because i think i said id ban anyone who starts sticking up their myspace or bebo page on the AH forum, and that all such threads should be moved to TCN at amps request.

although. i doesn't seem like a bad idea. it might save us from another 37 threads about myspace.

I stickied it. My thoughts are, one post per user, no chat, just a link to their page and that's it. Similar rules to the KYN thread. If you guys disagree, by all means unstick and move it elsewhere. I would have replied right away but I'm enroute to Dublin for the beers.

You know, I had read the charter just before posting this incase of any such rules against myspace links, and I couldn't find anything. Besides, I agree wholeheartedly with Julep, this could indeed save a lot of excess threads.

Actually, thinking of it now, perhaps I'll rename it to include Bebo links, and kill two birds with one stone, eh?

also, linking to your page twice (or someone elses page) to get away with chatting will result in a ban.

and yes, we did have a spate of bebo and myspace posts at one point, until i moved them all to TCN, and then they stopped. good thing too.
the voyuerism of looking at someones page pretneding to be something they are not is far too soul destroying for anyone to have to go through.

ok, so i decided to split and unstick this part of Karls thread, as i have my own opinions on the rediculousness of the whole thing.

however, my views are not the point here, and previously, these threads went to TCN to live die or do whatever it is they do.

however, if people want a page to put up their page to increase their social butterfly standing, then so be it.

anyway, if we have a number of these, i will look to create a sub forum, where we can put a somewhat static number of threads, such as bebo\myspace and the KYNs thread and youtube etc etc etc where people can just add to it as they see fit.

let me know if you think that would eba good idea.

I'll agree with WWM here. These sites are just another step in the divorce between people's real lives and the funky and fake internet persona they so desperately want to achieve.

But then again I'm one of those that thinks that The Cuckoo's Nest is starting to take over boards and I'm becoming bitter and twisted.

Yeah that sounds good Eamo. I've always thought there should be some other forum for the likes of youtube. Compiling bebo, myspace and youtube into one sub forum would be good if there is a need for it. When I'm using boards from work I can't check youtube links for malicious content because youtube is blocked. Tbh, the youtube links in AH kind of do my head in anyway. Youtube was created for people who are too lazy to read.

Anywho, as for discussion, well I just don't really agree with your grievances with said sites. Personally, since using MySpace, I find it's pretty much like any other means of socialising on the internet, and I've actually caught up with friends I've not spoken to in ages, aswell as asked to join bands (3 at last count!) and it's also a handy place to upload pics and music, aswell as have a blog. Catch-all really.

Your objections to people's projected image, well that goes for message boards aswell, doesn't it?

I just don't see a point in creating a forum for something that would be entirely self-contained in 1 single thread. A forum that most people probably will ignore and post in AH anyway, thus adding annoyance to the mods.

I had a great one. it was called the drum machine (here). It would play automatically, but it was a thrill to watch it. I hate those ones which have just annoying songs. They might be funny the first time you've seen it, but after the hundreth time, you want to try and screw out your eyeballs with your mouse. Which is a bloody hard thing to do, I'll tell you what.

More effort and annoyance than it's worth maybe? I remember when Film Reviews was a sub-forum of Films, rather than current section, simply no amount of moves, threats of bannings, stickies would stop the sheer amount of dullards who'd post off-topic in there.

No it is not. I do believe that I stated how a video can be related to any topic. I could be wrong though.

Anyway, incase it's unclear: A video can be related to any topic, and as such can be related to any forum on boards. Visit any of the music forums, and you're bound to find youtube links, trailers on the Film forum, and so forth.

That's where they belong, in the relevant forums, not in an arbitrary forum that would cram all such videos together, and out of context, just because a youtube link in AH irks you for some reason. Take a video from the Film Production forum, and transplant it to this proposed video forum, it loses whatever relevance it has to that particular topic. Likewise any other video from any other forum on boards.

It's as ridiculous as having a dedicated forum for images that's the only place on boards you can post a pic.

Aswell as that, there's also the worrying idea of trying to fix a preceived problem by adding more forums. That alone is worthy of objection.
