    Heres the paste

You need 373.7 grams of carbohydrates, 98.7 grams of fat, and 149.5 grams of protein per day for 2989.5 calories to maintain your goal weight of 196 pounds.

What kind of fat are they talking about and what would happen if I ate 300 grams of protein every day?

a mixture of polyunsaturated, monounsaturated and saturated. Google them before you ask the inevitable "what are they?" question... (hint: two are 'good' fats, one is 'bad' but essential in small amounts)

you'd look like Arnold within a week.

    j/k.

any excess protein gets excreted in the urine or gets stored as fat. Your body can only really utilise 50g of protein at any one time.

    So could I have 50grams 6 times a day to make 300grms.

normally people need between 0.8-1g protein/ kg body weight. If you lift weights (and therefore need a higher level of protein in your diet to repair the msucle you break down when lifting) you needd 1.2-1.8g protein/ kg body weight a day.

You said on another thread you're 11 stone. That's 70kg. Which means without lifting you'd need around 70g protein a day, and if you're a lifter around 90-130g protein a day.

So no, taking 6 doses of 50g protein a day will not do you much good. It will go unused. Like daveirl said, lower your carbs, up your protein and maybe work in a 40:40:20 ratio of protein:carb:fat. You want to increase your mass right? From 154lbs (11 stone) to 196lbs? Yes you'll need to eat more, but you'll need to increase muscle mass slowly and surely. So lift heavy stuff and eat lots in the above ratios.

Alot of great info so far guys. Thanks g'em and daveirl.

    Just a few more now...

What happens to excess carbohydrates? Do they turn into fat?

What will happen to the protein if I do not exercise? If there is no muscle to repair are they just disposed of or can they turn into fat also?

pretty much i.e. primarily excreted but if there's a great excess converted to fat

    you're learning!!

Probably because I don't understand fats.

I can understand protein repairs and creates muscle but is used for energy (cals) first if there aren't enough carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates create energy (cals) and excess becomes fat.

Am I correct on the above?

But fats....I just haven't got the chance to read into them yet.

I made a mistake on the above. It actually says (on the about.com website) to achieve 196lb id need 180grms protein, 327 grms of carb and 86.5 grms of fats.

g'em: Im a little confused here, you say above without lifting id only need about 70grms of protein every day and if lifting 90-130., then you say after that I should lower my carbs and UP my protein, but my protein is 150 on the top post which would be too much already?? Can you clarify what you mean?

G'em is saying you NEED that much protein, that doesnt mean it is optimal. You NEED about 10mg of vitamin C per day to keep scurvy away, but most vitamin C daily tablets are 100-2000mg of vitamin C.

I am about 75kg and aim for about 250g of protein per day (usually end up with less though)
