First off, I'm not a photographer, don't know anything about photography except how to point and shoot.

Anyway, I was in Bray today, visting a friend who just spent the summer in the States, was catchin up with stuff and what not. We were sitting by sea, near that aquarium place. A long comes this old guy, wearing a suit, looking like he just stepped out of a 1920's movie. I whipped out the phone and took a shot, lukily enough, the shutter lag caught him in mid stride and it took what I think to be a great picture. Only thing that ruins it I think is the bottle of water in his right hand :p

I played around with it in photoshop for a little bit, tried to make it look older, but I didn't quite get it. If anyone could do me a favour and edit the original (1600x1200) to give it that "old" look I'd much appreciate it. I'd like to use it as my wallpaper.

I can post the original later tonight if there's any interest.

I wouldnt change the bottle as it looks like a glass one and makes this guy look more ominous imo. I would probably tilt the horizon back a bit so that its level. I think the tones are great and the conversion looks pretty good too. He looks like one of the sopranos on that brighton in beach new york.

That is a cracking picture... I love the bw conversion, too... but I wouldn't change the skewedness of the horizon, or the bottle. The squintyness just adds to the surreal feeling of the whole thing, and I wouldn't have paid much notice to the bottle if you hadn't of pointed it out, either. You should definitely post the original if you want people to have a shot at age-ing it.

you don't know anything about photography, but you know what shutter lag is and you have photoshop...interesting

Ah Photoshop comes with Limewire these days!*

And anyone with a digital P&S over 2 years old knows ALL about shutter lag with half their shots being ruined ;)

    *Not true for legal reasons.

@cambo: Yes I know what shutter lag is, it's a pretty common thing and it's self explanitory really.

I have photoshop because a cousin gave me a copy of it. I use it for making forum signatures (see sig), and photo editing is in a whole other class to that. :)

I'll post up the original when I get home tonight.

Thanks for all the replies guys, it was a bit of a random luck shot, but I thought I'd post it up anyway. Here's the original for you all to play with. I'd love if someone could get an nice sepia/old look going on with it, as I just don't have enough experience with photo editing to get the look I want.

@Dudley: It was taken on a 6280, a decent 2mp camera, well... semi decent :p

Good work, pretty decent shot. I prefer the black and white conversion. Keep posting. :)

    Thanks Ruu,
Oh yes, the conversion is a lot better - just posted the original to see if anyone could do a better job at doing a full size edit on it. I don't know if I'll be posting any more pics, this seems to be a one off shot in a million for me :)

nonsense, that pic shows you got a good eye for it and thats what its about... the rest is timing and luck to capture it just right........ like you did there :) Get a simple point n shoot (simpler to handle than phone I think) n go looking for shots....... you got the eye ;)

I just added browns & reduced dpi to create slight blur plus reduced size. I wouldn't try to change it much add off white uneven frame around it maybe. great pic:) .....
