So in keeping with the running season i.e. all those doing the half and dublin marathon

    Runners v's Joggers

Runners think about the distance time and speed they will do before the session
Joggers get out and put in the least amount of time possible

Runners wear fitted clothing, microfibre t-shirts, running shoes, know their foot type and bad weather just means wearing other cool clothes
Joggers are normally fair weather trainers i.e 'it's raining so i can't go'.

Runners normally hate the treadmill as its boring but good for setting a pace
Joggers love the treadmill as they can watch the tv and pretend they are really getting their heart rate into their zone.

Runners talk of HR, BPM, Splits, Fartlek, Lactic acid threshold, VO2 max
Joggers think why am i not getting better and remain joggers

Runners enter races to be better runners and stretch themselves
Joggers race for the bus and think to themselves as they puff and pant 'I thought i was fit whats the story?'

Runners think of running like moving meditation
Joggers jog and feel the benefits but it could be so much more

Runners read books like - the runner within, the lore of running, ultramarathon man etc and become inspired
Joggers watch more tv and stay the same

Finally the only thing that will change you in 5-10 years time are the people you meet, books you read and time you spend working on your goals.
I train and work with lots of joggers but would love them to become runners one day

    I'd say an athlete...

Runners think about the distance time and speed they will do before the session
Joggers get out and put in the least amount of time possible
Athletes think about whether they took too much out in this morning's run especially with tonight's track session

Runners wear fitted clothing, microfibre t-shirts, running shoes, know their foot type and bad weather just means wearing other cool clothes
Joggers are normally fair weather trainers i.e 'it's raining so i can't go'.
Athletes do speedwork topless in the summer

Runners normally hate the treadmill as its boring but good for setting a pace
Joggers love the treadmill as they can watch the tv and pretend they are really getting their heart rate into their zone.
    Athletes normally hate the gym

Runners talk of HR, BPM, Splits, Fartlek, Lactic acid threshold, VO2 max
Joggers think why am i not getting better and remain joggers
Athletes talk of A's,B's and dorsiflexion

Runners enter races to be better runners and stretch themselves
Joggers race for the bus and think to themselves as they puff and pant 'I thought i was fit whats the story?'
    Athletes enter races to win

Runners think of running like moving meditation
Joggers jog and feel the benefits but it could be so much more
Athletes don't think when running, they 'act like a horse, be dumb, just run' - Jumbo Elliot

Runners read books like - the runner within, the lore of running, ultramarathon man etc and become inspired
Joggers watch more tv and stay the same
    Athletes watch "Prefontaine"
