It's region protected (according to Play Asia) and I ain't paying 70 sods for it. Anyone got any good cheap Eurocentric sites?

The US version is showing on PlayAsia as not working for PAL but being OK for both NTSC regions, but the Japanese version they still don't seem to sure about though.

I'm not buying it online because it'll take too long to get here, but CDWOW is probably cheapest.

I'll be getting in Smyths (10% off with their free card) because I'm an impatient little bunny

It is confirmed NOT to be region free from any region.

I pre-ordered from play.com, bout 58 notes in the end, decided to pick up Condemned too, tis 26.... 84 quid for 2 games that GAME or HMV would break 100 for... Me=Happy:p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Smellyirishman

It's still 84 quid though, and one of the games is almost a year old.

DR will be one game I will be splashning out the €70 on.

If your willing to spend 70 quid on DR then how does 26 euro for Condemned make you angry. It's the cheapest you'll find a factory sealed 360 game anywhere as far as I know.

More to the point if you bought off of play.com, then Condemned is 14 euro more than what you were originally happy to pay for DR. Thats just a little bit more expensive than Bankshot Billiards.

I fail to see how this makes you mad?!

    Anywhere doing good trade-in deals?
Have Gun (NTSC though), FIFA RTWC to trade, and maybe NFS:MW if I can get it finished in time (nearly there).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,896 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

if I choose to get it, which is looking unlikely, i think ill choose GAME. why? 30% discount is a dream:D

Xtravision offer the best trade deals, that I know of.

Is that with an employee discount or something else?

I am willing, I am not happy about it. I am angry about the fact that two games cost €84 , one of which is a year old ,and that is seen as a great deal. Yes, it is a good deal when you consider you could pay €140 for two new games, however, I am angry at the price of console games, not your particular purchase. Hell, I could buy two new PC games for <€84.

Just having a good ol' price rant, no need to get so defensive, you swear the guys were doing you a favour having such high prices! I mean, just look at evad's discount, 30 flippin' percent and they are still making a profit on that. (At least I would assume they are)

Huh? I have a few ideas about what you're trying to say here, but not entirly sure. Condemned is not 14 euro more than what I was originally happy to pay for DR, that would make it €84. Are you trying to suggest that I could get condemned for only €14 extra or something (I know I can't, but is that what you're suggesting?...)

I was in Virgin Megastore in Dundalk today and if you pre-order it there you get a rather cool. DR faceplate with it. Not sure how much it is though.. I'''ll find out tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭Furp

I saw that myself in Virgin in Liffey Valley, the face plate looks cool and I was really tempted, just don't have the money at the moment, I really want this game.

They also have limited edition Steel Box edition anyone any ideas of what is in this. I can't seem to find any into on the web to what is actually in the limited edition box.

I think he's saying that if you spend 14 more euro (on top of the 70 you're willing to spend for DR) you'll have 2 games from play.com

I would much prefer to buy my games in a store but they are robbing c.u.n.t.s so i buy em online whenever i can

To whoever was asking about trade in deals:

In gamestop, if you trade in any two 360 games, you get a new one for a euro. If you dont have anything you want to trade in, go in and pick up kameo and table tennis for a total of 59 euro and trade them in for a new game.

On a side note, Dead Rising is going to be in very short supply everywhere for about 2 weeks.

Would shops accept games from Playasia?
They work fine but the ones I have say NTSC, not PAL.

Would Irish shops have a problem accepting these? I think I saw a post about this a few weeks ago but couldn't find it.

They'll take it if they don't notice the region message on the back. If the box is in English they might not see it. If the box has Asian text for instance, that'll tip them off heh, doubt they'd take it then. Heard a few stories from people with success, others were told they couldn't take them.

Just picked up the steel box version in Game in Henry St.. €75, traded in Fight Night & Top Spin Tennis so only cost a fiver..

€75-one of the few games i'd buy at launch and at full retail price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

He's right, it's out in Game and Virgin anyway, dunno bout Smyths but I doubt very much they'll turn you down given the other stores are selling them.

Limited edition and normal seem to be the same price here (people in the UK said there was a price difference before, we got lucky?).

    /paws copy on her desk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,204 ✭✭✭kensutz

If anyone gets a copy from Smyths today can they let me know asap. They rang one of the Dublin stores from here in Waterford to ask if they were selling it and they said "not until tomorrow" so if one Smyths store does sell I can get my reserved copy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 XboxShop

Yup The Xbox Live Gaming Centre has it for sale. Its 74.99 for non-members 71.99 for members, if you're not a member all you have to do is give us your details and we'll sign you up for free. Also if you come down to official launch of the game tonight between 10 and 12 the shop you can try it out for an hour for free if you're going to buy it.

Cheers Smellyirishman popped into my local Game Stop and picked up Dead Rising for €64.99, and I also traded in two games and got Saints row for €1, even though its marked as €74.99

It's not on their site, so they won't have it. They only sell a small ish selection. They do have Saints Row pretty cheap though. They'll have Splinter Cell cheap aswell (€60 IIRC).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,267 ✭✭✭mcgovern

Anyone know if ExtraVision have it?
Its the only gameshop near me and I want to get a decent trade in so won't got to GAME.

