    Hi

over the last few months ive being doing well in my attempt to lose weight & get fit ive lost almost 2 stone in the past 6 months and my overall fitness levels are far better than ever .

last week i broke my foot playing football . its a bad break apparently broke two metatarsals( 4th and fifth) and im going to be in plaster for at least 6 weeks .

im afraid that my hard work over the last 6 months will be reversed if im going to be unable to run/walk play sport for the gutts of two months.
can anyone suggest anything i could do while im stuck at home to prevent me adding weight and losing fitness.

    cheers

    Eoin

yep, keep you diet in order. So now that you are going to be less active remember to recalculate your dialy requirements accordingly and drop the overall calories while trying to maintain a good level of protein in your diet

I broke my 5th metatarsal at the end of May and did put on some weight in that time, just over 1/2 stone, woulda thought I'd have put on more really as was really bored sitting at home and when I'm bored I tend to eat...... if you do put it on you'll probably lose it as soon as you're back up and about, I'm back to what I was before!

How you can keep fitness levels up though I dunno, pretty hard to do anything when your foot and legs in cast :(

I've read about elite runners using hand-cranks to keep some fitness while they can't use their legs. If and where those are available in ireland I've no idea.

Once you get out of the cast you could do some aqua jogging well before you'd want to be doing any weight bearing exercise. Check out

for a 9 week schedule. I'm assuming you won't want to be trying that out while your leg is in a plaster cast ;) But once that's off it's a low impact way to maintain fitness.

    Hi
I broke my 4th and fifth metatarsel in june and ended up losing a load of weight. i did not adjust my calorie intake or anything so I can only assume it was due to muscle mass been lost as i was quite toned before this. As soon as i got the plaster off i went swimming. it was quite stiff at first but definitely loosened out the foot by the end of the swim. I still can't run as there is still some swelling and the lunging movement from the foot push off in running causes pain. I would suggest the cross trainer as soon as you are able as the foot position remains pretty stable throughout the full ROM.

cheers for the advice anyway quick update im still in a poxy cast .Turns out ive done a lot more damage than initially tought. I have to go for surgery the week after the bank holiday . I have been pretty mobile due to the cast and foot strap i got at the hospital . Ive even been able to go to the gym and work on upper body (obviously no running ect) .I haven't really put on any weight which is great. My major problem will be after the surgery I will be completely immobile for about a month. Its a pain in the arse i might not be back running or cycling till feb/march next year if im lucky.
