ;) The docks wouldn't be my first choice, but I suppose we'd have a safety in numbers thing going on...

For what it's worth, a friend told me that there's going to be a big anti-war demonstration going on in town Saturday - http://www.irishantiwar.org/index.adp ... could be an interesting photo opportunity.

The Lanterns from the Fringe Festival are still hanging at the Liffey Boardwalk.
    Might make some nice pictures.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Hmmm...great ideas coming in...think we might be meeting up earlier!

Greysoul, I (And I'm sure we) would we be more than delighted to have you along with us :)

As I said, I had never been to the docklands, so wasn't sure! I think I might make a solo trip down there some morning to check it out, rather than a group of us going down there headfirst!!!

Ok, how's this for a quick plan. 12:30 - 13:00, meet up at the Spire...wait...scratch that... You know Hugh Lane Gallery? Anyone? It's just above the Garden of Rememberance. There's some seats there. We could meet up there, get the greetings over, plus if your early, you have plenty to look at inside the gallery :)

Head down to the protest, there's usually some odd and interesting characters at a protest, and head off whenever we all feel there's nothing more to gain.

Grab a coffee, and have a nerdy chat about cameras...I'm sure myself and Morlar would reccommend Starbucks ( ;) ) but any other suggestions are welcome...I haven't found too many places that do great coffee in Dublin yet!

While injecting ourselves with amounts of caffeine that shouldn't be allowed, we can debate our next move... Personally, I think the Canal on the southside has potential. I've never shot it before, but there's plenty about there to shoot, where it be birds, architecture, whatever really, as long as we all have enough memory/film :)

After that...it's open game for drinking time. If yez need to drop your gear off, off ye go, I'm sure we'll be in need of food for soakage at that stage :D

And hopefully a grand night awaits! :)

And now the bad news...there is a storm due for the weekend...

    *runs*

I don't know whether I'll be going ,I'd like if it was around the templebar /hapenny bridge area though if theres a crowd.

Edit : sorry fajitas missed your post about earlier in the day .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭mdebets

12:30 is a little bit early for me. I have to do a few things for college. 16:00 or later would suit me better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Well, you don't have to come along that early, we'd only be a text and a short walk away really, so whenever your about just give me a shout, my number'll be on it's way to you in a PM! :)
