I suggest that fitness in general, despite its undeniable positive effects and its clean-living reputation, has the possibility of offering for our delectation some truly disgusting experiences. Surely exercise with its less-discussed bed-fellows (sweat, B.O., athletes foot, manky laundry etc) has thrown some rank, stomach-churning, face-distorting moments your way. Here's my most recent ... I went on a few days holiday last week but as I'm training for the Dublin City Marathon I threw the gear in the car. I also threw my drink shaker and some carbs and whey protein supplements. Although I went to the gym four times in the week I only used the shaker once after a weight session ... it then remained unwashed in the boot of my car until my return. I think it's fair to say that protein's close connection to meat was well attested to when I opened the shaker on my return. Rank city! Four boilings later and I'm still not sure it's reusable.

Would you like to share your disgusting fitness-related experiences?

At the Belfast marathon a woman crossed the line just after me and proceeded to throw up all over my shoes.....and I was so tired I couldn't move.

I did that with a sports bottle I had protein shake in once too. Several washes later in boiling water, it still had to go in the bin...

Other then that, nothing too bad!

During a basketball All-Ireland semi/final, I had to ask for subs so I could to go take a dump........I'm pretty sure I was touching cloth!!!!!!! :p

Had you actually been spectating it would've been funny because I just ran straight off the court past our bench and out into the foyet, classic stuff altogether!!!!

A guy I trained with years ago shat himself while squatting.

He could be forgiven because he was squatting 600lbs+ , I can remember exactly how much.

Once while about to climb into a swimming pool, (so therefore barefoot) I felt something squelchy between my toes, and looked down to see the biggest lump of phlegm I'd ever seen. Vile.

A friend told me a good one some time back. He was training for a marathon and went out on his usual mid-week run though felt he was feeling a bit tummy-ish before the off. One mile in he realised the run was about to become the runs! He then described how he almost got muscle cramp in his arse trying to keep his buttocks together as he scampered panic-stricken back home looking for all intents and purposes like a camp speed walker. He said it was an endurance test like no other, with the possibility of your public reputation only (literally) a crack away from being ruined. He says he almost broke the front door as he burst into his house ... his wife only got to say "why are you back so..." before being shoved aside as he made a desperate, open-eyed bolt for the downstairs loo. The ensuing explosion covered his shuddering cries of relief!! If you knew the guy the visuals this story conjures up are forever funny and disgusting in equal measure.

I have been on many boards for many years, and no comment has made me laugh quite so much.
