    Commonly mispelt words = Commonly misspelled words. DOH!
    Words I've had problems with in the past hour:

    foreing = foreign
    lywers = lawyers
    particulour = particular
    troat = throat
    neccesary = necessary
    beautiful - I have to pause for a while to get the order of E, A and U correct.
    rythm = rhythm
    sentance = sentence

    I'm almost 25 now and I'm still having problems with spelling, and in particular, grammar. I'm not sure if I should have used a comma back there between 'spelling' and 'and'. I usually just geuss. <- doh! 'guess'.

    I think this stems from me not paying attention in primary school. I also think that I'm somewhat dislexic <- doh again! 'dyslexic'

    I have to use Google "Did you mean" all the time - It corrects my words before I post.

    Grammar:

    It's a very good idea, however, we're not entirely happy with the budget.

    I'm happy with the beginning of this sentence, but I'm not sure where to use the comma.

    You failed to answer the question, therefore, we cannot accept your application.

    Due to an error beyond our control, we cannot help you.

    I loved you're movie, but, and as I mentioned before, it will never reach the box office.

    The first two were normal, but the last three were awful, confirming my theory.

    I don't have many Irish-speaking friends, so it can be difficult at times.
    I don't make any Irish-speaking friends just so it can be difficult for me.

    Can anyone correct my grammar examples above? :)
    Anyone else having problems with their English?? :p

    I always type "the" as "teh" and i used to have a real problem spelly restaurant.

    I for grammer i hate when people write "i seen" on here, i'm not perfect but i fuppin' hate it!

    "I have seen" or "i saw" depending on what you want to say!

    Yes, I can correct them, OP. :P

    If you have any specific questions you should ask in the English forum or the pedantic forum. It's called Spell Czechs and you have to PM hullaballoo or me for access.

    I find I always right 'sould' instead of 'soul' when I'm typing...
    I would watch out for "you're" and "your" if you want a common example of people making mistakes. :)

    Bad pacing.... last one and it's not even clsoe to dark yet.

    Anyway, in answer to the OP question,

    Independent/independant ... always feck that one up.

    Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Untied Kingdom and Untied States!! :rolleyes:

    (that's more of a typo than a spelling error, I do know how to spell them correctly)

    Oh and "Definiatly" ?

    Me:

    Definetly = Definitely
    Exellent = Excellent
    Espically = Especially

    Their is others as well that I can't think of now.

    I bought EIGHT of Czechs best, not six :eek: :D Still boozing.

    Might just do that. Didn't know there was a specific forem 4it. ;):o

    I am constantly googling for spell check and when I hit "send" and then notice a spelling error I cringe!

    I once PM'd a thank you to Ruu and as I hit send I saw I misspelled his name as Euu!!!!!:eek: :D Too late when you hit "send"!

    It makes me insane when people use the word "to" when they were meant to use the word "too".

    It's so easy to remember! If you mean "extreme" or "as well as" you ought to say "too"! (can I come along too? You are too much of a man for me!)

    What is so difficult about that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Merrick

    I'm usually careful about my spelling but I usually get 'favourite' wrong.
    What really annoys me is when people get their/there/they're and your/you're mixed up.

    To right! It would take another 3 seconds too stop and think about what you're writing. :mad:

    I never EVER spell anyhting incorrectly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭iFight

    Normally type 'taht' for 'that'. Bit of trouble with separate too, I actually had to correct the spelling there :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 75 ✭✭plasto

    I'm being very careful in writing this.

    I would like to thank people for pointing out that you can check your spelling by searching on Google!
    This will save me alot of embarrassing situations, when I cringe before sending a message, hoping I dont sound like an idiot!!

    I did 1 spell check in this message.

    I always have trouble spelling "manoeuvre" and "Massachusetts".

    Some posters here constantly insert an apostrophe in plural words. Why?

    current examples - taxi's, Fiat's, Monday's. :eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,501 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

    One word that i absolutely cannot type is from, i'd say about 90% of the time if i'm typing quickly i type form. There are loads of words i forget how to spell, recently one i can think of is 'embarassing', and a lot of the ones already mentioned like definitely etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

    Yeah plural apostrophes do my head in, especially on signs, and even worse on permanent signs, e.g. there's a van around Limerick that says "Motorcycle Workshop's", and the sign outside Dunnes at the Parkway says "Open Sunday's...". Gah!

    My spelling's usually good enough, except for words I don't use too much like Wishbone Ash's two above. I've only learnt recently how to spell "maintenance" right (usually just guessed the vowels in the middle or wrote "maintainance").

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,383 ✭✭✭emeraldstar

    What bugs me the most is the misuse of there/their/they're and your/you're, especially the latter. Also 'i seen' instead of 'i saw' or 'i have seen' and the use of 'of' in such phrases as 'would of' or 'should of' - it's 'HAVE' people!!: 'would have'!! or 'would've' for short. Bad grammar really gets my goat...it may seem sad but i am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to grammar and spelling!!

    DAMN Emeraldstar, you are bueatiflu... (sp?) :)

    Apart from all the errors that have been mentioned so far, the one I hate is confusing "seen" with "seeing". I've mostly come across it on boards, and I'm shocked anyone could actually make that mistake.
    e.g. "I was seen this girl..." or "I was been silly..." or the classic sign outside a pub: "Lunch now been served".
    I realise people may be too lazy to pronounce the "g" on the end of the word sometimes, myself included, but that does not mean that seen/been and seeing/being are the same word!!

    necessary and queue

    Did I get them right?

    Ideally I'd phrase it "Its a very good idea but we're not entirely happy with the budget."

    Leave out all those usless commas altogether.

    I can't believe this is coming up on boards... This is the worst place for bad english............ well, not even bad english. Non-English language but seemingly acceptable. Eg. LOL !!!!!! get me?

    An amusement/gaming arcade in Westmoreland Street owned by Jim Kennedy, has (or used to have) a large sign inside the door which says:

    "It's not the hand your dealt but the way you play it"

    :eek::eek::eek::eek: How embarassing!
