Ok I have no tattoos at all and have been seriously thinking about getting one the last couple of months... Well im going to America this coming Thursday and im seriously thinking about getting it done before I come back!

    Heres my idea:

    tattooidea123az4.jpg

and heres my "attempt" at making it look real on my wrist.. (I know if I get it done it will look a million times different)

    tattooidea2copypw3.jpg

    Any opinions on it!?
How much would I be looking at to pay?
My cousin has a few tattoos and he says it hurts the most there!?
Also how would I go about printing it around that size(a bit smaller) Ive tried and its coming out too big!

If you dont like it dont tell me you dont... I dont care cause like it means something to me! People have been telling me its something a child would do! I dont think it is!

With the writing that small, its most likely going to blur a few years down the line.
You ask for opinions, yet you tell people not to say they don't like it? Odd.
As I'm sure everyone will say, take it to an artist and let them work with the idea. Since your going to get it done in America you will want to pick a good artist and do research, ask to see his portfolio and all that jazz.
Yes it hurts on the wrist because all the veins, tendons (not sure about tendons?) and stuff that's there, but all tattoos hurt, that's just the way it is.

Yeh the detail on it will smudge very quickly, i wouldnt suggest going for something like that. You should try and come up with something a little more defined.

i really like the idea of it!! but maybe the writing would be better left out, cos it looks like it'd be quite small...just bring it in to any good artist and talk it over with them and they'll help you out with it

Yea ive been looking up tattoo places in Florida(two that are near my hotel) and will go there the 1st or 2nd day I get there and see what happens from there.. I really want the writing though! To me its like the main part of it! :D

Also any ideas on how much it would cost.. dollars wise? It would be smaller than in the picture anyway!

If it's gonna be smaller then in the picture then I'd definitly say forget the writing, as it is there it would already be hard enough to maintain and not have in smudge over the years...IMO keep it the size you have it in the picture...
Most shops have a minimum price for tattooing. I think over here it's generally between 60-80 euro. I reckon you'd be spending about that on it, I don't know what that is in dollars or how they work over there. Only one way to find out really :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

Yea.. Ive been checking up and the least most places will charge for one is €50

Hmm yea I was thinking about it today actually about the whole writing and it getting smudged! I think just having the skateboard there would mean enough to me.. and I could always add to it if I felt I needed it!

Well once I go over I will find out about it!

And if I get it done I will post a picture up! :D

It doesn't hurt on the wrist! Sorest place I've had ink is on my hand in between my thumb and index finger. And that wasn't even that sore. bet the ribs hurt tho. Can't WAIT for that... (I'm weird. I like pain...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

I have a few drawings printed out here.. Im guessing its a good idea to bring them all.. Instead of the just the one I really want!? So like the guy knows the kinda idea im going and not just look at one picture?

If the artist doesn't try to talk you around to having that example you have redrawn, then I'd go to another studio.
An artist could make a much better job of your basic idea if you let them. But then in a few years when it's all smudged and you dont skateboard anymore you could tell people it says "I love sausages" if the wheels are smudged enough you'll pull it off.

No offense Darren, but when I first started scrolling down the screen, I thought I had clicked on the Prince Albert thread...

Put your hand over the bottom part of the board...

maybe cos the chip on the deck at the top resembles it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Ah it's not just the chip at the top, it's just a very phallic shape!

Even the wheel dosn't save it (Frankencock).

You better start liking em, you're gonna be looking at one on your wrist for the rest of your life.

EDIT: On a serious note, if I was wanting something like that, I'd get a slightly bigger skateboard with more detail to it and a nicer font.

I'm sorry to be the first to go against the grain but seriously I think that tattoo would be crap
my suggestion would be ditch the text and if you insist on getting it on your wrist go with some symbol associated with your passion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

Nah.. The only symbol I could use would be a skate logo and im not doing that!

I have the appointment booked and im getting it done next thursday.. (not tomoro) :D

why dont you just get it done in waterford?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

    3 reasons..

    Cause im mad..

I only decided to get it after I changed all the money I had to dollars

and its cheaper here.. Im getting it done for 90 dollars which is roughly 60 - 70 euro.. I doubt I would get it done fo that cheap back home

There's an old saying, "Good tattoos aren't cheap, and cheap tattoos aren't good.", but then that doesn't bother you.

    Thats a good saying!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

Yes.. I heard that before but how much would you expect to pay for something about 10cms by 5cms? even smaller than that!

It's more of a time thing than a fixed price, how much time would it take to do?
If it's done well then an hour to an hour and a half, I'm sure it could be rushed and done faster. Anywhere from 90-150 I'd say. Prices in the US are about the same for tattoos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

Now I got it done last night and it only took 25minutes!

    What you thinks? lol

I really like the idea of it and your reason for getting it... but the tattoo itself is quite crap. The lines suck and it's the kind of tattoo that just doesn't work without some colour.

You really should have got it done somewhere that you knew they would make your vision work on your skin because it looks like whoever did that really didn't care. ;)

    Hi Deafvision,

I think the Tat looks good! But at the end of the day it's your Tat and if you like it that's all that matters.

I've been thinking about this since you first posted OP and while I originally couldn't quite grasp the concept I can now imagine where you were coming from. Unfortunately I think the idea has been poorly executed. However at the end of the day it's your tattoo, it's your body and it's only your opinion that matters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Looks like it was done with an ink stamp, seriously. That is not quality work. Your call as to the tattoo itself, not trying to demean that, but placement and execution leave a lot to be desired. You should have gone somewhere that wouldn't do it in 25 minutes to be honest.

That thing is on your wrist for the rest of your life?

Besides the fact that you will probably grow out of skateboarding when you hit 14 years old, artistically that is a disaster!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

Im 18 years old.. Ive been skating 5 years now.. hence I got it.. because if I ever do have to stop it.. it will be there as a reminder as to who I was at that part of my life(growing up)

Heres the original picture from where I got it from btw...

To be honest I don't think it's great. But i'd have to see it in real life to be able to judge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

I can see alot of people dont like the "look" of the tattoo but some people do like the idea behind it... To me it was mainly the idea.. but I also think it looks good... just the scabbing aint nice now... lol!

Thanks anyway for all the replies and the honesty!

I shall post another picture when its fully healed!

well depending on the artist.. sammy is ok but a bit slow and 80 - 90 euro per hr
dan is savage.. fast but also expensive..
jmd's are savage as well but they have no time for the customer, they try tattoo as many people as possible in my opinion to get the money in...

there are 2 or 3 other tattooists in waterford, i personally wouldnt go near celtic body art.
    theres me..
theres a french guy called ben.

    Rule 2.
No slagging off peoples tattoos/piercings.Tats and piercings are a matter of peoples personal preferences---so what if you dont like it
the person who paid good money for it does(and it probably has a certain meaning for them)---and thats all that matters. So any more "thats a knacker tattoo" etc and you will be banned.