I got my limited edition copy in Gamestop today for 64.99.

Worst save system in a game ever.
Traded in NFS:MW and FIFA RTWC for it, so can't complain too much, but it is amazingly annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Did you get a straight up trade on those two games? If so where?

Personally, I think the save system makes the game much more than it would have been otherwise. It's not like it's overly hard to find a save spot and allowing infinite saves would ruin the game entirly. It adds a "survival" feeling which the game desperatly needs.

I had read about the system before hand though so was prepared for it anyway.

Finishing a case only to realise that you took too long and can't play the next one meaning the game is over is not fun. Especially when often your only option is to re-start the game from the beginning.
Or having to make the trek from one side of the mall to the other 10 times until you figure out how to beat a boss.

Yep, happened to me, enjoyed it much more the second time through (granted at first I thought "Aw, WTF?") and it's easy (and fast) to get back to where you were. There is a nice little bar on your right showing you how much time you have, it's part of the game to pay attention to it.
    mcgovern wrote:

There are toilets in almost every section and even a shorcut from Paradise Plaza to Wonderland Plaza, it's not that big of a trek between any parts of the mall or to any of the bosses. It's also much friendlier when you have level 2 or 3 speed.

Maybe one save is harse, but I can see why they did it and I really don't think it's that big an issue, IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

I remember when a saved game was just leaving my console on with a sign saying 'DO NOT TOUCH!' on it....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Save wasn't a problem, and I think some people are making too big a deal out of it. When I wanted to play it properly, and finish with a real ending, I played to do the cases, I focused on when the cases were starting (it tells you! It's not like you can't plan in advance, the case list shows exactly when the next ones start).

So I'd make sure I do the cases in time, and that I'm back in the security room when the next starts, at the given time. When I had extra time, I did side missions and rescued people. I didn't get to all the psychos, but that's what a second play through is for.

I did have a memory unit too, so I made earlier backup saves there in case things went wrong, but I didn't actually have to use it.

Finished with an A ending and finished Overtime. Looking forward to playing around in Infinity mode some weekend, will go for the 7 days survived at some point. And zombie genocider :)

    Signed.

It has not been bad so far with the european release (maybe people were prepared for it) but after the american release people just would not shut up about it. Definitly going to enjoy working my way towards zombie genocider. Quality game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Me too. I've got the megaman boots, doing zombie genocider now (saved, about 25k zombies killed), megaman suit shouldn't be a problem (10 psychopath kills so go for all the bosses like Adam the Clown) and the helmet is in the cinema shop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Smellyirishman

For the 10 psychopaths does killing all 3 convicts, the three times they spawn, count as 9? Although they can be a pain, it would be a bit easy if you could do it that way (Although it's probably 10 unique kills?). Some of the psychopaths are great, the clown and supermarket keeper are fairly handy along with the 3 snipers, although I found Whats-her-face on the motorbike a right pain in the hole along with your man in the gun store and the convicts make me angry when I just want to get through the park!

I have yet to get through the game entirly though, had to start again after I delivered the medicine about 20 hours too late (what can I say, I found the blade shop and got carried away, then once I got my hands on a shotgun....perfection) then was out for the whole of Sunday. I heard the Megaman gun is quite a pleasure.

What level are you up to now koneko, I am around 23 I think, finally got some decent melee moves.

Em, for those not playing at home, go get the game already!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

lvl 47 now I think, nearly maxed out. Got the disembowling move, veeery nice.

Not sure if the 10 psychopaths would include the convicts, I would guess it does. They're easy once you realise they crash into trees. Bring the SMG and just shoot out the gunner, then the other two. Remember to destroy the jeep too otherwise the convicts respawn. I drove it around for a while smashing zombies, crashing it into walls, until it broke.

I think Adam was my favourite psychopath, very disturbing bit altogether and his death was funny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,475 ✭✭✭corblimey

Well, I got mine in GS on Friday - I only popped in on the half chance, and seeing it there convinced me to buy it. The bloke behind the counter told me some crowd in Dublin had broken the street date and he was ordered to put it on the shelves. Anyone hear anything about this?

Lovin' the game, but I've returned to Saints Row after a few games, mostly 'cos popping a cap in some guy's ass is slightly more satisfying that lawn mowing a buncha dumb zombies. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Smellyirishman

Going off topic perhaps? Oh well. Yeah, I usually just pop the machine gunners and let them drive into a tree as I go about my zombie slaying/survivor saving. I did not realise they would not respawn if I total the jeep, must try that when I get home.

Adam was hilarious alright, very disturbing! Surprised Jack Thompson is not all over this game. The shopkeeper cracked me up though, "Clean up, checkout 7"

It's not too hard to level alright, a few survivors and you can do 2-4 levels in one drop-off. The zombie pick-up and double lariet (sp?) are decent enough for now, I want the face plant and disembowel though!

Did I mention that the shotgun is pure sex!

corbimey - think Game were the ones to break the date, check page 2 of this thread I think.
